Thank you, Daily News: Your endorsement of Antonio Villaraigosa was refreshing and 100 percent correct. This Valley voter wants the guy that gave LAFCO the $1.3 million to study secession so my neighbors could have a chance at independence.
This Valley voter wants the guy that opposes Van Nuys airport noise pollution. Wants to shut down Sunshine and Bradley dumps - as a city councilman he has provided 359 cops, compare that with Hahn's broken promises. Hahn's only accomplishment in his four years is his penchant for FBI investigations and DA inquiries, what an embarrassment.

We remember that Jim Hahn is the one who - through what many would call corrupt campaign practices - opposed our drive for indpendence in the Valley, that which we truly deserved. Either candidate is a lame excuse of a politician. So Mayor Sam stop spinning so much, you might just fall sooner than you think. As for the Mayor's race, the Republicans should engage in a grass roots campaign for the next major election to convert the voters to the Republican party. The day this happens then you will see your buddy Villaraigosa crying for Hahn to unite and fight the other threatening party-republicans...

I am not a AV supporter or Hahn supporter. I am a voter who will sit this one out due to the lack of leadership options. BTW, are you that proud of an LAUSD system that promotes people based on race and achieves an over 50% drop out rate. A school system like this in a respectable country would have been closed down. Why would the teachers union support AV. I believe they know even thought Mr. ripoff Muruelo is his friend, he won't make any waves or major changes that is threatening to their jobs. The teachers are sedentary in their ways and do not like changes, this is why the kids lose out. No competition. Abolish the unions and there you have it---True Competition, that the kids will benefit from.
Today Roy Romer said the drop out rates have been like this for over 20 years, no different now.
So the LAUSD performs on a bankrupt mentality and shortchanges the students from a real education. They lack positive achievement and promote by association. Why would Los Angeles residents want to keep this type of socialistic school system in place. One that has proven Not to work. The small school initiative is not going to work if they keep the same teachers, same beaurocracy, and same teaching mentality. You need innovation, new staff, new pay, and new competition.
Jim Hahn won't be the only loser on May 17. What about Hahn's point man to the Eastside and to the Latino community? If Antonio dominates CD1, CD13 and CD14 like he did in the primary, Gil Cedillo might want to think about retiring from his senate seat at the next election rather than face a humiliating defeat at the hands of a Villaraigosa ally.

Deutsch's calls for a public airing of the probe into Penelas' fundraising is based on contributions to Penelas' campaign from associates and employees of CarePlus Medical Centers, whose owner told employees in March that they were each ''expected'' to give Penelas $1,000.
Such contributions are considered coerced and are illegal, and Penelas' campaign has said the mayor would not accept the contributions.
A Herald analysis of campaign finance data, though, found that Penelas took at least $68,000 from the company's employees, their relatives and business associates. The campaign has said the donations came not through the e-mail solicitation but from a fundraising reception held at the home of the firm's owner in May.

U.S. Rep. Peter Deutsch filed a complaint Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission alleging that Democratic rival Alex Penelas illegally coerced donations from a South Florida health care company in their U.S. Senate race.
The complaint by Deutsch, D-Pembroke Pines, accuses the Miami-Dade County mayor of receiving at least $49,000 in illegal contributions from 41 employees and their spouses of CarePlus Medical Centers Inc. Both are competing for the seat of Sen. Bob Graham, who is running for president.

Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas, whose campaign pledged to reject contributions for his U.S. Senate campaign resulting from a controversial e-mail appeal sent to employees of a South Florida healthcare firm, took tens of thousands of dollars from people associated with the company.

Yes, it is true, I've been gone a few years, but things seem to have changed.
I was looking at this thing and notice that Alex Padilla, the City Council President has endorsed Villaraigosa; Councilman Dennis Zine, who was supporting Hahn has switched to Villaraigosa.
I don't think Tony Cardenas has made a choice yet.
But, Laura Chick and Jack Weiss have been supporting Villaraigosa.
Other electeds, like former Speaker Bob Hertzberg, Senator Richard Alarcon, former Mayor Dick Riordan, Assemblyman Keith Richman and Congressman Brad Sherman support Villaraigosa.
Civic Leaders like Richard Close, Gordon Murley, Polly Ward and Dave Fleming support Villaraigosa.
Oh yeah, The Valley Green Sheet, the bible of the Valley (well, that's what it was when I was around) now known as The Daily News has endorsed Villaraigosa.
That's about all I can think of, except for the Hal Bernson crew, like Greig Smith, Bert Boeckmann and Ted Stein, who support Jimmy.
Come to think of it, I haven't seen much of Ted Stein lately. Wonder where he is...

Most of CD14 -- nearly 2/3 is in Hollenbeck. The pieces of CD14 in Northeast are the quieter, wealthier, least crime-ridden areas of his district. The larger pieces of NE, like Highland Park, have had watches for ages. The highest CRIME areas in NE are in CD1.
Any POSSIBLE growth in the number of watches would have been in the central and south of the district -- NOT in NE division, and NE officers don't even know the NAMES of most of the patrol officers across the freeway, let along what does on there.

Villaraigosa has missed 21 of the 220 council meetings held since he took office in July 2003, about 9.5% of all sessions. He is chairman of the council's Transportation Committee and has missed 5 of 34 meetings since he took over in 2003.....12 of the 26 meetings of the Education and Neighborhoods Committee.
Let's not forget the $20 million Antonio forgot to collect for parking fines last year as Chair of Transportation Committee.
City Councilman Dennis Zine is set to announce today that he is formally switching his endorsement from Mayor James Hahn to Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa, sources said late Wednesday.

Just because three people write anti-Villar letters to the Daily News does not mean a groundswell for/against Tony. Lots of people write letters to the Daily News all the time, so much so they print a list of all the letter writers at the end of the year. Vic Viercek was one of those anti-Villar guys, he is a longtime Republican activist, anti-CRA guy.

Your the only one excited here about Eliseo and the recall. I could care less about it. The most important issue is for people to realize to what extent Villaraigosa has continued to be corrupt. The people should know the truth, not a marketed clone.

We have been promised a success by Eliseo so that this election, which is going badly for us right now by all indications, can be turned around, once the people of Los Angeles know the true feelings of the voters in CD 14.
The recall is the opportunity to share this support with the rest of the city!

Yeah, the election is going REALLY BADLY for Antonio if you read all the papers today. They are finally reporting what many of us have been saying all along and they aren't finished. Hahn has been slammed for over a year and now it's Antonio's turn. Couldn't come at a better time.
I don't think the signatures are there for the recall. It is all possibly a big bluff.

SO, slacker ADV is ONLY on two commitees (most CM are on 4-6). He loses $20 million in the ONLY one he chairs, and the other one is not "important" enough to even attend.

I also think he did request it, but the reason he gave is BS. With 16 homocides in the area, he should understand that every life is important, not just his "pretty" face. Have you seen him lately, he should have a cosmetic surgeon connection, he needs one.
It's all true. Hahn did almost nothing for the Valley and until recently didn't have any decent staff to go out there and at least pretend he cared. But Villariagosa is married to Miguel and Elena and they will run the city while he is out running for some higher office. If you want the unions running the city even more than they do now, you vote for ADV and if you can live with the status quo, for four years, you vote Hahn. Three mayors is too much of a crowd for me.
