Barry serves, holds
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's office has informed the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City (UFLAC) that Chief Douglas Barry will be appointed formally to the position of Fire Chief on Tuesday. Barry has been asked to take the permanent position even though he was not a formal candidate for the job.
Good vibes all around over Barry's interim tenure has led to the permanent appointment. Top names at the UFLAC seem pleased.

Good, so the department can move on. Wonder how long Barry will stay, though, since the papers say he was initially thinking of retiring this year, having served some 32 years already. But an experienced black leader seems to fit the bill right now. To bring a more mature working environment, and end to all these tax-sucking lawsuits.

I wonder how much the city spent paying a professional recruting firm to find a fire chief, before making this announcement?

maybe they had to fulfill certain requirements: can you imagine if they didn't look around?

Wow! I don't think I'll have time to read all of the comments.
This is obviously very compelling citizen journalism.
You guys are right. Zuma Dogg doesn't attract any attention!

3:51: yeah, zuma, you do. Your thread is full of people telling you want an idiot you are, that's all. If you like those kind of "hits," you must be sadomasochistic as well as megalomaniacal. All Joe's "business" is on the next thread, this is just an announcement sort of. THAT thread is full of intelligent ideas, some not so, but nothing bizarre and wild.
Now, thanks to your criticism and me, there has been a 50% increase here. (I guess if you reply that this wasn't you, and offering again to take a polygraph test to "prove" it, you'll increase it still more.)
When people want to find you, they can go to your thread.

I'm sure Barry will do fine, but does anybody remember how he got the interim job? After Jon and Ken blasted the Tenney Pierce settlement, Mayor Villar vetoed it and angered the Black community. Before you could say scapegoat, Villar made Bamattre resign and his backflip worked. Black leaders were further pleased when Villar apppointed Barry as interim chief.
