Mayor Sam profile: City Council Candidate Tamar Galatzan
By Tamar Galatzan
As someone who lives, works, raises kids, and pays taxes in CD2, I know firsthand the city often dismisses the Valley and its concerns. I am running because I have a strong record of fighting and delivering for the residents of CD2, and I will continue that effort at City Hall.
Among my priorities are balancing the city’s budget, making our streets safer, and improving our schools. I will work tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for all residents of this wide and diverse district.
Among my priorities are balancing the city’s budget, making our streets safer, and improving our schools. I will work tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for all residents of this wide and diverse district.
As a criminal prosecutor and a school board member, I relish challenging the status quo, and I derive a guilty pleasure from pushing and prodding bureaucrats to do what's right for our community. Being a good city councilmember is not a popularity contest, it’s doing whatever it takes to make our neighborhoods safer and more livable.

Attention all Mayor Sam posters...
Don't go off the deep end.
I'm not supporting Tamar.
Mayor Sam is just letting every candidate make their pitch to the voters of CD 2.
Tamar was first to respond.
First come, first served.
The other nine might want to take notice.
Whatever my criticisms are of Tamar, they are not that she is unready or unprepared.
Quite the opposite.

no, but winning the election is, dummy.
make our neighnorhoods more livable?
guilty pleasure from prodding bureaucrats?
who's buying this?

I am shocked, shocked mind you that a person of low credibility would endorse such an act. Imagine for one minute that an elected public official would misuse public funds. Have we stooped so low that we would allow someone like Tamar or that creep from Burbank to mimic the esteemed council member from CD 14?

You gotta be kidding. A slam piece comes out questioning her ethics, and shes the first one to post her profile hours after the bad news hits the stands. "I want to help the schools" !!!! Ok honey you already have THAT job and you havent done it. Save yourself and the voters of CD2 alot of aggrevation and just drop out. Finish your school term and try again in 2 years. Maybe the stench of your stinky campaign tactics will have cleared up by then. But for now you have been tainted in the voters eyes.

Tamar better be prepared for the investigation into the campaign mailer that she paid for with funds that she could have used for the schools she's supposed to care about.
She ran for the LAUSD claiming she wanted to do something for the schools. The Mayor gave her a ton of money ($2.2M) to buy the seat, and she had money left over after the election. What did she do with the money? She spent it on a glitzy mailer promoting herself, instead of using it to buy much needed school supplies.
That's the sort of person Tamar Galatzan is, and it should not be a surprise - her old boss Rocky Delgadillo did the same thing at the City Attorney's Office. He used hundreds of thousands of dollars of the City Attorney's money to promote himself for his run for Attorney General. Now Tamar does the same thing.
Tamar's association with Delgadillo and Jack Weiss (the man she supported for Cit Attorney) shows she shares the same ethics and morals as those two failures. Right now it looks like anyone by Galatzan - at least with E$$el or Krackorian you know what you're getting, but the terrible trio of Delgadillo, Weiss and Galatzan are far too sneaky to be trusted.

Phil, I am one of the candidates and know nothing about this invitation to pitch the voters. Did I miss the public notice posted on this blog 72 hours in advance? (LOL!)

After someone pointed out on this blog last night that all 3 of the links Reston listed after her hit piece on Tamar were THIS blog, including the previous thread with the critical comments and theme Reston COPIED, just like what they did with Jack Weiss, she removed them and now there's just ONE older Mayor Sam thread about Tamar linked there.
-- Obviously Reston was embarrassed to be caught copying the gossip and stacked comments from other campaigns as "fact"
so she quickly covered her tracks.
The nature of the article was also skewed in the same way, quoting from the biggest critics who have something to gain by attacking the subject, gratuitous mentions of Villaraigosa, and giving Shallman the biggest quote and soundbite: "this is corruption," he says, in a wildly exaggerated statement.
Then you've got Hacopian saying that Tamar telling voters that it's the Assembly making the cuts at LAUSD, which is like saying that the Pope heads the Church, is aimed politically at Krekorian, when she never mentions him. The guy touts serving on the Assembly as his qualification, but suddenly anyone mentioning the Assembly in any context is politically biased? Still, it's Shallman who's got the outrageous soundbite.
You people may be happy about this but what it shows is the total lack of ethical and professional standards at the Times. The extent to which the supposedly "journalistic" side is editorialising. Joe Mailander's been pointing this out about them but still, the extent of this is scandalous.

PHIL WHY DIDN'T YOU POST MY COMMENT THAT HAD COMMENTS OF SURPRISE ABOUT YOU?
I THINK THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO ARE SURPRISED THAT YOU RAISE KIDS AND PAY TAXES.
IT'S FAIR TO ASK HOW YOU PAY THOSE TAXES AND WHETHER THE CHILDREN ARE YOUR OWN. OR DID THE QUESTIONS CATCH YOU IN A DISHONEST MOMENT?
I THINK THAT IGNORING THE QUESTIONS WILL ONLY CAUSE MORE PEOPLE TO WONDER ABOUT YOUR VERACITY, NOT JUST TAMAR'S.

Any one but Essel.

7:00 and 7:59 clearly work for Essel, trying to lump Tamar together with Delgadillo and Jack Weiss, who have nothing to do with each other -- except being targets of Shallman, Trutanich, Zine.
The numerous hit pieces on Weiss were inspired by Shallman's urgings, usually quoted Zine who openly worked for Shallman and Trutanich, and were usually LATER explained away as nothing or false allegations totally like about the DNA issue or the previous campaign fund issues. But the Times chose not to refute them at the time for their political purposes.
This issue about Tamar is somewhat different in that there's a mailer issue which is a tangible thing, BUT the hit piece really serves as a springboard for exaggerated attack soundbites by Shallman. No reputable journalistic would write the story this way.
NOW Shallman's mouthpieces are using this thread as an excuse to make more broad attacks on Tamar to further their own campaign for Essel, and criticize Phil for even letting her have her turn.
I don't know Tamar but looking at this as a matter of a stacked deck against her. Tamar's been replying to this blog, going on shows like Kevin James and Doug Mcintyre which shilled hard for Shallman and Trutanich, but since they haven't HATED on her enough to suit Shallman and Trutanich, they resent her having any say. That's understandable but David Z/Reston's working for them is not.

"Being a good citycouncilmember is not a popularity contest, it's doing whatever it takes to make our city safer and more livable."
Tamar is exactly right about that and NO it's not what "Everyone says," not at all. Most of the current ocuncilmembers and candidates seek to utter the popular statement and do something popular with some segment of their district even if it's not to the benefit of the city or big picture or if it would generate criticism.

First, she misuses city resources by campaigning while on the job as a deputy city attorney.
Now there's a $34,000 expenditure for printing from Tamar Galatzan for School Board this month. $20,000 in consulting fees and other expenses from this same committee.
Only $1,550 expenditures from her City Council campaign.
Hmm... that's odd. Her council campaign is in 4 weeks. The school board race was 2 years ago.
Three mailers targeted to CD 2 voters right when absentee ballots come out!!??
All three mailers attempt to conceal who paid for them as there is no disclaimer as required by California state law.
She uses her taxpayer funded school district office in the return address for the "survey". Presumably school district employees will take these bogus surveys and use them to help her council campaign. This, again, is illegal.
This story has serious legs.

What I don't like about Tamar's LAUSD mailer campaign is that she is saying she has much more to do in the fliers, but if she gets her way she will be walking away and quitting. Why didn't she simply wait another month to send out the fliers to see if she was still going to be on the school board, or not? Because the ballots would have already been sent in by then.

The best thing was the Times story was going to make us look stupid because instead of being about Tamar's shady mailer it was really going to uncover some grand conspiracy from Krekorian.
In the meantime while Team Tamar and Team Essel play games, Paul Krekorian who is showing by far the most sophisticated, mature and focused team of the three is out there doing crazy things like walking precincts, making calls, etc.
Keep the conspiracies coming folks!

Paul has to make every meeting of the assembly, etc. so his travel schedule must not include all that much precinct walking.
The run off will be brutal for him and Chris will smack him every day with the Sacramento con't help itself; why should you think him coming here will help?"...
Once ZD endorses him, that ought to sink him for real.

I have tried to contact all the campaigns by phone, in person, or email. I have spoken personally with most of the candidates. All candidates are invited to submit a 3 paragraph submission to let Mayor Sam readers know why to vote for them.

Obviously you really care about this CD2 race but come on its a little much now and nothing else is getting posted. Where is REd spot? Which city council morons are supporting which candidates?
I hope the FEDS come after Huizar soon. he's turning the community into TJ. He wants a Night Time Farmer's Market in an area that has more illegal vendors then any other part of the city. Cops are going to be taken off the streets soon and crime with vendors is at an all time high. But this stupid bastard wants to help out all the illegals rather then think about the businesses in the area. ASSHOLE!!
Councilmember Huizar Working Toward a ‘Night-time' Farmers' Market. Councilmember Huizar introduced City legislation Friday to institute a pilot program in Boyle Heights to open an evening Farmers' Market.

2:41: Exactly what Shallman did for Nuch against Jack Weiss, while Maeve Reston and David Zahnizer lapped it up. Based on today's hit piece they are ALL including these Times writers following the same M O.
If I worked for Tamar I'd raise bloody hell with the Times editors for not supervising these "journalists" who are supposed to have more integrity than just write up "So and So Criticizes So and So" hit pieces. Otherwise they'll keep doing it, they did over a half dozen on Weiss in about a month. BUT the Times doesn't fairly investigate Shallman clients and if it does write a critical piece, always gives Shallman and his client the last and strongest word. So it doesn't work both ways, it's suspicious. In this case because Essel allegedly has the Mayor's machine working for her it's more complicated but the underlying key factor seems to be Shallman's hold on these writers at the Times.
AND the Op Ed editors like Greene, who's very conservative, used to work for the Weekly like Zahniser and Met News, which is owned by a Republican Party activist and USC alum like Nuch (undergrad) and Greene who also did hit pieces on Weiss for Trutanich. In a strange "interview" cum suck-up session the Times Op Ed writers had with Nuch last week, Greene made fun of Laura Chick and even Maeve Reston for daring to let that high-five photo get into her article. Nuch kept whining and whining about it, and they've been demanding that the Times "make it right" and go back to writing puff pieces about him. So Reston's been getting weird pressure inside the Times.

Can't believe Weiss's people are still whining about Jack. They can't handle the truth. Like when Weiss broke the law accepting laundered campaign cash from Casden and then held an illegal fundraiser with Kelly Candaele who later resigned in disgrace?
I suppose you think it wasn't newsworthy when illegal fundraisers take place and City commissioners resign in the midst of a major pension investigation that leads to the arrest of former LA political operatives.
Now we have an elected school boardmember, propped up by millions of dollars of special interest money raised by the Mayor of Los Angeles who wanted to take over the LAUSD, uses some of that leftover campaign cash to prop up her own faltering city council campaign 2 years later.
She breaks state law by failing to disclose who paid for the mailings that just so happen to land in CD 2 voter households right before her election.
Still not newsworthy? How about the fact that recently she also paid former Villaraigosa Deputy Mayor Kevin Acebo $12,000 from this 2 year old committee for "consulting".
Consulting on what? Her city Council campaign. Since Galatzan has no friends and no ability to raise money she is illegally offloading all of her City campaign expenses into this slush fund.
If this bothers you, 5:35, and you can't take reading about it in the newspapers, Here's an idea. Find less corrupt friends and employers. That way you won't blow a gasket everytime a newspaper writes a story about crooked pols. In the meantime, stick to the Comics.

6:08: You again, same old same old stuff. All answered and dealt with. I know you don't like the facts being exposed because it makes it harder for Shallman to get away with the same dirty stuff over and over, not to mention the significant ethical issue of how he's used the Times. A lack of ethics and using anyone you can, lying to anyone you can, to achieve your purposes, is what characterizes your "side."
Nuch's incompetence and inability to even understand the basics of the constitution, is in evidence all over the media today.
His absurd new proposed injunction that's a sure-fire magnet for civil rights lawsuits against the city, and would undermine everything the LAPD has achieved in its positive image in the communities, is being slammed by everyone with an iota of common sense and fiscal prudence, never mind legal know-how. This is just the latest of his antics. To be expected based on everything that was known about him.
You're damn right people all over are going to keep exposing him and trying to keep him from miring this city into terrible mistakes. THAT is the real job of the honest media. Not helping someone slime their way into office under false pretenses and filing endless bogus "ethics complaints" and screaming "corruption!" at everything just hoping to make it stick.
This time, what we need is the best candidate to win, fair and square, eyes wide open.

Shallman's using his same playbook against Tamar: when your candidate has done nothing in the direction he or she claims to have "solutions" for, attack the opponent who has been out there serving the community and has a record.
Since no one is going to be absolutely perfect and real leaders aren't running popularity contests, keep at them and hope no one notices that your own candidate has done nothing worth voting them in FOR, is running on hot air.

7:20 = Jackass Weiss lover. He uses any and every opportunity to attack Trutanich, regardless of the relevance to the issue. Here, we are looking at the slimy, filthy typical democrat hi-jacker tactics of a graduate of the Jackass Weiss School of Politics.
Tamar Galatzan is precision-cut out of the same cloth as Weiss, Villar and Delgadillo. There's only one difference - Galatzan does not have Ace Smith running her campaign (or should that be ruining her campaign?)
Instead, Galatzan has a moron; 7:20. It's very interesting to understand the mindset of a Galatzan supporter. 7:20 is completely oblivious to facts. One fact is that Galatzan's mailer was a very, very bad idea. Any association with LAUSD is a bad idea. The money Galatzan screwed out of her bloated Villar-financed campaign is a double smack in the face for her.
First, it reminds everyone of Galatzan's support for the hike in our property taxes to finance building failing schools.
Second, it is almost as openly violative of campaign finance law as stunts pulled by Tamar's mentor; Jackass Weiss.
To counter Galatzan's association with the corrupt politician (Jackass), Galatzan's moron tries to belittle Weisshole's ethics violations. Moron 7:20 thinks there was nothing wrong with the illegal fundraiser hosted by disgraced former pensions commissioner Kelly Candaele.
Moron 7:20 also dismisses fundraising with ex-felons as of no consequence either. The problem is that the more Moron 7:20 keeps on trying to shill for Galatzan, the more she tries to minimize unethical conduct, the more she reminds us that the only difference between Weiss and Galatzan is a skirt.
Let's not forget that during the bitterly contested City Attorney election, Galatzan openly supported Jackass. She also didn't care about Jackass's questionable ethics, and that's because it's what she believes in.
Among the many other similarities between Galatzan and Weiss that even Moron 7:20 cannot answer, is her "criminal prosecutor" campaign designation. As a deputy city attorney, Galatzan prosecutes misdemeanor crimes, like traffic tickets and peeing in public. She cannot even claim to be the hero of rape victims because as hard as she tries, she cannot work DNA rape kits into this campaign (BTW, notice how that's been dropped as a dead duck in a post Weisshole era).
Galatzan will probably bring out the big guns as the primary election nears. Taking another leaf out of the Jackass Weiss rap sheet, she'll come out with an endorsement from a lefty environmentalist, she'll accuse Krackpotian of not doing anything about oil spills, and she'll nail E$$el for supporting the NRA.
Galatzan and your moron, give us a break. Go back to locking-up people who put household trash in their green recycling bins. That's all you're good for.
