Jack Humphreville's Cheap Shot
Jack Humphreville, an otherwise good guy who some folks would like to see run against Tom Le Bong, nearly loses all credibility in a screed against VICA and it's President Stuart Waldman for VICA's opposition to the idea of a Ratepayer Advocate for the DWP.
How did Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, this time Jack is being a dick do that?
He opens up his rant with an unkind reference to Waldman's weight.
Now perhaps as a calorically challenged American myself I'm a bit sensitive to such charges even if I have dropped 60 pounds since the end of June. But it really makes Jack lose all credibility - and when it comes to the DWP Jack has a lot - to let his anger at Waldman's position let him take a cheap shot.
I've known Stuart for nearly 20 years since our days at Valley College and working on the Clinton campaign (yes sadly I was once a Democrat but I got over it). He was skinny then. But age, marriage, whatever brings more weight and its not an easy struggle.
On the surface the Ratepayer Advocate sounds like a nice idea. But nice ideas are not necessarily good ones. The devil is in the details. The DWP is so messed up it may take more than the Ratepayer Advocate to fix things.
Jack has a right to disagree with VICA; I've done more than that myself calling it a useless organization and getting a nasty email from my old friend Stuart. But I don't think I called Stuart fat.
Reasonable people can disagree and perhaps if they are willing, we would love to have Jack and Stuart reasonably disagree on this topic at this blog.
Jack, however if he wants to be a politician, must not let his anger get the best of him and call names.
That's my job.
Have a nice weekend dum dums.

Oversensitive Mr. Higby? Did Jack Humphreville really say "fat"? Perhaps you should read the dictionary, or ask Jack for clarification before writing such drivel.
World English Dictionary
rotund (rəʊˈtʌnd)
— adj
1. rounded or spherical in shape
2. plump
3. sonorous or grandiloquent; full in tone, style of speaking, etc
[C18: from Latin rotundus wheel-shaped, round, from rota wheel]

Jack Humpreville has more integrity in his (skinny) little finger than VICA has on its entire Board of (greedy) Directors. Sorry Higby, but the only reference to Stuart's weight was use of the word "rotund" which most certainly is not calling a person "fat" as you incorrectly state.
The use of the word "rotund" was used along with other metaphors linked to Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham. I believe that the Vicar in the Robin Hood story might have been rotund. So it was part of allegory and legend that Humpreville was invoking to make a point: Stuart had failed to disclose his lack of neutrality to the Advisory Panel to DWP -- a serious charge of conflict of interest.
As usual, Jack Humpreville has hit the nail on the head -- or should I say the "rotund vicar" on the head?

Never questioned Jack's integrity in fact went out of my way to make it clear he's a good guy and generally knows what he's talking about.
But his screed is full of anger and presumption that Waldman and VICA have to check for approval first from the NCs - 90% of who are run by wackos like Lisa Sarkin and Jose Aguilar - before they make a statement?
I'm sorry I understand that the NCs think they're big shit and maybe it's from years of abuse at the hands of Mayor Tom, John Ferraro, Tom LeBong, Mayor Dick, et al. but blogger please. VICA has every right to shill for the biz community right or wrong on any view.
Business is a basket case in the San Fernando Valley, we have the worst record of job creation and new business in the country. We should be another Orange County, Santa Monica, Santa Clarita, etc. but we're Calcutta. I've blasted VICA in the past but they're all we have.
Again the Ratepayer Advocate may be a good idea. But let's not shove it down people's throats until it's fully vetted.
I'm just sayin.

Robin Hood???
Does Jack think he's Kevin Costner?

How you know the ratepayer advocate is a smoke and mirror position...Eric Garcetti is speaking out in favor of it. You may think I'm being sarcastic.

I've known Jack for years and am a bit taken aback by this.

Jack has more credibility than VICA and your site combined.

That's not saying much.

And again Mr. Red Herring we are not at all questioning Jack's credibility.
We're questioning the need for a cheap shot.
At worst Jack has made a small mistake.
That's about it.

Michael,
YOu and everyone in this city should be thanking Jack for at least caring enough to go after DWP many times. I don't see you or STuart out there for the people as I have Jack. He's a good guy and sorry if you don't like what he says but to use your blog to attack him is just wrong. Jack has tons of support throughout the city because we know him and his passion for what is right. AT least he's not like a lot of peeople who read this blog who personally attack people and write immature rantings. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK JACK. WE HAVE YOUR BACK

So when a meme suits you--Carmen the Clown, Jane the Joke, Westside White Guy, &c., that's OK. When Red Spunk calls an Assemblyman a "crybaby" and "little Mikey" that's OK. But it's not OK for Jack to call Waldman "rotund"?
Higby, if it weren't for the entertainment value of such jibes, this blog would be in deep trouble. At least Jack drapes some content around his namecalling.
Do you really think, as Waldo says, the DWP is fine the way it is?

I love the dumbasses on here with the mentality of an Alabama tow truck driver.
"We're with you Jack! I love you man! You're an angel from heaven! Fuck Higby!"
No one ever said Jack wasn't great. No one ever said he doesn't do great work.
I'm saying he made ONE mistake in his approach to writing a piece, something I would expect from raggedy old bloggers like me but not from someone running for office.
So get off your high horse and just because Stuart doesn't agree with you is no reason to call him fat.
And to the Nuch-whole there's a big difference between what Nuch, Jane, Cooley etc. do to our City that does rise to the occasion of calling them names. Jack nor Stuart are anywhere near that.

Wow, defensive as all get out. Never seen Higby write so much in response to so few posts. And Higby still doesn't get it. The only person who's used the word "fat" is Higby himself.
And speaking of namecalling, who's really the "dick" Michael? Geez. Talk about cheap shots.

Michael throws out the negative name calling in almost every post, but he thinks it's ok because he's not running for office. It's never ok Michael.

RED SPOT - WHERE ARE YOU?
Please write something to cap this so the silly dialog going on here can stop.

"nearly loses all credibility"? Dude, you are now doing some major backtracking Higby. Wow!

Humphreyville and his handlers are clearly concerned Mayor Sam is going to go all Gatto, Essel or Villaraigosa on their guy if he runs. Obviously trying to nip it in the bud.
Call Hacopian!

I don't think Jack Humphreville is all that. HE thinks he is. I think name calling about weight and/or looks is wrong, whether it is the word rotund or fat. Do you really think people don't know what rotund is and we needed your definition? I HATE VICA, like Stuart, and don't care for Jack. I wouldn't make fun of Jack's hair though.
