Its official, City Councilman Martin Ludlow will give up his seat to take over from the late Miguel Contreras as head of the LA County Federation of Labor.Word is that both Senator Kevin Murray and former Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson are looking into running to replace Ludlow.
Doesn't Kevin Murray live in West Hollywood? Or has he finally moved into his district?
In other news, LA Observed is reporting that Mayor-Elect Antonio Villaraigosa is seeking an opinion from the City Attorney as to whether or not he can hold off on his resignation from the City Council (prior to assuming the duties of Mayor) so that he can vote to re-elect Alex Padilla as the Council President.
Do these people really give a shit about any of us?

Have AV resign and take his oath of office @ 12 noon on July 1.
As the first order of business on July 1 in Council @ 9am they can call for the vote. AV would still be a member until noon and be eligible to vote.

Otherwise, wait until December, file for Assembly 45 and say laters to the whole bunch.
Of course there is always option 3 - wait and see what happens in either of the two Special Elections and take the vote after the two new CM's are in.
In any case, June should produce a new Council President.

Padilla has proven to be a worthless president. I can only imagine the nightmare of who he will decide will be on the various committees. Since Cindy will be gone LAPD would cringe if Padilla gives chair of public safety to Parks.
Padilla can't even control chambers. Do they have to be sued again and embarrass the city because they're never in their seats on time, waste time on presentations, discuss crap that isn't important to their constituents. Garcetti would be a much stronger and better president.
