The other 06 races

Besides the two special elections that will occur this year.

There is a slew of local activity going on already for the June 06 races.

AD 45

Currenntly held by Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg, because of term limits she will vacating this seat.

As far as i know the competition to replace her is fierce -- Elena Popp, Kevin De Leon and Christine Chavez are in the hunt. I personally like Elena Popp, but I can see Christine Chavez doing a decent job as well. The machine is behind Kevin.

AD 44

Currently held by Assemblywoman Carol Liu. There are two folks running for that seat, the mayor of La Canada Flintridge Anthony Portantino and Adam Murray. My money is on Adam Murray taking the seat, bit not without a tough fight.

Prove me wrong!

What does Jackie Goldberg plan to do after she's termed out?

Brian Center is running in the 44th, too. His profile looks a lot like Schiff's and he has worked for Molina and Baca. If they get behind him and raise some money, there's no reason he can't do some damage.

Christopher Arellano is also running for AD45. Active in Stonewall Dems, used to work for Eric Garcetti, now at UTLA.

Kevin Deleon is going to have money to burn. But does anyone actually like him?

Who the heck is Adam Murray and has he ever held office?

Kevin Deleon is a slam dunk in the 45th. He will have $400k in the next report.

But Adam who? Give me a break. Never heard of him, never seen him, never going to win. Anthony and Diane Peterson Moore duke it out and Anthony wins. He has all the establishment behind him and I don't see him pulling another Andre Cherny(blowing it when you should have won).

I know Adam. He's smart, articulate and extremely liberal, probably too much so for that district. And, probably too smart to be an elected official.

For CHRIST's sake...this is why we need reapportionment reform! So we can elect some freakin' business people to the legislature for a change. Nothing but staffers for electeds and union leaders here.

Hello - Boyds - wake the F up! Get the Republican Party going again and stop using it to pay for your chablis parties!

SD 30 will be an exciting election as well...3 Latino candidates that can raise a ton of money and have the name recognition. Thus far, I would say Firebaugh has the most name recognition and has the support of the incumbent.

Give me a break last poster:

Yes SD 30 is going to be a bruiser, but Firebaugh doesn't stand a chance.

The name of the game is what have you done for me lately and Firebaugh has not done shit for anyone for about four years now. It's unfortunate that his health did not help him out his last two years in the Asm, but that is what he left as his legacy. Besides, the only portion of SD 30 that he represented, assuming they all vote his way, would give him 1200 votes from Commerce and 900 from ELA.

No, the real money is on the guys in house right now. Bermudez currently only represents two whole cities in that SD – SFS and Norwalk. He was not that well liked when he was on school board and even less when he was on the council. Believe me; they were happy to get rid of that closeted fool. His district fundraising has almost come entirely from the Indian community of Artesia, which is no where near the district. CCPOA has been embarrassed by him for bring so much media attention because if his pandering to law enforcement bills. Novey still calls a lot of the shots and has never liked Rudy. Rudy has no name ID in Montebello - the heart of that SD.

Calderon has the name ID that goes along with 30 years of his family's public service. Whatever you may think of the family, 30 years of name ID is not something to dismiss. Add to that his support from the Senate Pro Temp and you have a virtual lock on 3rd house. Ron comes in with at least 40% of the vote in the primary - in a 3-way race this thing is over.

Firebaugh should worry more about his health and figuring out how to pay his child support and feed his daughter than about trying to relive some glory days in Sacto. After staring into the eyes of death, I thought he would have learned his lesson. I guess some people will never learn.

Calderon's name ID is suppose to be intimidating? Gary Condit has a lot of name ID too.

It's funny how you start off by stating "what have you done for me lately", but when you talk about the calderons, all you mention is the 30 year name recognition...that's because in the 30 years not one calderon has done shit...not chuck, tom or ron.

Does Escutia's endorsement mean anything to you?

Yeah but Condit couldn't raise the $$$ that Calderon will and what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

Bermudez: You’re supposed to be able to take their money and still be able to vote against them: http://www.prisonactivist.org/pipermail/prisonact-list/2004-May/008965.html

Firebaugh: do you really want your arrest records and child support missed payments made public?

No Martha's endorsement does not mean anything. About as meaningful as Grace's = 0.

At least Grace had a tough primary win. Martha has never really been tested and therefore, never been a good fundraiser. It she had, then she would have been able to help more of her Senate colleagues and would now be Pro Temp.

When Grace decides to stop selling jewelry from her office and being Luigi Vernola's money whore, than maybe people will start respecting her a little bit more.

With the exception of Hilda and Lee, no endorsement has enough coattails to help anyone in this race. Ron is the only one that can raise the 500K+ needed to win this thing.

And if 30 years of service means nothing, then why have they continued to get elected? The Calderon's have been able to take care of their constituent case load well enough to the point that the people remember their assistance and thank them with their vote. In the end, it's all about taking care of your local constituents and no one else has that long of a constituent case history.

Gov. Pico,

The Calderons remind me of that Eddie Murphy movie - no, not Dr. Do-Little (for their costituents), but The Distinguished Gentleman...when EM uses his recognizable name to get elected to Congress. That's the Calderons - The name is recognizable, but not respected. You can't be serious to think that Ron "Mr. Phillip Morris/Altria" Calderon is the best candidate for the 30SD!

Firebaugh has a HS named after him...the only thing RC can possibly have is a cigarette flavored after him.

Forget about Marco Firebaughs arrest records and lack of child support, the idiot had to nerve to attend an event at a LA County Fed/UNITE HERE Local 11 boycoted hotel last Friday. Didn't think people would find out Marco? Put a fork in him, he's done

Adam Murray is definitely the one to watch in the 44th. He is very smart and that will play well with this district. I've just seen his website and it is worth checking out: www.murray2006.com

Rosario Marin will get in the SD-30 race as well. Tough primary and even tougher general for Calderon. Firebaugh's health is a liability to some of the players like the Firefighter's union.

Rosario Marin!? The 30th SD is more than a 2 to 1 Dem to Rep...Nice try Reps, but you should have kept her in DC.
