Antonio Villaraigosa, King of Trash

When the word came out that poor neighborhoods in Los Angeles became dumping grounds for trash, where was our Mayor? On a junket in Israel.

A report on the problem issued Tuesday defended city officials despite growing mountains of smelly, rotting trash sitting for weeks amongst residents who have little power or influence to do anything about it.  The Mayor's point person on the issue, Board of Public Works President Cynthia Ruiz had the nerve to say "We have been doing a fabulous job," despite towering piles of filth and a dysfunctional patchwork of city departments that won't communicate with one another and get little done.

While poor people sit amongst the stench what does the Mayor do? He trolls for dough with people who would never have to worry about this kind of problem

And it's not just trash. Traffic. Crime.  The economy.  Taxes.  Cuts in City services. Hell they've raised your trash taxes twice already and want to do it again!  We won't get into his personal ethics when it comes to cheating on his wife or fundraising that reeks.  Are you better off today than you were four years ago?

If you say no, you can thank the King of Trash!

Higby, when do you ever give a damn about "the poor who can't do anything about it," when it comes to ANY issue? Like, never? Education, taking care of their homes and kids, birth control, illegal gangmembers, and just plain not coming here illegally in the first place -- you're all about blaming them, not society.

Or, have you gone over to Alarcon/ Reyes' team, the "blame society because we can't help being poor and too stupid to call for free trash pickup" side?

No, I didn't think so. (Third world pigs, is more the sentiment around here.) It must just be convenient since you can't think up anything else. Like, trash was all dumped the week he was in Israel, not for years. What ticks me off, is that our trash fees have to go to cleaning up that friggin' mess, instead of toward the cops we were promised. Except that trash workers need police escort to go to some of those areas to get that trash, the Times says.

The problem of construction companies, builders and renovators not wanting to pay to haul off the stuff is a big culprit. Plus, buildings over 4 units don't contract with the city, and if they don't provide adequate dumpsters, tenants don't call the city and dump in the alleys. Investigate and fine the building owenrs, make sure they pay for their own trash.

And what difference did it make that the Mayor was out of town, or out of the country, at the moment when some newspaper decided to write about an issue that's been an issue for months, or perhaps years? None. His response was the same - to publicly call on the Bureau of Sanitation to deal with it.

I'm sure he'd go out there and do it himself, but you've got him so busy personally cleaning everyone's toilets that he doesn't have time.

I bet Higby's never been to South L.A. How could he claim to speak for its residents?

One thing not mentioned in the blog- this isn't trash that comes from nowhere. It's dumped by loser small time contractors and anyone with a pickup truck that is hauling construction debris and garage junk in the area. Rather than taking it to a landfill, they dump it in the alleys at night. Not much the City can do except have sting operations in the se area, which itself is costly. the way the article is written, it makes it appear that regular trash pickups are not being done by the City, and this is just over flow. It's low class behavior by unlicensed contractors...and the people in the neighborhood looking for a free way to rid of junk.

I'm with Ron Kaye. Tons of us are going cause we're so fed up with the bullshit in this city with the idiot city council members. We need to show those losers we care about LA cause they don't. Cynthia Ruiz is making over $100,000 and all she does is get bad hair dye jobs.

TAXES TAXES TAXES that's all the politicans can think of to fix the problems because they don't have leadership or brains to do it.
Phone tax, trash tax, DWP rate hike, now they want gang tax HELL NO NO NO NO NO NO
and a MTA tax. Midget dumbass Mayor hasn't done shit for this city so he needs to GO

Amazing the Mayor is showing his corruptness by having all these fundraisers yet not one city council member has the nerve to speak out. THe city council men have no balls or manhood to say anything and the women are a joke. Only in LA can you have a Mayor blatantly giving political paybacks to people holding fundraisers for him and no city council members with the guts to say a word. Can we all say DICTATOR???

LAX Hilton Sues City
By HOWARD FINE
Los Angeles Business Journal
The Los Angeles Airport Hilton Hotel has sued the city of Los Angeles challenging the legality of the city’s living wage ordinance that targets airport area hotels.

In the action filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, the LAX Hilton, also seeks an injunction preventing the city from enforcing the ordinance, which goes into effect this week.

An earlier suit filed by 12 airport area hotels seeking to block the ordinance on procedural grounds was rejected by the California Supreme Court in April. The new Hilton lawsuit goes straight to the central issue of the dispute, challenging the city’s authority to impose a living wage on companies that have no direct contractual relationship with the city.

“The City of Los Angeles does not have the right to impose a wage law that only affects a dozen hotels on one street that have no financial or contractual relationship with the city,” Grant Coonley, LAX Hilton’s general manager, said in a statement. “The most basic review shows this law is unfair.”

Poor choice of words for Cynthia Ruiz to say they are "doing a FABULOUS job." This is the sort of language that tends to reinforce residents' concerns that their complaints are falling on ears that are either deaf or not interested.....

Remember, those of you who voted for and supported Villaraigosa the first time for mayor (And that includes YOU, Higby).

He only reported TWO accomplishments while a city councilmember for two full years.

80 FAKE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCHES

and the lesser known, but more appropriate here:

"community cleanups involving THOUSANDS of volunteers"

where he pushed a broom for a few minutes on camera, before scurrying off to another fundraiser. And now, like a dog returning . . .

This was all his campaign literature and TV ads ever even bothered to drum up to show he was "worthy" of a promotion from part-time councilman.

And you BOUGHT it!

You got NOTHING to complain about now. You created the midget monster and condoned his prior bad acts.

Shut up and take it like a man!

Cythina Ruiz, the woman with the bad hair dye jobs, is another outstanding member of the infamous Southwest Society "created" by Antonio to make it look like the Autry Museum has some support for its plan to rip off the Southwest Museum's collection for its own self-aggrandizement. FABULOUS job Cynthia! Thanks to trash people like you, the City Council may "pretend" you represent the community on the Southwest Museum issue instead of the more than 50 REAL community leaders who were LIED TO by the Mayor and Councilmember Huizar. Time to take out the trash at City Hall.

Will someone please explain why the hell the Mayor is tied at the hip to the Chief? Never in the history of this city has a Mayor intruded on everyone's press conf. especially the Chief's. Doesn't it seem odd the Mayor is at every single press conf. the Chief has? Since when did the LA Mayor become the second Chief of the city? Officers can't stand him especially when something happens the Mayor is the first person to criticize the officers like he has the last couple of days.

King of Trash, huh?

What's that make Mayor Sam - one of the media points that crowned him "king" in the first place.

Trash?

If only Antonio had tried as hard the last 3 years to remake his image as a do-nothing womanizer, as AV-endorsing Mayor Sam has in pretending he's some rational right-winger, three years after pumping Villaraigosa as the best choice for mayor.

It wouldn't have mattered if Villaraigosa was in Israel or LA he didn't take care of the trash problem and he did nothing before the news caught him.

SHAME on you idiots who voted shortass into office!! You were SO enthralled with the idea of electing the first hispanic mayor in 100+ years, that you all overlooked the issue of quality ... never underestimate the (lack of) intelligence of L.A.'s voters.
