Not LA!

stem cellThe task force charged with picking the location for the state's new multi-billion dollar stem cell research institute is likely going with a San Francisco location, sources are saying.

As you may remember - as we reported here - Los Angeles was aced out of this plum because of bungling by the Hahn administration.

And you want to re-elect this clown? How do you let a wacked out, less than a million population burg catch this tremendous opportunity over the second largest city in the nation?

You spell it H-A-H-N.

Renata, you have helped cost Jimmy his election.

But, don't feel bad. Even though you cost us FOUR BILLION DOLLARS in jobs, you still have "Deputy Mayor" on your resume, and some unsuspecting company will hire you.

Make sure you tell them the truth, because this one ain't going away, ever.

However, look at it this way; you helped elect a good Mayor who can turn this city around and start he work that will put cranes and workers back to work on contruction, an industry that is on life support in Los Angeles thanks to Jimmy and his failed leadership.

Look at yourself as a Villaraigosa campaign volunteer.

Ain't it cool?

He BRAGGED about helping save it as a park while in Assembly (although he had little to do with it);

He BRAGGED about great plans to add schools by parks, just like was outlined there;

Maniac Murelo was NOT giving money to CD1 or CD13 candidates JUST ADV for mayor.

Needs ADV to grease the skids as mayor, regardless of district.

Stop being so NAIVE (or partisan).

ADV is ONLY holding the victim down? Not engaging in the gang Rape?? Is that your defense???

You fail to realize Mayor Sam that we have to pick from these two candidates. It results into this, the worst of these two is Antonio Villaraigosa. He is a bag of tricks and I do not believe his lies. He lies constantly to the people and he parades himself as a coalition builder, when all he has succeeded to do is bring divisiveness into the communities. As parents in South Central, I have, about Villaraigosa and racism. Majority feel he is a threat to a TRUE LAtino/African American Coalition. He will not help but hurt what has already been worked on way before he shows up taking credit for other peoples work. This is why many people are tired of him. All he does is hear out the other candidates or politicians ideas, accomplishments, and speeches, and he comes out saying, "I'll do that and more!" He is empty in the head, empty in the soul, and I choose Hahn as Mayor. I will never vote for Villaraigosa, (right Athena...oops i meant Parke Skelton.)

A. Villaraigosa has caused deaths of INNOCENT VICTMS by opposing gang injunctions, TARNISHED THE DREAMS OF A NEW SCHOOL AND SIDED WITH RICHARD MERUELO, Jose Huizar is no innocent bystander in all of this, Villaraigosa is a flip flopper on major issues, has shown NO LEADERSHIP, and is in cahoots with VIGNALI and SON. These are just some of his long list of adventures. He has no regard for his fellow man, no regard for the future of kids in Los Angeles.
Do you have any idea of how much damage 1,000 kilos of cocaine can do? Well, 800 pounds of cocaine could effectively provide one rock of crack for every kid in Los Angeles. It's 1,000 kilos less, but still, a substantial amount of cocaine.

There are black co-defendants who are still in jail and will be for a long time. But Carlos Vignali is now out. He is a white man. KING: Because he had influence...

But a perfect proposal from LA would not have secured a winning bid. If ADV's "stellar" campaign staff let large contributions through undetected from 20 completely unbelievable sources (secretaries, CSR's, etc.) at one company looking to do business with the city, while they bragged about their fundraising capabilities, just THINK what's next on the assembly line of botched campaign tactics.

Can't ADV, with ALL that money, cut a NEW ad for TV that 95 percent of the viewers haven't seen 95 times already since February? Is this campaigning or socialist indoctrination techniques.

Pry my weary eyes open, it's "A Clockwork Orang-U-gonna-vote-4-Tony?"

I hope he at least made a contribution to that ex-teacher's retirement fund - he's been on TV more in recent months than Michael Jackson's attorney. Of course making new ads would mean inventing something new to say (some accomplishment, some plans for the future), and THAT's out of the question.

SO SAD, the ADV/MAYOR SAM/CHIEF PARKER/ACE/PARKE multi-headed hydra is reduced to re-posting old information from weeks ago debunked by multiple sources as being a non-starter in the Anti-hahn bile.

L.A. prepared a valid application as did several other city's but was a long shot -- a number of city were ruled out because of some loophole that is uncommon to this kind of application -- that NO ONE but the issuers could have known would be a disqualifier.

The No. Calif. cities were always the leading candidiates because of the proximity to a number of key institutions that do similar work... that DON'T exist here in the same proximity.

Read your own blog, look back.

What right-thinking advanced research facility WOULD locate in city with as poorly educated a work force as L.A. boasts.

If you're pissed about missing this opportunity, beat up on the people that have run LAUSD into the ground and turned public schools into a third-world institution in L.A. The same organizations supporting ADV, because they KNOW he won't threaten their fiefdom.

Like ADV, holding power is more important than results. 50 percent H.S. dropouts now, 60 percent next year under "master educator" ADV as mayor, 70 percent dropout rate by the time he jumps ship for the next job.

ADV always leaves his constituents in worse shape than he finds them... CD14 with dozens of stagant, now overpriced civic projects -- because ADV needed to elect Kerry president.

As Dr. Phil would say: "How'd that work for you, John Kerry?"

There were several requirments stated in the RFP.

One was for two floors to be connected with an internal stairwell and the other was for a guaranteed term of lease on the facility. This was not brain surgery.

Deputy Mayor Renata, and therefore, LA, omitted to include compliance with these two REQUIREMENTS.

You guys can have your own opinions, but you can't have your own facts.

Candidate Antonio Villaraigosa has benefited from $82,000 in "independent expenditures" from speculator Richard Meruelo. And that's not all.
If Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa wins the May 17 election against Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn, he will have at least one major businessman to thank: Richard Meruelo, a real estate speculator with a huge portfolio of property stretching from downtown Los Angeles to Miami.

Meruelo is Villaraigosa's largest individual donor, spending $82,000 on so-called "independent expenditures" -- campaign mailers and telephone calls promoting the councilman.......

Get a clue people -- ADV is only Hahn with a new empty suit, less intelligence, a bit more charisma and even dirtier, darker connections. You want to trade St. Louis-based PR shops for giftshop franchisers from Florida and real estate slumlords from Miami?

ADV can crow all he wants about ethics, but he's among the most tarnished himself. His entire career has been hounded by special interest spectre's over his shoulder and people BUYING the priviledge of his support on legislation.

Conman is too good a word for this empty suit.

Tell the high schools students who are climbing on top of each other in Northeast L.A. that ADV's dirty connections are BETTER for L.A. than being overbilling $800,000 by a pickpocket PR consultant.

Tell them with a straight face, too. This is Hollywood. Someone may give you an Oscar for that performance.

You're NOT thinking ADV's people could have done a better job attracting a $4 billion research facility down here, are you?

Dang, his moronic staff couldn't figure out how to START (not COMPLETE, just START), an $80,000 dog parke INSIDE the city of L.A. working with just CITY departments and the CITY attorney, given more than a YEAR to do it. And all THEY they had to do was send some memos back and forth to start the process. All the REAL work was being done by OTHER departments (who were ready, waiting and puzzled by the delays).

And that was one of the EASIEST of the 30-40 projects sitting on the shelf for TWO YEARS in the district -- no opposition, plenty of precedence in the city for how to do it. A cookie-cutter process.

But Tony's "cookies" aren't hired because they can "cut" it (if you know what I mean -- wink, wink).

I don't know who this Renata is, but I GUARANTEE she's Einstein compared to the smartest person ADV has ever hired in CD14. Hell, she's TWO Einsteins. If they got the application in the MAIL, they're light years ahead of ADV's staffers.

Picture those same ADV airheads that couldn't send appropriate paperwork ACROSS THE HALL or up a couple flights of stairs for a tiny, "petty" project in 12 months time suddenly facing a deadline for a highly competitive bid like the stem cell one -- a couple months away? PLEASE... don't EVEN try to tell me "it couldn't get any worse."

I'm living it! It is FAR worse! And these staffers are your FUTURE deputy mayors if ADV wins -- these 3rd string castoffs from Sacramento assembly offices who can barely SPELL Los Angeles, let alone work the system here.

You think new advanced technology businesses will COME to L.A. under ADV's leadership. HA, we'll not only NOT have them coming in, we'll have LOWEST-tech furniture upholstery shops and carpet warehouses LEAVING the city in droves.

It CAN and WILL get A LOT worse... as two years in CD14 is my witness.

Random thoughts...

1. IF Los Angeles had managed to submit a decent application and got selected, you know Jim Hahn would be blowing his horn up and down Spring Street about how he brought $4 billion of jobs to LA. Instead, they blew the application so now its not really a big deal and old news. Don't lie about that Kam, you know this absolutely true.

2. Renata is an idiot.

3. Yes that is funny about offering Eli Broad's private jet. I wonder if they also were going to toss in a free Taurus from Bert Boeckman too.

4. See item #3 above. Los Angeles has about the dumbest public servants in the nation. That is why every other major city in the country is far more livable and ahead of LA LA Land.

5. See item #4 above. Tony Villar is a dumbshit. Jim Hahn is dumber. We had three better candidates in March, but we are left with Tony.

6. Will Tony change anything? Not much, but he's not Jim Hahn.

7. Jim Hahn has been a failed mayor. He needs to learn that when you fail, you get fired. Even if the guy they replace you with is not better. Happens all the time in business.

8. Therefore be it resolved, we need to send Jim Hahn back home to San Pedro.

Re: #6 "Will Tony change anything? Not much, but he's not Jim Hahn."

If you knew Tony, like we know Tony, you'd never be able to say anything close to that.

The ONLY changes in CD14 in two years have been for the WORSE.

Make your judgements of Jim Hahn if you wish -- you're unqualified to act as judge in Tony's case.

He's our disaster, and we're making his idiocy known as best we can, on a strapped budget, against the lovesick hordes of people who don't have a CLUE how bad he'll be for the city... who ONLY know his starry eyed rhetoric and refuse to look at his "LACKLUSTER" (L.A. Times) record.

CD14 activists -- who have worked with Hahn as mayor and Tony as CM during the same period -- are the only one's qualified to make the comparison.

Why do you think we keep pressing the fact that there are NO Eastside activists listed among ADV's individual endorsments. That nearly EVERY neighborhood council president in his district SUPPORTS HAHN?

This is critical... those who KNOW how ADV works, AND how Hahn works, up close -- prefer Hahn, overwhelmingly -- warts and all.

Those who ONLY know Hahn, and see Tony's rhetoric are easily fooled.

Count the endorsements from Eastside activist for ADV -- you WON'T need both hands.

ASK WHY????

(And PLEASE, don't tell me how the district voted in the primary. We're talking about people who KNOW and have WORKED with ADV...)

DAILY NEWS readers don't seem to agree with their local newspaper's endorsement:

Re "Villaraigosa for mayor" (Editorial, May 1):

You choose Antonio Villaraigosa for mayor? His qualifications are: He was a union leader (a negative), he was president of the American Civil Liberties Union (a negative), he is a California Democrat (a negative, but so is Hahn), he was a leader in the California Assembly when California was falling into the pit (a negative), and John Kerry and Maxine Waters endorse him (a negative). Question: Why would you endorse him? You should know your enemies.

And James Hahn? Everything negative you have said about him is true. Again, you should know your enemies. I think it is time to demand a "none of the above" option on the ballot and, in this case, leave the office vacant for four years. At least, if there is no mayor, the mayor can't hurt you.

Bob Sharp
Arleta

Similar ideas

In the editorial "Villaraigosa for mayor" (May 1), the Daily News says the "choice could not be clearer" and also expresses a concern that Los Angeles does not become two cities, one rich, one poor, without a thriving middle class.

Unfortunately, both candidates have similar backing and similar ideas. Antonio Villaraigosa's creation of well-paying jobs appears to be more through mandates, rather than good business growth, and both candidates favor oppressive, investment-killing regulations when it comes to the most prevalent and historic way (rental housing) for many people to achieve middle-class (and higher) status.

Victor N. Viereck
Valley Village

Choice is obvious

Re "Villaraigosa for mayor" (Editorial, May 1):

James Hahn has made public safety a top priority for Los Angeles. Crime is down. Hahn brought back community policing and our senior lead officers. We have one of the best police chiefs in the nation, William Bratton, and the Los Angeles Police Department's rank and file, depleted under Chief Bernard Parks - we lost 1,000 officers - is increasing.

On the other hand, there is Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa, who while a leader of the ACLU opposed gang injunctions. Villaraigosa thought more of the rights of gang members than those of hard-working families. Boyle Heights in his district has 15 homicides, and Villaraigosa has yet to address that a problem even exists. He's been too busy campaigning. The choice is obvious: Mayor Hahn.

In answer to 9:12 a.m.'s sarcastic avoid-the-issue question:

"How much does Hahn pay you?"

Hahn has "paid" me for four years by doing a decent, although not excellent job as mayor -- but nevertheless decreasing crime, holding our utilities stable while the state was browning out, giving us better constituent service through 311, expanding after school programs, listening to and equippping neighborhood councils whose board members I voted for, and bringing some new jobs and additional cops to L.A. in spite of a tough economy and a do-nothing (L.A. Weekly) city council.

ADV, on the other hand, has "rewarded" me and other CD14 residents with inept and arrogant staff hires, negligent or usually non-existent constitutent service, absentee and ineffective representation on City council and in key committees like Transporation and Educations, inattentiveness to ANY kind of community input - including the advisory neighborhood councils, ignorance of all city operations to the point of stagnancy in civic upkeep and improvements in the district, inability to move any substantive project to completion in the district, inability to move any progressive program though city council.

ADV will "pay" the city the same type of "rewards" given the opportunity.

Even many of his supporters, close to the Holy Hill, know this, and just turn a blind, somewhat embarrassed eye and say, "Well... he'll be 'better' as mayor... it's more 'big picture' and he's more visionary."

What? I thought he was "hands on"... are his ads lying? (yes)

Please -- his VISION is ONLY trained on the next job, already (and I don't mean MARE of L.A.)

MARE... that's right. How come the people who beat Bush up as a "moron" for not being able to pronounce the three-syllables of "Nu-cle-ar" correctly, look the other way when ADV can't say the two-syllable May-or, without sounding like he's talking about a female horse?

(Save the "ethnic/racist" barbs... has nothing to do with that). Those syllables aren't pronounced anything like MARE in Spanish, either.

Not enough time? Are you kidding. They're lucky if they have to file one story at day at the TIMES. Why do you think they call it the "velvet coffin" in the trade. Good, energetic reporters get hired in there and become soft and die of atrophy.

Rip the wire, read the news release, makes 3-4 phone calls, take a 2-3 hour lunch with cronies, surf the net for a couple hours, crank out 1,000 words or so a day. Clock out by 4:30.

Tough gig. No wonder they're impressed with ADV's "energy".

PLEASE, community clean-ups are photo-ops for ADV. He scheduled more in the 6-8 months SINCE filing for mayor than during the 1+ year before. Public works supplies the materials, he shows up to grandstand.

Show up, give a pep-talk, push a broom for a few minutes, shake some hands, avoid the media's questions, be at a fundraising coffee by mid-morning, while your staff stands around watching people pick up scraps of paper.

DO YOU REALLY think he's going to dedicate 4 hours on a Saturday 10 days before the election to CLEANING the district he's ignored for TWO YEARS.

This is ANOTHER example of the city paying for his campaigning.

Then they count the crowd, multiple by 4 and tell people you had a thousand volunteers take part. I've been there... the reports afterwards are like the "great crop success" reports that used to come out of Pravda in the Soviet Union, while the people were living on bread and water.

No charge on that last one -- Jim Hahn!

For real 9:04 a.m. -- to look at ADV's list of "community leader" endorsments you would think he was the CM of Bernard Parks' district, not CD14.

Does this mean there ARE no community leaders on the Eastside? Could have fooled me...

Villaraigosa's piling on with a Barbara Boxer endorsment today... or I should say she's piling on his bandwagon.

It's a shame this guy doesn't have one-tenth as many real ideas as he does back-scratching endorsements. He might even be worth voting for -- but what was his last idea not stolen from someone else?

Run the school system (scratch that, too).

Most of the valley leaders have not forgiven Hahn for what he did to us during the secession and the only ones who endorsed him are the same old racist farts we have been trying to get rid of for years.

Who is Paula Boland, and who cares?

And why is there a three page posting on Miami Vice? No one really give a rat's ass about Miami.

You CD 14ers can all move there if you want, we won't miss you at all.

The Miami cash-in is a prime example of ADV's arrogance and feeling of invulnerability. He has the Nixon yes-man following that won't allow him to see the truth and makes him feel impervious to even his own mistakes being discovered.

This is why 2001 shocked him so much, and why he still cries "foul" -- why doing the same thing in reverse to his opponents.

This is why 2005 will disable him politically, for good.

He's done in L.A. politics and will have to retreat to Sacramento where rhetoric is king.

More likely Jimmy will be moving back to San Pedro, to spend the other three hours a day he wastes now in LA with his kids.

Then he can be there 24/7 instead of 21/5 and 24/2.

The number of people who've counted Hahn out incorrectly in past citywide races could field a basketball team (a bad one, but the number of players would be right).

The number of people who've counted ADV out incorrectly in past citywide races is -- well, zero.

ADV is the most bitter of the Hahn-whipped alums, or else he would be keeping his promises and working on CD14 problems right now.

(AH, who am I kidding, he'd be planning his state senate campaign, just a bit earlier).

Hello to all,

Every once in a while i get a random phone call from someone telling me my name has appeared on this site. Thanks for the mention, but usually the stuff folks blame/link me too are wrong. I now know how all those celebrities feel like when they read about themselves on grocery tabloids.

It's a weird feeling, this is about the 4th time i think i've blogged on here to give a very simple message. I am not MEAT. When i originally wrote this, it was during the primary campaign. I had then and still do have friends in every camp. I plan on keeping these friends, i have no interest in saying anything negative about anyone.

P.S. As for the poker -- it's a fun hobby.
