Saturday Burro Droppings

Laura Chick's audit of the cost overruns and schedule delays of construction of the new Los Angeles Police Department headquarters points a finger at the City's Bureau of Engineering. However, Brady Westwater sticks up for that agency which actually has a history of bringing projects in ahead of schedule and under budget. Westwater points the blame at the usual LA politics we have all come to know and love, the politics that lead to a lack of leadership in developing a real plan for the Civic Center, ultimately leading to delays, price increases and missed opportunities.

Rick Orlov muses that the Woodland Hills Neighborhood Council is one that "works." Among his criteria for success include that the Council is frequently "ripping down illegal signs" and "battling over street-sweeping days." Wonder what Zuma Dogg's Dr. Deming analysis would be.

Earlier in the week it was disclosed that UCLA Medical Center employees were peeking at the private medical files of celebrities such as Britney Spears, Farrah Fawcett and Governor Schwarzenegger. Fox News reports that UCLA allegedly knew that such snooping has been going on for over a decade.

If you plan to go into business repairing BMWs or Mercedes, you'll have to find another place to learn how to read the repair manuals. USC is dropping it's German language program. According to a report in the LA Times, the University is "now adding resources to its programs in Asian and Middle Eastern languages and cultures."

Does anyone else think that Christine Devine is still one of the best and hottest news anchors in Los Angeles? I have for the last 20 years. I always wondered how old she is; I'm guessing considering she started her career in the late 80s she must be around my age. If she's single and likes old, dead Republican Mayors, she can send props to mayorsamyorty@aol.com.

Kim Myles who won first place on one of those home improvement reality shows now has her own show and will give you a home makeover. Kim, who has been called "the Black Martha Stewart" will be hosting "Myles of Styles" on HGTV.

Christine Devine has a heart of gold. She does so much for kids with her asociation with a foundation for underpriliged kids. She is always accommodating when asked to host events like the many she does for LAPD. More anchors should be like her

Villaraigosa plans to cut 767 L.A. jobs

This is hilarious. This city is in the worst shape ever as Antonio is mayor. He plans to raise more taxes cause he and the losers on council have no clue how to balance the budget they screwed up.

A conversation between the "Z-Man" and "Tony Villar".

It's Friday afternoon, the TV cameras are rolling and Antonio Villaraigosa has some bad news. His budget plan includes cutting 767 city jobs.

Which jobs? Excellent question. Here's our own David Zahniser trying to get a straight answer.

Zahniser: Which (city) department will see the greatest number of reductions in positions?

Villaraigosa: I'll share that next week.

Zahniser: Do you know now?

Villaraigosa: I know now.

Zahniser: Then why not tell us?

Villaraigosa: Because I'm going to tell you next week -- I want you to come back.

Seems that's how things are done at City Hall - two Villaraigosa press conferences for the price of one.

I heard the Mayor and City Council were not able to balance the budget of a Girl Scout Troop cookie sale.

An independent $750,000.00 accounting firm has been hired to see what happened to the $325.00 worth of cookies, sold by the 12 girls in the troop.

The Mayor and City Council will be dismissing 11 of the girl scouts,
to balance the troop's budget.

I am a city employee who feels that instead of spending $40 million dollars to enlarge the elephant exhibit at the Los Angeles Zoo, we should take that money to help close the deficit. Elephants don't belong in zoos, and Tom LeBonge cares more for a photo op than our four-legged friends. And the Mayor cares more about his ego than two-legged city employees. I hope he is a one-termer, and I hope whomever get fired stands in front of city hall with a picket sign exclaiming how inept he is.

Why are employers who don't check the status of their workers more important than City employees? Can the Mayor write a letter to himself telling him to layoff firing city employees because it is "not good for the economy?" What a jerkface.

Richard Riordan = 8 years of leadership at $8.00 of total salary before taxes.

The item on having to go elsewhere to learn German at USC is incorrect. They will no longer have any new German majors or minors, and the German language will not be a separate department anymore, but will be absorbed by the Linguistics Dept.

And if you're going to SC and have a BMW or Mercedes, (a.) you don't need to learn anything about reading the German language manual because, (b.) you should be able to afford a tech to handle the repairs.

I think the budget has been getting progressively screwed up for a long time and Villaraigosa isn't to blame.

Blame the unions. They're the ones who don't live on budgets. The council members all share the blame. Some for the current budget crisis and some for the future budget crisis.

I don't see any news items on city council members having to cut 8 or 10 percent of THEIR budgets a la the rest of the city departments. Shouldn't what's good for the goose be good for the gutless?

Mayor Sam,
Cool of you to mention Deming regarding the NC system.

Deming may have been able to help the Japanese rebuild Japan after a World War...but I doubt even HE could make a dent in the NC system. (See mean-spirited bureaucracy, racketeering and corruption.) Can't fix the system unless those at the top want to fix the system. And let's face it...Villaraiogsa ain't interested in community feedback or a system that he has to be help accountable to.

Zuma, you attention whore; go back to your blog.

We are all not missing you a lot.

Take Deming with you, please.

I agree 4:32. Those council members need to give up that money. They are out of their minds. That is how this city got out of control. Those control freaks. They need to give back the money.

I disagree with the Zuma whiner.

We Love Zuma!
