Zuma Dogg Goes Head To Head With Zev at Board of Supervisors Meeting But They Come Together Over 2-1-1 Marketing Campaign

With the Spring Street "Fraud, Waste & Abuse Factory" shut down for two weeks while Los Angeles City Council gives the public coffers and high-density approvals (around not enough infrastructure) a break; Big ZD decided to take the day off and head downtown and take in a few other tourist attractions. Like the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting that I have always been meaning to get to.

It was a very enjoyable experience, and although I know as soon as I say something nice about the Board, people will remind me how City Council are small potatoes compared to the fraud, waste and abuse that occurs at the BOS level.

One of ZD's public comment amigos from City Hall, who also monitors most of the BOS meetings goes as far to say, "If they are 'for it', that means it is doomed and they are getting their piece of the pie. If they are 'against it', that means there's nothing in it for them."

So ZD isn't spun by Zev and the Boards' charm; but he was happy to hear 'em (especially Gloria Molina) HAMMER a few folks in the non-profit service provider arena over lack of accountability and lack of quality services being provided for the money. (It was as though ZD was grilling someone at his most combative; however hypocritical their critics will say the scrutinous line of questioning was.)

And although Chairman Zev Yaroslavsky and ZD hit it off about as well as Zev and Antonio at an MTA meeting (see TV broadcast Wed 8/22 at 10pm KLCS according to KCLS website), after we marked our territory, the rest of the meeting was not only a pleasure, but it felt as though Gloria Molina was actually rushing to take notes over one of the agenda items I was discussing. (I could be wrong, but it appeared as though she was writing down some slogans I was presenting for the County's 2-1-1 telephone service that they are reluctantly paying $200,000 to a marketing strategy firm to help them get a campaign out there to the public.

And I already took the opportunity to use some of my own advice to the BOS, but announcing the 2-1-1 service on K-TALK 1150 AM with Mark "Mr. K" Germain in the 6pm hour. Again, click "READ MORE". AND OH YEAH...GREAT TO SEE BILL "THE FUJ" FUJYIOKA AT THE MEETING IN HIS NEW BIGSHOT POSITON! Bill, hope to see you again, soon.

Re: LA County 2-1-1 Marketing Plan
Dt: 08/21/07

Authorize CEO to prepare and execute...(up to) $250,000 to allow 2-1-1 LA County to engage an outside firm for its public information and marketing efforts, contingent on CEO approval of the selected firm, marketing plan and budget.

Authorize CEO to oversee the implementation and expansion of the County marketing of 2-1-1, though the identified low and no-cost measures, in consulatation with an internal County team of experts convened by the CEO.

CLICK READ MORE, CAUSE ALTHOUGH ZD AND ZEV HAD A ROCKY START, Zev obviously listens and is open, because he said on camera, "It's like Zuma said" (to the ideas I mention below). ZD likes the fact that the guy can be no non-sense and go head to head with ZD one minute, but recognize the input the next minute!

[Huh...huh...huh...WHY CAN'T CITY COUNCIL BE MORE ACCEPTING OF PUBLIC INPUT LIKE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS?]

ALLOW MYSELF TO INTRODUCE MYSELF...

My name's Zuma Dogg. And although I know the County has to spend the money for the marketing effort that Zev mentioned wasn't enough money to really accomplish anything and is just a waste, perhaps the people can provide a few marketing campaign ideas that will rise to the top of any focus group.

Here are some ideas presented on camera by the public. (That I noticed Molina appeared to be writing down, and I could only hope so, because I wasn't presenting them for them to ignore. I HOPE it helps provide some helpful angles.

First of all, I reminded them to use radio the way ZD has. I mentioned perhaps Zev, being a good spokesperson, should call into radio to inform people of the County's 2-1-1 phone service that they want people to know more about and start using more.

Public Access television and Neighborhood Council were two other outlets also suggested as vehicles in which to get their message out to the public.

Then I broke out into my radio DJ/politician voice to declare:

* NOW: If you live in LA County...ONE CALL, DOES IT ALL! 2-1-1...One free call; all County services.

* Doing business with LA County? Just call 2-1-1. One free call for all your LA County business needs.

* Need something done in LA County? Not sure who to call? Start with 2-1-1!

These are the types of angles I would start with. I would focus on the "one free call" angle.

AND to my new friends, the LA County Board of Supervisors: Please check out my
Executive Strategy Blogfor an article about "Marketing Strategy" with Al Ries & Jack Trout and articles on Dr. Demings "Methods for Management of Quality and Productivity", I also refered to at today's meeting.

This guy has to be the biggest Starfucker going!

He has now "educated" the entire LA City Council, so he is going to now "educate" the Board of Supervisors.

The comments regarding meglomania that the therapist made in another thread are rigfht on!

He has full on delusions of grandeur!

Are you guys buying into this clown's act?

Gimme a break. He is the latest victim of Zev's ability to deflect fools twoard the other members, who are not quite as adept as Zev as turning a few words from a public speaker into "support" for his agenda.

What a colossal waste of energy.

I just stumbled onto this blog, but why is this person posting here along with other sophisticated, knowledgable authors?

Is he the "comic relief" to an otherwise pretty sane blog?

I keep finding legions of posts critizing not the ideas but the poster, why is that?

I think in the future I'll just read the other posters and skip this Zuma Dogg person.

Zuma Dogg observers in the peanut gallery can say what they want, here's the only comment I care about from someone at "lacounty.gov".

"Hey Z-Dogg

Great suggestions on 211. Thanks for your input."

THANK YOU, for YOU input! I think it should make people in the community feel good to know that not only is the Board of Supervisors LISTENING to the people addressing them...they actually recognize and thank you for it!

That's a leadership trait that empower people to try and do their best for you. So, I'll keep trying; and Deming says, "Follow the path of least resistance."
