After hearing no comment whatsoever from the Mayor about Drew Street and Cypress Park shootings, I wonder if the Mayor has the guts to actually SAY something about this particular situation. As my husband says, the Mayor doesn't want to piss off his voting base.

The story with the Nunez son is that he was at a party accompanied by friends and there were words exchanged, escalating to a fight that resulted in 3 persons (as I heard the story) stabbed. It happened a month ago in San Diego. After an investigation, the Nunez son with his 2 friends were all arrested last night.

I don't really think this fits in with the drive-by shooting, shopkeeper-extorting, property-stealing, drug-dealing gangsters m.o.

Even though it is a violent crime, I think the comparisons to gang activity, which is an on-going enterprise of design by organized members, would not fit. You would have to include hit-and-run drivers involved in a fatality if so. This is not the same type of criminal conduct with the Drew Street crew and their gang contemporaries.

If all offenders were lumped together, then we could have the Enron and other white-collar types ready to handle in the same way, and maybe more severely since their crimes have far-ranging effects, some of those being ultimately life-threatening in consequences.

The Nunez son may have done the deed, but it's of it's own unique nature; most murders are done as first-time offenses in non-gang situations, and often a surprise to acquaintances don't think that the accused could do the crime. A first time for everything, as in "no priors".

Another aspect so far, is that Fabian is not the one being blamed concerning his parenting role for his son's missteps and bad judgment of his son, BUT Gov. Palin was continually evaluated based on her daughter having unmarried sex and getting pregnant.
People judge based on motivations and goals.

Fabian IS sleeze but it's all the son's situation that he created with his friends. Dad, of course, will step in, as any parent might, and the rest we will see about.

Tony V's only appropriate comment SHOULD be that he recognizes that situation as a family matter that Fabian Sleeze will handle as any concerned parent (or loving parent, as the case may be) would do.

Tony V. is wise (a rare moment) in not saying anything and resisting his compulsion to call a press conference to stammer out some innanity. Good for you, Tony.

You will have enough other opportunities coming up, both actual occurences calling for your words and the fabricated ones your ego generates.

That guy should get the City PR job unless he already has it.

Nunez son is a wannabe gangster no question. Kids who are raised with good morals and ethics don't behave this way. They walk away from confrontations. Nunez raised his son to be a gangster just like all the Mafioso politicans.

The Mayor has made it clear whose side he is on when he kept silent after the Drew Street and Cypress Park shootings. And if he makes a statement now about Nunez's son, it confirms what we already know; Tony Villar cares only for those opportunities that can further his career and less (if any at all) for his constituents.

San Diego police are investigating whether Esteban Armando Nuñez, the 19-year-old son of former California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez, and three other suspects in the fatal stabbing death of a college student had any ties to gangs.

"There's a possibility it could be gang-related," said Police Capt. Jim Collins, the head of the city's homicide division.

Wanna bet Tony Villar says NOTHING about this one too?
