Jim Hahn's Florida Friends
We've heard a lot of screaming and yelling about Tony Villar taking dough from folks in Florida, but Jim Hahn too is a big fan of money from the Sunshine State. According to the LA Ethics Commission, Mayor Poopy has taken in over $30 grand in contributions from Florida unions, developers and folks who could have an interest in doing business at LAX.

Some highlights:
I'm not sure what these folks in Florida want from Jim Hahn, but maybe they heard about our $11 billion airport?
- $1000 each from William Bodenhammer and his wife Linda of Lighthouse Point, Florida. USA Parking, operates airport parking lots.
- $1000 from Luis Agosto Rocha of Surfside, Florida, an executive of the Brazilian based Odebrecht public works contracting firm.
- Edward Wilcox of Weston, Jeff Yablum of Tampa and John McCarthy of Ocala - all of HMS Host operators of airport concessions, to the tune of $1750.00
- William S. Hart - not the silent film star - but an executive with Clear Channel Airports - brokers of advertising in airports across the country. $500.
- PBSJ Citizens and Taxpayers PAC of Miami - whatever the hell that is - for $1000.
- And for those who complained about the union electricians in Washington D.C. (probably not the local but the national organization) donating to Tony Villar of Los Angeles, don't worry - the South Florida Carpenters of Fort Lauderdale and Carpenters Active Politically of Tampa each kicked in a grand. Maybe they want to bid on LAX too.

You forgot to mention Mayor Sam, those giving to Hahn actually knew they were giving to Hahn. Tony can't make that claim, that's why he gave the money back. Funny, he never gave Vignali's money back. As soon as the money was sent back, a perception of guilt descended like a black cloud on Tony's campaign. Remember, in politics, it's all about perception. Isn'tit ironic that Tony's campaign strategy for his last three contested campaigns has come back to bite him in the ass. Karma's gonna get ya!

A grand here and and a grand there compared to an orchestrated scam involving dozens of manipulated workers at a wannabe contractor's business?
THE WEEK BEFORE ADV TRIES TO CUT THE LEGS OUT FROM UNDER THEIR COMPETITOR IN OPEN CITY COUNCIL SESSION.
Boy are you gents shooting blanks!

Calling Villaraigsa a bigger whore than Hahn ('cause he got $40,000 in legalized bribes, compared to Hahn's $30,000) is missing the point. At the end of the day, they're both giant whores!
It's long, LONG past time to introduce voluntary public financing in Los Angeles. No, not the current, flawed matching-funds thing. I mean full-on "Clean Elections" (like they've instituted in Arizona and Maine).
If our leaders are gonna be owned by someone, it may as well be us.

We don't need the government paying for campaigns - that's just wrong.
We just need to reduce the reach of government so that business and others have less of an interest in trying to influence.

This poor excuse for a back-at-you post went nowhere. What's next, Hahn's Des Moines connection.
HA!

Don't follow the "money" -- follow ADV's VOTING RECORD. That's HIS "play" and it was SO stupidly obvious!!!

Yeah, but how do you "reduce the reach" of government in this case? Merchants and contractors all vying for contracts in a government-owned airport? The city government HAS to choose someone to provide those services.
So who should the government choose?
A) The contractor who bought the most influence in city hall with his/her campaign contributions? Or... B) The contractor who'll do the best job, in the most socially and environmentally responsible fashion, at the best available rate for the city?
Right now, with our current pay-for-play system, we're getting "A" every time. The only way to get "B" is to change the system and go with Clean Elections, as in Arizona and Maine.

If I was handling the Hahn campaign I would make the following commercial with these scenes:
Scene 1: Very hardcore looking, multiple tattooed gang members harassing a family in the park. The police show up to try and do something to protect the family only to be stopped by AV who shows up in time to protect the gang members.
Scene 2: A sleazy, unshaven old man is observing some kids playing on the swings in the park. He pulls out a handful of candy and heads over to the kids. Next you see him walking away holding a little girls hand as she licks a candy sucker. A close up of the man's shirt reveals a button that reads "Vote For Antonio V. for mayor".
Scene 3: Group of L.A.P.D. uniformed officers are with Antonio shooting an endorsement commercial. The director yells, cut! That's a wrap! As the officers walk away the camera zooms in on the back of the officers collars to reveal "Acme Costume Rentals" as these are not real L.A.P.D. officers but non-union actors.
Cut to Mayor Hahn shooting his commercial with the real L.A.P.D. officers endorsing him.
These three commercial scenes will have a tremendous impact. The commercials about Antonio taking Miami money are burnt out and nobody cares anymore. The voters know ALL politicians take questionable campaign contributions and only give it back when they are caught like AV just did. I suggest the Hahn campaign concentrate on getting some new
hard hitting commercials that will resonate with the
undecideds otherwise he and all on his staff are going to be looking for work come next Wednesday morning
