LAFD Chief Officers Association Endorses Essel

Chris Essel pick up another endorsement. From the press release:

Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Officers Association announced today that it is supporting Christine Essel for City Council, District 2, in the September 22 special election to fill the seat vacated by City Controller Wendy Greuel. Ten candidates will be on the ballot for the District 2 election, which includes the communities of Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Valley Village, Valley Glen, North Hollywood, and Sunland-Tujunga.

“We are proud to announce that Chris Essel is our choice for City Council,” said John Miller, President of the LAFD Chief Officers Association. “Her 30 years of management experience as a business leader is precisely what the City Council needs right now.”

Essel, a longtime Valley resident and former senior vice president of Paramount Pictures, has served the public sector for over a decade as an appointed state and city commissioner. Essel led the California Film Commission for nine years and is current Vice Chair of the State Workforce Investment Board.

“I am extremely glad to have the support of LAFD Chief Officers as we head towards Election Day,” Essel said. “Providing for the public’s safety is the city’s most important responsibility. I look forward to working the chief officers to ensure that we continue to provide outstanding fire protection services despite difficult economic times.”

Can't get the Firefighters so she gets their bosses delivered to her by AV and his cronies.

Typical of her campaign, she is still going no where fast.

Mr. Fire Chief:

And what experience is that? Giving money to developers? Fronting for Special Interests?

E$$el will also get the LA Times endorsement, especially after the hit piece they did on Tamar Galatzan today.

The hit piece was supposed to clear up the confusion over the mailer that Tamar Galatzan, a Senior City Attorney and LAUSD Trustee, sent out. But instead of explaining that Tamar's mailer was an innocent and lawful expenditure using old campaign funds, the Times tried to attack her.

In what I consider to be the most offensive piece of biased reporting ever, the Times said "Galatzan, a lawyer who was elected to the Los Angeles Unified School District board in 2007 after receiving $2.2 million from a campaign committee controlled by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa."

Notice, they call Tamar a "lawyer" not a Senior City Attorney. Why do you think the Times doesn't want you to know that? It's because they deliberately are trying to tarnish Tamar's reputation by twisting the truth.

Then the Times makes a big deal about the amount of money Tamar raised in her bid to become a Trustee on the School Board, as if that bears any relationship to the pifflingly small amount of money she used from that old campaign account to pay for her mailer. It is typical of these biased media moguls to manipulate readers, but this is the so obviously designed to make you think there was something wrong with her mailer.

Finally, the Times has to get the Mayor's name in their hit piece. It's no secret that the Mayor is not popular at the moment because of the shared sacrifice plan that he has to save all the jobs in the city responsibly. So the Times slurs poor Tamar with that too.

I am going to cancel my subscription to the Times unless they publish an apology as well as an unbiased report showing that there was nothing wrong with the mailer. I suggest that you all do the same thing too.

Was this heard out of the mayor's office? "If you want future negotiations to go your way ENDORSE ESSEL, OR ELSE! If you want all the resources you are hoping for, ENDORSE ESSEL, OR ELSE!"

(Better endorse Essel.) Then she'll start talking about cutting back on Firefighter resources per Antonio

If Antonio Villaraigosa has or will endorse her, we need to make sure she does not win. Spread the word that if you do not like the state of affairs in Los Angeles, vote for the opponent of Essel in order to make it a recall by proxy. Let's RECALL Essel and Antonio by defeating Essel just like Measure B and Jack Weiss.

Of course the Times will endorse the establishment candidate. They are not all of a sudden deviate from the norm. Strong reason to vote against Essel the empty skirt.

10:50, I'm sure The Times will get your canceling of your subscription. Looks like you'll be needing a prescription, more than a subscription. So all's well that ends well. And blame it on The Times instead of blaming Tamar Galatzan for the move in the first place.

According to Galatzan's financial report, she paid $12,000 to her City Council campaign consultant and former Villaraigosa Deputy Mayor, Kevin Acebo out of the same account she paid for these mailers. She's basically running her council campaign out of the slush fund leftover from her Mayor V supported School Board campaign committee.

Unlike the Council committee which limits contributions to $500, her slush fund committee has NO LIMITS. She can and has received six-figure contributions to that committee.

In other words, folks, she's cheating. Just what we need on the City Council.

The statement by the Fire Chief Miller sounds suspiciously like it was written by either Villaraigosa or Essel staff.

Old school thug tactics by Antonio.

Will only serve to alienate more voters.

Look for a Big endorsement announecment this week from one of the Grassroots candidates. This will shake some people up a little. We could see a big upset in the this Race. One community candidate is really working hard behind the scenes. This work could pay off with a slot in the run-offs.

The Times just did to Tamar what they did to Jack Weiss - except he got a half dozen hit pieces in quick succession, similar "so and so criticizes" stuff (usually of course Zine who was working for Trutanich and Cooley) without any basis in fact, yet not pointing that out. In fact maybe they ran an explanation refuting the criticism some time later but only well after they intentionally let allegations sit. Again that was the doing of Zahniser and Reston who may as well draw a paycheck from Shallman, who handled both Trutanich and Essel. If I handled any of the other candidates I'd demand fairness from the Times editors who either are complicit or negligent.

Note how the 3 links Reston has to her "story" hit piece on Tamar ALL come from THIS blog, as though it were fact. Lazy-ass reporters have been "reporting" gossip and biased allegations piled on by Tamar's opponents, as they did with Weiss. Yes the gratuitous mentions of Villaraigosa are the same too, showing the real target in disguise. Essel seems to want to benefit from his money but let Shallman do his same dirty tricks using the Times to do his hits.

Essel says she is going to put more cops on the streets by getting them out from behind the desk. What will she do with all the "light duty" officers who can't run or climb a fense because of injuries? Will the department have to hire someone to answer at the front desk?

So, big deal the Firefighters union and the Police union endorse someone. That doesn't mean all the members voted on it and they aren't doing such a hot job looking after them are they!

It's common sense that if there is not money, they may have to do more than take furough days. Where's the money going to come from come September!!!!! Don't vote for anyone who says they have the forumla to fix the budget. It's too late and they are liars!

NO for ESSEL..All anyone needs to know is she's an ANTONIO PERSON AND SO IS TAMAR. I have heard so many times organizations endorsing but unlike us have no clue the baggage. They don't read the stuff we do and don't do their homework. When is the Political Union ooppsss I mean the police union and the Paul Weber goons at the PPL coming out with their endorsement? they do more for the politicans then their own rank and file. They gave Trutanich $750,000 so how much are they giving CD2 candidate and which one?

Seriously Essel is worthless!!
If you don't believe me, come to the Valley Village Candidate forum tomorrow night at Colfax Elementary school.

Essel was a DISASTER at last week's Valley Glen forum. She even got facts WRONG when discussing various Valley issues. SHE CLEARLY IS OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE ISSUES OF OUR DISTRICT!!
THIS WOMAN IS CLEARLY IN THIS FOR HER OWN GAIN, AND HER OWN GAIN ALONE!!
Out of all 10 candidates she is the WORST!
Uneducated and uninformed on our needs.
If anything can make you lose any last shread of respect for this candidate remember this - $200,000 raised and being spent - and she isn't even prepped correctly on Valley issues!!!
Talk about poor judgement and management.
Anyone but Essel!

In response to Chris Essel's claims, Zuma Dogg would like to say, I will fix the budget problem, which will eliminate the need for early retirements, furloughs and the excess money I will save by fixing the budget gap can be used to hire more cops and make the new stage for Cirque De Solei EVEN BIGGER than planned. AND, I will make sure the DWP ECAF is defeated and rates are reduced back down, pre-conservation pricing. And finally, Chris Essel said at the last forum that SHE will have the best constituent services of ANY councilmember. I would like to say, "So will I!"

Except I am an internationally published author on the topic of "Methods for Management of Quality and Productivity" (Quality Management). An idiot can jump up and read a Santa Claus wish list and make empty exhortations that, "They will have the best constituent service."

BUT BY WHAT METHODS? Accepting the most money from special interests and people who owe you favors DOES NOT mean you have a CLUE as to how to accomplish that goal. But maybe Chris can read my synthesis of Deming's 14 Points so she can at least PRETEND to know how to deliver on that claim.

"I appreciate your article ("Interpreting Deming's 14 Points"). I agree with your statements and it is very well done. Sincerely yours, Dr. W. Edwards Deming (Do a Google Search for "Deming.")

"I too, as you may know, am a Deming fan. I think your synthesis of his 14 Points is fabulous." - Anthony Robbins (Consulted Bill Clinton while President)

"That is the finest interpretation of Deming's 14 points I have seen. I especially enjoyed your explanation of the more controversial points." - D. Deward, Publisher/Quality Digest.

David Saltsburg (Zuma Dogg) has over 15 years experience working in the extremely competitive radio and record industry as Program Director, Operations Director and Research Director working for some of the biggest stations in America in Houston, Washington, New York City and Los Angeles.

He was also Director of Charts for Billboard Magazine (BPI) and oversaw the weekly production of five international trade magazines, including the HOT 100 Chart.

Throughout his career, Dave was known as an innovative trailblazer and left the market a buzz for years after his departure.

In his managerial role, he was responsible for the oversight of large staffers with HUGE budgets for hiring, promotion, marketing and research.

You don't go from Columbus, Ohio to Times Square/New York City on word of mouth, without ever sending out a resume unless you are offering something most outstanding that no one else out there seems to be able to accomplish. And this isn't people's public money that isn't theirs that they are playing with. THEY ARE PLAYING WITH THEIR OWN REAL MONEY...AND YOU DON'T TRUST A $100 MILLION RADIO STATION TO SOMEONE WHO ISN'T FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS, which includes being able to work with, manage, inspire workers to do their best and have an uplifting environment in which to work. IF YOU HAVE BAD MORALE, YOU WILL HAVE BAD EVERYTHING ELSE.

So when other candidates jump up there and say, "I'm going to have the best constituent services," remember that is oh so VERY, VERY easy to say.

I can say that I have not only studied quality management (how to actually ACCOMPLISH your goal of constituent services), was published on the topic (including in "Quality Digest"), have been recognized by Deming himself and have implemented this in my radio career that took me from Columbus, Ohio to NYC (#1 Radio Market in the world).

Thank you...goodnight everybody! (ZD runs up aisle like game show host and exits forum.)

WONDERING ABOUT HUIZAR ALUMNI: Word on the street says that an ex-staffer who decided to sing to the feds started the investigation into a $30,000 consulting fee that current City Councilember Jose Huizar collected from a non-profit organization while still a member of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) board. Bad news for Huizar, who has quite a few ex-staffers floating around after just four years in office. One of them is LAUSD board president Monica Garcia, who worked for Huizar before his election to the City Council and later succeeded him on the school board. Garcia has been summoned by a federal grand jury in the matter

I'll tell you why: He's bi-polar and out of control.

Think of him as Phil Spector with a mouth instead of a gun. It goes off and he can't contriol it.

Chris Essel is not a good candidate for the City of LA. Just another old friend of the Mayor's. The City does not need a backpocket friend that looks the other way at corruption. Ask her about Paramount Pictures past business practices. Ask about the fundraisers that were held for Mr. Mayor's 1st failed run for L.A. Ask about how every company that attended was then billed, generating phony revenue that was written off as bad debt.
