Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Monday
Which Los Angeles City Officials have agreed to a pay cut? We gave some details on Saturday but this report from ABC 7 goes into further detail.
There's more...
In a sad scene reminiscent of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, disgraced former Los Angeles Department of Water General Manager H. David Nahai rambles on in the Daily News about how the DWP has gone to pot since he was booted. Nahai makes a list of his achievements as GM and cries out for a hero to take over the agency.
Speaking of Nahai the guy who fired him is also leaving the Villaraigosa Administration. Jay Carson, former aide to both Mr. and Mrs. Bill Clinton has ended his term as a hatchet man for the Mayor greasing the skids for Austin Beutner. Carson will move onto a position with Film LA but still serve as an "adviser" to the Mayor.
Does anyone still think Mayor Villaraigosa is going to run for US Senate in 2012 should DiFi retire?
With pumpkin bread crumbs on his chin Clowncilman Tom LeBong has been fighting one of the scourges of LA, taco and food trucks. It seems as if however that everyone from Socialist candidate for Governor (no not Jerry Brown) Carlos Alvarez to Johnathan Gold writing in the LA Times stand with the taco truck. Gold not only notes the gastronomic diversity the trucks bring to the City but that they are gathering place for folks from all stratas of LA and might just have a positive effect.
Are you prepared for a natural disaster? The LA Fire Department recommends you have at least three days of supplies for your entire family stored away. Here are some suggestions from the LAFD Blog.
Summer is not technically over but already the homeless missions Downtown are gearing up for the winter and will need your support. Our friend and fellow blogger Don "Godizlla" Garza will be chronicling their efforts over the next few months. Be sure to show these great organizations your support!

Now that it's a year later, exactly what makes Nahai "disgraced" as you call him? He had the longest tenure in the slot for anyone in the decade. He was forced out when he no longer had the will to balance the people's interests against the Mayor's use of the IBEW as a political slush fund. He took two reservoirs offline that previous clowns were unwilling to admit were contaminated. A couple of lazy journalists led by their noses by the Mayor's team, who never even asked him what was going on at the agency, wrote about his personal water bill. It's a "disgrace" to have a lawn? What's disgraceful is: water rationing, the IBEW, the Mayor's pet poodle Raman Raj, Brian D'Arcy, Austin Beutner, SD Freeman, skipping money transfers to the General Fund, and city layoffs to other departments while the DWP skates.

mailander's got the right take more or less: I too thought it was typically shabby of Higby to call Nahai "disgraced" for being let go for NOT playing ball with the Mayor on everything, including that "green energy" land deal in the desert which did NOT benefit DWP or the taxpayers, but was designed to shore up Tony V's "green credentials" at all costs.
This blog bashed ANYONE for any reason, no rhyme or reason.
This sorry excuse for a political blog ignores the fact that Council members transferred city employees onto the rolls of DWP, the Ports and LAX, to pander to the unions, at taxpapyers' expense. INSTEAD of using the money spent on new hires (which the depts. had gotten along just fine WITHOUT) on fixing the antiquated infrastructure.
No mention of your hero Clown Carmen either, who refused a cut "because I made more in the private sector." Not factoring in city-paid cop details, armored car and chauffeur and gravy to hire a bunch of his flunkies and acolytes.
Nahai did as well as anyone could to balance the demands of D'Arcy and his union, the mayor and his objectives and the City Council, keeping in mind the taxpayers.
But instead of focusing on issues the idiot Daily News and freelance activist Alan Mittelstaedt went to his house and made a stink about his own inefficient use of water.
YES that was an issue but showing up at his house unannounced to be a pain in the butt instead of looking at the big picture, is WHY so-called "political writers" and "journalists" are worse than useless in this town. The personal vendettas/ childishness make them downright harmful and easy to use by those who deign to hold their noses and talk to them.

DiFi is old and getting older. If she runs again in 2012 it's because the party doesn't think they can hold the seat.
Mayor Tony is running if DiFi is not. That's a given.
Mayor Tony or a token Repub. nominee... that's really what it will come down to.
If the CA GOP had embraced McClintock in 2003 it wouldn't be so screwed up and late now. I say that because the Tea Party is basically McLintock's platform. So... maybe the CA GOP finally stops being racists, right wing extremists punks, and get him to run in 2012.

Do you think it proves Nuch is a bully if he had LAPD bust a collective cause he thought a blogger who was calling him names was broadcasting from there? When are all the patients ever carries out in handcuffs? Hoping to nap the culprit? Were city resources used to carry out a personal beef?
