Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

Mayor Villaraigosa calls accused murderer Esteban Nunez, son of former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, "A good boy." In the meantime, a blog has posted now deleted photos from what is alleged to be Esteban's MySpace page that do not appear too flattering.

Can't Eli Broad just go away? He wants to donate $30 million to the beleagured Museum of Contemporary Art, all part of what some say is his master plan to convert Downtown LA into one big memorial to himself.  There's nothing wrong with Broad making the donation to MOCA but would it be better served helping the homeless or others struggling in this recession, particularly those who bought one of the homes he's built and couldn't afford it.

Buried deep within a blog post about one of the most annoying members of Congress, Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the speculation that Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti will seek the US House seat of Xavier Becerra who has been tapped to be President-Elect Obama's Trade Rep.  Garcetti says he is "considering it." While some would like to see Garcetti move up and perhaps other would just like to see him leave town I dread who might replace him.  Please no Jackie Goldberg rerun.

Laura Chick's latest audit blasts the management of the City's animal facilities bond program. The City Controller says that "estimates for building costs were not reality based and were exceedingly low." Chick says that design changes, cost escalation and budgetary constraints all contributed to each of the projects being delayed an average of about two years.

The City of Los Angeles has given up on it's idea to run an airport in Palmdale but it still owns 17,000 acres of land in the Antelope Valley location.  Quick! Let's sell the land and use the money to cover the budget deficit before Tom LeBong turns it into a theme park.

It's time to celebrate the holidays! Zuma Dogg teams up with Mayor Sam for this year's holiday party, Friday, at 7:00 p.m., December 12th, at Casa Princesa in Highland Park.  Come by for karaoke, live performances by local artists, Zuma Dogg's Holiday Gift Store, Casa Princesa's Toys for Tots drive, visits by local politicial candidates and a delicious $10 holiday buffet.  Everyone is welcome.

Oh Michael, couldn't agree more about Eli Broad.

His blisfully ignorance reminds me of Mr. Magoo?

He keeps pouring tens of millions and millions of dollars into museums no one cares about when all hell is breaking loose throughout yhe rest of the community.

Why doesn't that A-hole spend the money to REALLY make a difference in the City and communities.

Maybe we can use these expensive museums as Emergency Shelters since Grand Ave Project took the money for those.

Maybe we can use the museums to school kids.

Shame on the dummy Eli Broad for pouring tens of millions of dollars into museums. Eli should be in a museum himself, that dumb relic.

AND MAKE SURE THE CITY STARTS COLLECTING THE $250,000 A MONTH LATE-FEE PENALTY FROM ELI BROAD'S GRAND AVENUE PROJECT. I hope he doesn't mind if the money is used to provide some meaningful services to the community.

The mutt at 7:08 epitomizes what ignorance really means, and why that smelly creature sees it as a social plus to rant vilely in council daily while believing Broad should be publicly stoned for contributing millions of his own money to museums "no one cares about," that "should be emergency shelters" or "to school kids" (hey Fool, he has contributed tens of millions to schools like the downtown Performing Arts High School though I don't think that location works, he did it to assuage PC Latinos).

The sheer smelly stupidity of the mutt is on full display here.

Zuma has a point. Who needs museums anyway? They're just full of old stuff. What civilized nation ever had museums?

It's time for this city to get real.

8:15 am- Don't be ridiculous-Jose Huizar for Congress? Jose is just so very lucky to have been picked up and put into office by the Antonio political machine before that machine's wheels started falling off.

Jose's so unaccomplished that for campaign fodder, he falls back to the "President of the Board of Education for LAUSD" (aka "Capt. of the Titanic") and promoting the change to "A to G" curriculum, the "ALL COLLEGE-BOUND TRACK" curriculum that IGNORES everything else, such as vocational (including technical) education, AND THE ever diminishing physical eduucation requirement (negatively affecting sports programs at schools and personal health, i.e. obesity fostering) and nearly eliminating ELECTIVE CLASSES among the daily courses in the high schools.

All of that is exacerbating, not ameliorating the problem of dropouts. JOSE HUIZAR and his successor MONICA GARCIA continue with the self-delusion that ALL student SHOULD and WILL go to college. They have simply overlayed their own preferences and point of view onto ALL LAUSD students, the one-size-fits-all thinking that does not work. HUIZAR & Co. have fostered an environment in LAUSD of anything but "inviting" for participation, and creating continuing and regular instances of non-success for many students. This all happens while NOT even sprinkling in any opportunities for students to have SUCCESSFUL incidents in their school experiences.

THAT is how the drop out problem continues- removing things to lure or retain the students by having some part of each day be a time of success or productive enjoyment. Having attended LAUSD schools in the "good old days" and then teaching in LAUSD H.S. in the present climate, I saw the impact of changes on the dropout conditions on students.

These are the "at-risk" ones, NOT the others who WILL attend school and excel, rain or shine, day in, day out, whether there's explicit enticement or not. Thes "at-risk" students are the ones that boost the dropout stats so prominently for LAUSD. "A to G" does not work for them and for many.

Jose Huizar's past LAUSD service impresses only the uninformed or easily pursuaded mignons who return these opportunists to office at each election.

Maybe Jose SHOULD go to congress. Maxine Waters does well there, so it can't be that difficult. That's only one of many names that could be mentioned for that poing. There are no NEW ideas presented- but getting rid of JOSE would create a possibility to get better representation in the city and in CD-14. (Of course, there's also the matter of the pay cut to Congress' pay of $170,000 per year from L.A.'s $186,000.00-plus salary.)

No doubt 8:15am hasn't taken their meds. If a council person can't even take care of his own district why given him a larger one? DUH!!!!!

Michael post the story of LA Times reporter who comes to LA only to find it looks just like Mexico.

Judging someone's generocity seems a bit back-handed. I'd like to think that when I feel so passionate about something that I donate money or time, I'm not repremanded. The world is not perfect. And Michael, Zuna Dogg: how do you know Mr. Broad didn't donate anything to homeless shelters or to schools? And, may I ask, how many "tens of millions" did you donate to community services? Lastly, I'm glad to see someone looking out for art since, in an economic downturn, it's usually the first thing to go out the window.

Oh if you spin please complete the full cycle. Broad may have donated to that performing arts school but they spent untold millions of taxpayer dollars on unneeded construction including a ridiculous looking roller coaster type statue hanging over the freeway.

The better way to have gone would be to have spread that money ought for arts education in ALL schools in ALL parts of the city. But that goes against Broad's plan to turn downtown into a masoleum.

It's all well and good if Broad gives a lot of money to charity; the bigger issue is the horrific influence he has over City policy and the misdirection of it.

And one might posit to say that all of Broad's "philanthropy" is one good way to provide ground cover for his nonsense so that the spinners can then say "Look at all the good this nice old man does for LA! Anyone who criticizes him is an asshole!"

I think that's on Saul Alinsky's rules for radicals somewhere.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Huizar lives in Becerra's district. His site says he lives in Boyle Heights, and that's Lucille Roybal-Allard's Congressional district.
