Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Wednesday

Villaraigosa political operative Ace Smith (who I was once accused of being by the way) is taking over the campaign to gain passage of the half percent Westside transit tax scam favored by the Mayor. We'll say it over and over again, you can't build enough trains to solve the problems in LA let alone the Westside and this is a massive pork laden boondoggle. As most of the County is opposed to this measure they'll pay for and won't benefit from, Smith will have his work cut out for him. And he's further sunk should Governor Schwarzenegger place his one own one percent sales tax on the ballot.

Workers at Los Angeles' animal shelters packed Tuesday's City Council meeting to demand the firing of Department of Animal Services General Manager Ed Boks. Among other issues, the employees said the City's shelters are overcrowded and that animals do not receive proper food or medical attention. City Councilman Dennis Zine said he would schedule a hearing on the issue in his Personnel Committee. In the meantime, there is one example of how the private sector could do a far better job of running animal shelters than the City.

Los Angeles-based publisher Rich Perelman is leading the battle Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks' plan to criminalize smoking in Los Angeles. Perelman says "If Councilman Parks has his way, (LAPD) officers will be able to cite you, or even arrest you, for using a legal product: tobacco." Perelman has created a website dedicated for his effort, www.WeAreNotCriminals.com.

It took being embarrassed when he went on a junket to Israel, but Mayor Villaraigosa has finally done something about illegal dumping in South Los Angeles. A new task force will identify areas for clean-up, but first they had to get a $500,000 grant from the state to do what they should have been doing all along.

Local Republicans are invited to step up and make the difference for the McCain-Palin campaign. The LA County GOP is sponsoring "Super Sarah Saturday" at a location near you.

Proof positive that Higglesby doesn't know what the inside of City Council chambers looks like. Fifty or sixty animal shelter employees can't come close to filling the joint. Certainly not when Zuma Dogg's ego fills up the more than half the room all by itself.

They can make us wonder what they were doing on taxpayer time, however. And since when should these inmates be running the asylum? Contrary to their own BS arguments, THEY are the ones screwing up the shelters, committing all the bad acts and trying to blame it on management.

Would it be okay for angry blog repliers to depose Higglesby and take over Mayor Sam just because we disagree with him sometimes, and he with us? No, if we don't like it here, we can just move on, or not show up in the first place! If the workers don't like their jobs or their boss, they shouldn't let the door hit them on the way out.

One good thing about the idea of privatizing the shelters would be that the idiots in the animal activist community, who normally hate the workers but have formed an unholy alliance with them for the moment in their mutual dislike for department management, wouldn't have anybody in City Hall to whine to any more. The private sector operators would just tell them to piss off and all would be right with the world. That would be progress.

If the City Council and the Mayor fall for this crap, it will be more of their typical blundering, kissing the fanny of the unions.

Wonder if MAV is thinking that Gordon Stuckey is looking pretty good right about now and that he never should have listened to the animal crazies who wanted him fired way back when? Would he listen to the unions this time? Anybody setting odds?

Can't wait for Saturday Night Live to bring back Judy Tenuta to play Sarah Palin. Her voice is a dead ringer for Palin - even her mannerisms.

5:34=Jim Bickhart, Ed Boks' babysitter.

Only Jim would be up at this hour and sitting on MayorSam.

Isn't it interesting that this idiot thinks that a private blog is the same as a public shelter?

Only Jim Bickhart, who is directly responsible for Boks, would write that.

Sarah Palin is extremely good looking. Sounds like you're just a wee bit threatened by a great looking woman with brains, power, influence and a large family.

Got that valley dull?

5:59 Anonymous is right on. Stuckey made real progress in reducing euthanasia, and increasing adoptions and neutering and spaying, but Antonio made a very cynical deal with the activists to fire Stuckey so they wouldn't picket the mayor's mansion. All Antonio cares about is himself.

I'm not an animal fanatic although I have a pet, and I know some of those animal nuts are nuts.

Still, Boks seems like an idiot, starting with his wanting a fundraiser at Hooters to how he really bungled dept. hiring, getting chewed out in Council more than I've ever seen anyone. And when he reads his speeches he sounds stupid and so scripted, filled with himself.

If you really believe that privatizing the animal shelters is a good idea, and it just might be, why don't you submit a motion to your NC and start a movement?

11:00 = Daniel Guss, the only guy in town besides animal nuts who calls everyone Bickhart whenever a posts appears that is not anti Boks. Who are you people? It's surreal, as if you have your own world of animal whacks. Are you one of those fake meat eaters? I hate those people who refuse to touch meat and then eat tofurkey. I think you're all psychotic. These are the people that I only learned about from Mayor Sam's blog. I've absorbed too much in my own opinion. I would have never known any of them before and I would have lived my life just fine.

I hope none of you nuts are voting for Palin-the animal-killing, meat-lovin' candidate for VP. (explanation in case you haven't heard of her) I bet she bowls a good game. Scores 300 a game, Ima guessin'.

That would be comparing shit with shit. Stuckey was deceptive. He invoked gag orders on staff that hindered fair government/public practices. He operated on a divide a conquer approach that caused the widening of gaps where transparency, clarification and open communication was needed.
He and his field service commander intentionally provided misinformation to employees about commission actions that caused, almost, irreparable harm to the function and implementation of the policies.

Stuckey didn't care about staff. He just pretended he did. He'd sacrifice anyone to fulfill his agenda of staying employed. The man was a liar and a back stabber. He back stabbed staff too, especially female employees. Council was wrong to pay him one cent. The mayor was right to fire his ass.

Boks is bad in a different way.

Ergo comparing shit with shit.

7:32 is absolute proof. You can't please any of those ridiculous animal crazies. If the mayor were to give in to the LUNATICS again, like Hahn did before Villaraigosa did, he would be as crazy as them. They deserve nothing, especially not the head of a GM that only a small, small, small amount of the population know who he is, hate him and would base a vote on.

September 11, 2008 1:37 AM-That's interesting. I am an employee. I guess trying to protect the public's safety and caring for animals makes me an animal crazy. Have it your way.

I'm one of those who saw through Stuckey. I don't need to see through Boks. He does a pretty good job at showing us all on his own.
