Bad News for Bitter Bernie

** UPDATE: Click here for our correction on this story. **

City Councilman Bernard Parks - who is running against State Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas to replace retiring County Supervisor Yvonne Burke - is apparently trying to distance himself from yet another minister alleged to have made anti-Jewish comments.

Parks was at an event to honor Jewish philanthropist Daphna Ziman at which the Reverend Eric Lee, President and CEO of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Greater Los Angeles, allegedly made a series of anti-Semitic remarks.

According to local blogs, On Wednesday Lee denied and then a da y later apologized for his words. Thursday, the Councilman's son and Chief of Staff, Bernard, Jr., told the questionable Pulitzer Prize winner of record that Bitter Bernie left the event prior to Lee's speech and that the 8th District Councilman was to "meet" with Lee later that day.

In other bad news for Bitter Bernie, the California Majority Report says that Ridley-Thomas received the endorsement of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party Thursday.

No worries for future County Supervisor PArks.

The former Chief is clearly the fundraising king, his name recognition and respect within the voters is very high.

Those of us in the Jewish community have always loved the future Supervisor.

Supervisor Parks, move forward, avoid these distractions.

2:19: Bernie Jr, stop spinning -- you sound about as sincere and Jewish as Roscoe's Chicken and waffles and Cajun-fried shrimp.

Some of the Jewish community is fed up with Obama right now, and he's the only one who was booed at the Wilshire Theatre last month, in its fundraiser for the children of Sderot. Obama equivocated between the Palestinian "victims of violence" and the kids in this Jewish town. Now, everyone KNOWS those are his views, and he's a lot more influenced by anti-Semites like Rev. Wright and HIS hero Louis Farrakhan, than he wants to admit. And the Palestinians see in him their "great hope," a man with dark skin like themselves -- which has its pluses and minuses, I'll admit.

BUT it was stupid, stupid to say what he did to a group of Jews raising money for kids traumatized by daily shellings by Palestinians, right after a Palestinian walked into a Jewish school and killed 7 kids, no less. Educate yourself, Bernie, Jr.

I think Feuer comes back if Zev leaves.

Daphna Ziman is female?

I thought she was a drag queen.

Wow. Now I know where all of Arden Realty's profits went.

Plastic surgery.

She looks like Michael Jackson, with a blonde wig on, and collagen lips.

Bernie is the EIGHTH district councilman, not the 10th.

Ridley Thomas wins, Parks stays on Council, Bass stays in the Assembly.

The only race with be for Ridley's senate seat. Every pol in S. LA will jump in.

Oh, and Zev hasn't a prayer for Mayor. He does not have the cojones to run, and would not win anyway.

People in 2008, with $4 gas, will NEVER forgive Zev for killing the subway.

What's wrong with being stuck in 1979, 1:51? After all, that's the same year Darryl Gates implemented SP40 and the pro-illegal lobby keeps harping on that as akin to an etched- in-stone constitutional Amendment.

OF course, that was 30 years ago, when Feuer was probably in college and there were very fews Hispanics in L A., whites were a majority, Jews were still a minority, and Hispanics could arguably be seen to need special protections from fear of the cops.

NOW it's almost 30 years later, Hispanics are half the population L A, their kids 2/3 the youth, 2/3 of LAUSD, 2/3 of life births (on Medi-Cal or uninsured, of course), and many of these are illegal or the "anchor babies" or recently arrived illegals.

1/4 to 1/3 the prisoners are illegal Hispanics (with our resident cholo apologist pointing out the LaEME "are American Citizens," proudly), 2/3 of the outstanding arrest warrants are for illegals, and some 80% of gang members of "old boy networks" like 18th St., Florencia 13, MS13, even Ramona Gardens/ Big Hazard, are illegal.

Nice job, Big Hazard, catching up with the Big Boys, especially sending women out to do a man's work of murder and mayhem! The two killed trying to rob the cabbie and the 30-year old murderer of the young Latina driving to work at LAX were Ramona Gardens chicks! Maybe you'll get a plaque from NOW!

So a whole lot of things need to change from the days of 1979, not just Mike Feuer's hair! Go, Zine!
(If the Council can't pass his motion, there's talk that the NC's can use their new ability to put forth motions to do so -- there's virtually unanimous consent for Jamiel's Law across the city, across socio-economic and ethnic lines.)

I despise Parks and I am so happy that the Democratic Party endorsed Ridley-Thomas.

I like the sound of Supervisor Ridley-Thomas.

Parks does a lousy job as Councilman and therefore, we have no assurance he'll be a better Supervisor.

Goody for you, you brainless twit. We were wondering which girl you liked the best.

I like the idea of Feuer a lot. I hope Zev leaves just for that reason.

Rosendahl as Supervisor?? That's hilarious and will never happen. He's pretty dumb. Much more than I ever thought he would be when he got elected.

I am Jewish. I am voting for Obama. Never, never for the cold, calculating, manipulative Billarys.

And Antonio will be reelected as mayor, perhaps running virtually unopposed.

Karen Bass has already gone on record that she will not run for either the City Council (in the event Parks wins) or the state Senate (in the event Ridley-Thomas wins). That she has pledged to remain in the Assembly -- as Speaker -- until she is termed out in 2010....

I'll take Ridley Thomas over Parks though Parks will get the job. Rosendahl is a blowhard doing nothing for his constituents, and I'm hoping that all of those canned city employees will rise up against Villaraigosa and make him a one-term loser. I would vote for anybody over him. He should be cutting into that untouchable LAPD and LAFD budget to help close the budget deficit, but he'd rather pretend to be a law and order guy. The police and fire have over 70 percent of the entire city budget and they're not being asked to cut a thing. Just add more cops and cut every other department to pay for it. Bastards.

You guys should stop mentally masturbating here on the blog.

Zev is NOT running for Mayor. He knows Antonio is a shoo-in. And yes, he did kill the subway, or rather help. Waxman killed the subway.

I'd rather have Maxine Waters and Yvonne Braithwaite Burke endorse me than the feckless LA County Democratic Party. That's why Bernie will win. The unions have already cut Mark down to $250,000.00 that's nothing compared to what they could do if they wanted to. Make that "...if Maria Elena wanted to".

Rod Wright will run for whatever is open; he might even win this one...

Mike Feuer has a very limited constituency, and he does nothing to make friends; he'll have to change his ways (and his hair)to get elected to a Westside seat for anything other than his present job.

Obama is, as we have all known, just not ready for prime time yet. He is quick to gaffe and slow to cut his losses, ala Kerry and the Swifties.

It is McCain's to lose as of now.

LAPD should at least do its job and get rid of illegal gangbangers like they're supposed to -- they're 80% of the worst gangs like MS/ Florencia 13, 18th St., a good number of Hazard Grande, etc. About 1/3 of the jail population, too. (Don't worry, plenty of other Hispanic gangbangers left for those of you who'll miss them!) Lots of cops want to get rid of illegal gangbangers, so it's just the top brass that's opposed.

Tim Rutten's op ed today comes up with all kinds of b. s. reasons the cops can't check for illegal status, like that only a few gang cops are allowed to look at gang lists, and cop cars aren't equipped to do checks. (Why can't they run a perp's info through a central data base, they don't have to see all the names just get feedback on their suspects?)

LAPD and other depts. like Culver City, who nabbed Espinoza last, should be sharing this info, along with feds, Sheriffs and ICE. Baca has been asking for this data-base and sharing for a long time, and ICE says they missed Espinoza's illegal status because he just plain lied to them about where he was born. How stupid is that!

FIX these problems, don't use them as excuses to do nothing. Wrong again, Tim Rutten! (He's attacked the rank and file for worries about putting their own personal data into central files, saying if they're not crooks, what do they have to fear. But it's NOT okay to put illegal gangbangers into central databases, to save lives?)

I hope the NC's use their new ability to open Council Files to help the Shaws if the city won't. Maybe ST can start it (take that for HD!), there's lots of support.

Dennis Zine's motion clarifies SP 40. LAPD will report illegals arrested to Immigration Agents, like SP40 always required them to do.

The Shaws said they wanted to target the 18 Street gang. Zine clarifies that LAPD always could turn any gang it arrests to INS. If it was in doubt, which it shouldn't have been, Zine makes it clear.

Jamiel's Law is over! Zine's motion will overtake it. Good riddance to Wacko and the Bloggin' Bigots, and hopefully the racial dissention of this atrocious episode leaves us very soon, too.

Mark Ridley Thomas has done more for the community then Bitter Bernie in his own district. Bernie's people call him a coconut and he only hangs with developers. Look at how bad his 8th district still looks. Not only that but he was the worst chief in the history of LAPD. He covered up Rampart and some of the cops busted were dating his daughter. Red the book Labyrinth.

I think it's Obama's to lose, not McCain's. You must underestimate the damage that the Bush Crime Family has wreaked on this country and the world. If a monkey declared his intent to run as a democrat, he'd be elected over any Republican in these times. B. The burden of proof should be on the arrestee to prove his/her name when arrested. That's absurd that you can lie and then get off the hook. Throw them into a holding cell until they can prove without a doubt who they are.
