Drink up, Janice! Eau de Toilet Water

Of all the bad ideas that Janice Hahn has come up with, forking over millions of dollars to gang members is no longer the worst one.

Council-kook Janice Hahn spent a recent half hour on Channel 35 espousing the merits of recycling water, including waste water. "By the time the water is recycled," Hahn says, "It's cleaner than when it started."

No shit, Janice!

Just to be sure, though, perhaps the entire Hahn family (and all City Council families) will come into the John Ferraro Chambers at City Hall, along with Nick Patsouras and H. Moneymaker-Waterwaster Nahai, and the couple formerly known as Mirthala & Antonio, to drink a few glasses to show us how yummie and refreshing it is. And we can have Mayor Sam & Zuma Dogg ensure that it came out of the recycled water tap.

JANICE HAHN: "This is delicious Tom LeBonge waste! Tom? Did you order the consommé yesterday?"

TOM LeBONGE: "No, Janice. It was corn chowder. But you can hardly tell the corn chunks from the other chunks! We've got the best DWP in the nation! Let's give them another raise!"

Maybe we could distribute Charmin instead of napkins.

I agree. We need clean water, but this idea of applying science as an answer is stupid. Why can't we use something more practical to solve social and environmental problems, like magic?

Science is not the answer! What we need are solutions that uneducated people can understand. Cleaning waste water sounds, I don't know . . . . icky and probalby involves more details than an American educated person can handle.

Let's throw away these outlandish "scientific" ideas and opt for more practical ones based on concepts of intelligent design.

Hi 11:17am,

I don't know if you're just being silly, or if you agree.

Either way, de-salinization of ocean~rain water would be preferred over sissie~poopie water.

Especially on tostada day.

Love, Haikula.

The problem is that the cost of desalinization is extremely high. This possibility has been discussed for decades. It is used in places, such as Israel, where there are few other choices. If the public is willing to pay the higher costs, they should make their opinions known.

Didn't the mayor just have a press conference in the valley a few weeks ago with DWP and they all drank recycled water?

Don't they do this in Orange County?

Get ready for more purple pipes in Los Angeles. DWP GM Nahai puts desalinization at the bottom of his wish list.

The water going through DWP purple pipes is recycled. Check out the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant in the San Fernando Valley. Public
Works Bureau of Sanitation plan to expand to 100 million gallons per day of recycled water. Also check out Department of Public Works and DWP Integrated Resources Plan.

Thank you meterman. It's hilarious how stupid these people are. And they're supposed to be the "informed" ones in the city! Scary stuff.

1:33, Your statement that the cost of desalinization is extremely high is true if the plant is a stand alone. However, the costs of desalinization is rapidly decreasing, especially in the areas of reverse osmosis.

Currently, Saudi Arabia has coupled their desalinization plants with energy producing plants, which drives the cost of producing fresh water down.

I've often questioned why we can't do the same in this country - we could do it with solar or wind-driven energy production plants, even going so far as to use passive solar heating for these plants.

We Americans are known for putting ideas into production - what could possibly stop us from lowering the costs of desalinization even further if we clustered our plants around energy production as do the Saudis, and abandoning the toilet-to-tap idea?

Desal and reclaimed water prices come way down especially when coupled with electrical generation power plants. When you combine Nuke-desal the price gets even better. But most of are afraid of nukes, oh, how backward those French folks.

Remember all water is recycled, or did you forget that water cycle poster from Jr. high school life science classes? Some of it just a little quicker with the help of science. Gee, what a concept. Or did you go through the LAUSD system and miss that lesson somewhere. It’s so sad that the greater population, much less those who seem hell bent on expressing there opinions, are so vacuous of a scientific education.
Let's make all of our decisions based on how we feel rather than using a little logic and education.

Just a thought- yes, there is some thougth here- Is JANICE HAHN doing the promo on water now because, in case this stuff is not all it is said to be, she is considered the most expendable of the city councel brain trust? On that, maybe they draw straws on such things.

Or is it that she is the most resistant to being affected by chemicals, reason, embarrassment, recall?
