Antonio Talks Transportation

trainMayor-Elect Antonio is making some moves in the area of transportation that send bold signals as to how he intends to lead as Mayor.

First off, Antonio plans to attack a long lingering issue of replacing traffic lights in the city. Currently, many of which use old, incandescent lamps with lights that work on energy saving and longer lasting LED lights. As well he has proposed that the new lights not be installed by city, union workers but outsourced to a private firm with expertise in the area that could get the job done far faster and cheaper. This move even earned Antonio kudos from the Daily News.

Secondly, Antonio has decided he will assume the Chairmanship of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board when he becomes Mayor. This is something that Mayor Hahn chose not to do, but former Mayor Richard Riordan did opt for. Given Antonio's bold agenda for public transportation, its not unexpected he would take this move.

What's MEAV going to do about MTA CEO Snoble's contract? Have any names surfaced yet as possible successors?

...was it just me, or did I see FTA's western region mucky-muck Leslie Rogers at Antonio's victory party? Was the new mayor off to an early start chasing fed money for the subway? Was the FTA making friendly overtures? Is a deal on new fed cash imminent?

Antonio has FAR more national connetions than Mayor Poopy could have ever dreamed of.

It would be nice to have Antonio show up that fat slob Zev with the cash needed to finally upgrade the rail system in LA and stop playing with Zev's stupid rapid buses and busways.

Zev is an idiot. I hope AV can wrestle that money out of the feds, talk some sense to the Board of Sups & while hes at it, knocks the heads of Pasadena, and pressure the feds to complete the 710. I know these county issues, but maybe AV can get the exposure that his region is hurting transportation-wise and we are tired of being a donor state to the rest of the country & seeing our money going elsewhere!

The traffic light bulbs are 60 watt AC, the new and 1000 times more expensive LED versions are DC-which require new computer controls and power supplies to be replaced at thousands of intersections.
The energy $avings payback time could be in decades.
Cities that have upgraded did so while istalling improvements like left-turn pockets, which calls for repaving; allpoliticsislocal, where does the money to do all this rewiring of the City come from? Steve Lee.

I just wish Antonio would start with his promises and get those police officers he said he would once he got in. With those lame supervisors and DWP asking for more taxes I can't see where he's going to get the money. People will not vote for another tax.

Smart move for Antonio, I hope he's successful at this. Yeah, Zev is an idiot. I really can't stand him. He's the one who allowed the continued development of the Wilshire Corridor in Westwood but is opposed to have a subway there(which would be the only way to handle all of the extra traffic, these rapid buses are stupid). I'm a hardcore liberal but I am not a fan of big labor so kudos to Antonio for considering a private company to complete this work on the traffic lights.
