Saturday Political and Cultural Hotsheet
While a baby's death is clear evidence of failure of some sort, it is very disappointing to me to see Gloria Molina convict a social worker before all the facts are known about Baby Jasmine:
Making political hay out of a baby's death without a full report in is nearly as reprehensible as a baby at risk falling through the cracks, Supervisor Molina. Wait, then blame. After all, someone may even end up blaming County supes for their "zero tolerance of children in the containment zone" policy....
Markland is good this morning. Links to "LA's premiere Chicano blogger" and "the Downtown blogger ice-cream anti-social" (3 p.m. Sunday in Weller Court).
If you read the website rather than the print, you might have missed this item in the Downtown news. Sam Hall Kaplan on downtown Nimbyism: residents of the arts district are opposing "a proposal for a restaurant, gourmet shop and a lounge bar to be located in an already designated retail building at 515 S. Molino St." Though the residents have lost, he relates it to a nascent movement that will likely oppose higher density downtown in the future.
None of the local cultural blogs linked to my review of Patti Smith at Santa Monica Pier, even though they didn't feature any of their own either. That's not a problem with my review, it's a problem with them [ed.: and if you want ego, we have plenty here to go around]. Especially the way they cover women over 45---they don't. Regardless, I'll be back in SaMo for Los Lobos in two weeks for the season finale.
"The child should have been taken from the mother, but the social worker failed the child," [Gloria Molina said].

Lame ass clowncil members again behaving irresponsibly. They're still wasting millions on special event waivers
But even as the council cut taxes, it was told the city's reserve fund is in perilous shape and the city is facing another $200 million shortfall next year.
"Basically, what we're saying is that we have to cut about $20 million a month if we want to be in balance next year," Councilman Bernard Parks said.

Mr. M., perhaps no one in the cultural community linked to your article because Patti Smith lacks a certain...uh, relevance?
Don't get me wrong, "Because The Night" was a great song and it came out when we were all starving for anything Springsteen, but Patti was far more poet than musician (with many of us questioning whether she should sing at all) and far more East Coast than West.
So, rock on, you old dog, I'm sure your upcoming Los Lobos review will draw a lot more attention.

I'm with 2:20. That's why I don't post to Zuma's threads anymore.
Zuma's antics take away not only much of the public's time, but also from the MS Network.
Otherwise, someone would have caught this re: the CA budget and the 14 Republican holdouts in today's L.A. Times:
"The senators said their concerns this year for legislation benefiting, for example, railroad companies, the timber industry and agriculture -- and against trial lawyers -- are natural given their backgrounds and constituents. By the same token, they oppose a plan to give Los Angeles $150 million out of $250 million allocated for traffic-light synchronization.
'We have to make sure that it's fairly distributed throughout the state,' said state Sen. Dave Cogdill of Modesto, who is vying to be the next GOP Senate leader. 'We don't want to see it go to the city of Los Angeles or the Bay Area.'
Anonymous said:
I don't think it's Patti Smith's age per se, "being over 45" that keeps people from being that interested in her -- look at Madonna, who's 50ish. But looks and acts half her age. Patti is from an era where earthiness in the Janis Joplin style is what she was shooting for, that raw, primal energy, which comes across in shows i've seen of her on tv -- didn't catch the live show at the Pier.
Rosanna Arquette made a doc about rocker women of the earlier era, and Patti was featured too. She's just doddang ugly and proud of it, doesn't even run a comb through her hair or use makeup, crooked teeth, plus she's out of shape -- some of the women commented that they were about the music not the sex kittens many women rockers are today. They don't have to sell sex, but if you're gonna look at someone for an hour or more, they gotta either be cute or have something visual.
Well, that's cool, but that's why Madonna still draws crowds, still looks hot, while the oldtime rockers who don't play the image game, don't draw younger crowds.
I agree with the dump-zuma people.
How can you ask for an intelligent response to stuff, then have that guy pop up with his lunacies?

Jack Hoff: Wow, that Cogdill from Modesto is caught red-handed saying he's doing everything in his power to keep money from going to the (Dem strongholds of) L A and San Fran.
The local papers really gotta play it up, try to bring some heat on the guy. It's clear the Republicans did the same with the gas taxes that were raised by taxes here in L A for DOT needs. Now another one.
Saying he wants to spread the money around the state, when we have the worst intersections/ traffic in the friggin' country, is intentionally destructive.
Arnold is "disgusted," but what does that translate into? Are there any moderate Republicans to work with, pushing Godgill's crew?
Our local pols are spinning their wheels if those crooks in Sacramento don't get major exposure and heat on this.

"Dear Friends;
As you know Jim Alger is constantly under attack by those who don't believe in the things we care about, choosing what gets built in our own communities, changing the status quo and overall returning the power to the people. Usually there is little that can be done about these attacks but today is different.
Jim has been attacked by a blogger at Mayor Sam’s Sister City and while usually we would say “let it be”, this gives us a unique chance to fight back. It is important not to allow these lies to ferment any longer than necessary for in the world of politics, lies become truth when repeated often enough.
When you have a moment, please visit the blog Mayor Sam’s Sister City (http://mayorsam.blogspot.com) and tell them to stop attacking Jim Alger!
Thank you as always,

When he attacks the CM's and Mayor, they can't respond and so he has become emboldened. Now, he has set a trap for himself.
People, you've gotta go out in force to City Hall and state your opinion of Zuma there. The CM's are beside themselves with being unable to reign him in and prevent these attacks against themselves -- zuma himself told us that -- but your people power can finally do it.

1- Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1956. In the small town of Santa Mira, psychiatrist Kevin McCarthy investigates when patients claim their relatives are not "being themselves".
2- Earth Vs. the Flying Saucers 1956. "Aliens" invade Earth again, but this time it's an all out attack!
3- Invaders from Mars 1953. After young boy sees a 'meteor' crash in the field behind his house, he begins to notice the adults around him (including his parents, uncle's, aunt's ) acting "very strange".
It turns out that the humans are being controlled by giant green Martians, who take orders from a tentacled head in a glass tank (Jim Alger).

5:20pm said..."If Jan Perry overlooked a normal person's comment card, as sometimes happens with Eric and Wendy, too, the normal person wouldn't attack Perry on live TV. With his mutt Matt joining in and both smirking.
[Excuse me...although Perry ignored Dowd's notice that he had a card in on the item, Garcetti obviously felt the need to step in and back up Dowd. But yeah, your average person would have just let the politician get away with it.
AND, are you upset with me for thanking Jan Perry on TV, yesterday, for her calling me up, in response to my concern that since another speaker spoke without filling out a card, or being called to the podium, and wasn't called out of order; and wasn't removed; and since they called for extra time for "those people" (anti-bush people) and ZD said you can't set aside time for a group like that; Perry responded with the no-grudge discretion to call ZD, since the Sgt of Arms informed her that my card was one of the first turned in, anyway.
SO AGAIN, THANK YOU JAN PERRY FOR DOING THAT!!! It has been a pretty long streak of CM Perry appearing to lose ZD's card, forget to call it, call me off topic (when I believe a Federal judge would find I WAS on topic)...and YEAH, that's gonna piss me off...
BUT, in my book...all it takes is one "Groundhog's Day" moment...like Jan calling up ZD without any bamboozle -- and I'm ready to hug her on TV 35 and tell her what a great public speaker she is and how intelligent sounding she comes off. (Even if I opposed to her position.)
I seems Wendy has cut the bamboozle -- and Eric has, too. And in my mind, so has Jan. And ZD knows hopefully knows the difference between an occasional error during a busy meeting with a lot of cards, and has found that in those cases, Council recognizes that. ]
said..."that you are disrupting the public comment time." [Sorry, it is libelous to say I am disrupting public comment time, and I would like to ask Mayor Sam to please look into who posted the comment, if that is possible, for further legal action that I will absolutley take if you are able to provide me that info.]
And no one will go to Van Nuys any more because you guys are there. [This too...completley libelous and a complete lie. I thought it was now that TOO many people go to Van Nuys now, because of me. So, I guess not enough, too many people are going to Van Nuys. And whoever doesn't show up to speak up for what they believe because someone else is there, is a crybaby and a coward in my book. And in this case, is also a libelous, lying, coward, crybaby.]

And in my opinion...they tried to go for the disruption angle to silence my political speak.
And OF COURSE if I was on their side of the rope, I would want to ban ZD for a year...but it's not over "disruption". That was about one bitter and broke down cop, at the end of a long career, at the end of a long, problematic meeting for reasons that had NOTHING to do with ZD (maybe Garcetti or O'Connell can tell you more about that day), and when he snapped...Council decided to try and use that tact to keep me out for a year. But bro, don't get it twisted...if there was disruption going on, they would have had me removed or arrested again. But of course given the opportunity, they should have tried to use that to keep me away. But it's about the political speak, not the behavior. Don't be a naive sucker.
Anyway, it's all too late, because they didn't get that...and ZD is pretty chill from the podium these days. Check the video. It's even more of a political nightmare...credible sounding delivery. (LOL!)
And I never said everyone loves ZD...but you say "noone" loves me and everyone hates me. That's a lie. When Councilmembers AND other public comment speakers refer to my comments...I don't think you can say, "noone" or "everyone". I'm not saying people haven't been put off by me...but I AM saying there seems to be evidence that ZD would get more votes than any anonymous pussies on this blog could ever buy.

Jim Alger said:
Good evening boys and girls, wow i am not sure where to begin.
Let me start by thanking those that defended me, (although my guess is that it was 4 guys and a girl in a pizza shop and not hundreds of supporters) but thank you nonetheless.
As for David Elliot aka ZD, I am not even going to deny your charges of posting on here anonymously since that doesn't seem to get through to you.
I will say this, YOU ARE DISRUPTIVE AT CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS, now sue me.
When I spoke to Mike Higby about you along time ago, he expressed his desire to simply drive more hits to the website. Mistaking quantity for quality he has allowed your dribble for far too long. I empathize with the City Council members who are forced to listen to your self promoting ramblings about this radio show or that website. It is not a far stretch to assume that someone who may be inclined to show up at a City Council meeting might see the likes of you and few others and feel safer locked on the wrong side of an insane asylums wall and thus stay home, and that is sad.
More than anything Dave, I actually pity you. How sad it must be to stroll through life with no real purpose, desperately searching for validation anyplace you can get it. You are very much like the child who acts out, accepting his parent’s anger over no attention at all. I assume you will view this post as an attack, it isn't. It is merely an observation. To attack you, or attempt to belittle you makes the false assumption that you had some sort of stature from which to fall from initially. Alas, you do not.
If you wish to attack me as you have threatened to, knock yourself out my friend. I have taken on much larger fish than anything your hand-held net could muster. My mistake in this entire escapade was to give you the common decency of a response. In doing so, I have risen yourself, and lowered myself to a place neither one of us truly belongs. Should you wish to debate me as you so claim, simply file papers and run against me. At such a time, assuming you could even qualify for a ballot, debates are scheduled and moderated. Perhaps you'll get luck and catch me on a bad day although considering I make a pretty good living working in politics, my guess is even on your best and my worst day you wouldn't make it past introducing yourself.
Now, you can make all the accusations you want son, but the reality is that my career far from ended... I merely arrived at a much larger pond. A pond that takes me to Washington, Sacramento and home, thus taking up a good deal of my time. I simply don't have the time to play in your little sandbox quite so often. It is entertaining though. I understand that criticism is the highest form of flattery. It is ok that you want to be like me one day, and maybe one day you can. Until then, keep doing your thing Dave.
See ya on the other side.

Do you realize that there are over 100 posts here between two childlike adults who are simply calling each other names? If you banned them both, the quality of the blog would rise dramatically, although the hits would go done. On his own ZD couldn't have generated this many extra postings.
I'm sure you'll agree that for a guy who wanted to be a state legislator, and who still wants to be elected to something because real work sucks, it's not impressive to see him and his friends spending all this time arguing with the likes of Zuma Dogg. If my legislator did that, I'd start a recall. Doesn't Jim have more important things to do to prove that he is worthy of being elected to anything? Maybe you can talk to him.

I find it amazing that you a) know Jim is posting anything as I have only seen 2 posts all day from him and b) how all of a sudden, after ZD launches this attack on him and goes at it most of the day that now all of a sudden you are offended.
ZD is a moderator of this blog and started a war that as best as I could tell Alger finished back at 8 something. Apparently ZD didn't like that because now all of a sudden there is a rash of "i hate Jim" posts, 180 degree change from the all-day trend.
So take your shock and dismay elsewhere. Someone gets attacked, they and their supporters will respond. Before today, Alger had been here maybe 5 or 6 times in the past month.
Much of what you are seeing today is a group of people just fed up with Zuma Doggs crap.

"Transportation/Traffic - Whether you live or work in Simi Valley, Santa Clarita, Newhall or the San Fernando Valley, traffic is a major concern. In the upcoming months, I will be unveiling a comprehensive plan to ease congestion on our roads and make public transportation more convenient."
Months ago this was promised. Where is it? Are democrats not important enough to receive your plan?

The point is not whether or not Jim is a nice guy, what he did on some NC or what his wife does for a living or whether or not he thinks small co's should be required to give paid maternity lease (no way, by the way), or even whether or not he is qualified to serve on the Assembly.
(He sure could help by going against the Republican idiots including Tom McClintock from L A-adjacent Thousand Oaks, who admit in today's LAT that they won't give us the 150 million we need and are owed for green light synchronization because they'd rather give it to "anyone but L A or San Fran." That's outrageous, when we have the worst traffic in the whole country, and they want to deny us out of political spite, and give it to some manure-infested rural hole instead.
Jim, if you want to make traffic a priority of your administration, you can start by bringing heat on these 13 holdout idiots. Seems that once elected, Dem's like Nunez can't rock the boat too loudy out of fear or retribution. So do it NOW and get the votes!
By the way, not passing a budget to spite the Dems is also causing Cal to get our credit rating lowered, when we're already second-lowest in the country, and the VERY LAST STATE not to have passed a budget yet. Meanwhile, the Assembly members are on vacation.)
But back to the idiot Dogg, who distracts Jim and the rest of us from discussing such issues by attacking him.
The point isn't the merits of Jim, whether he's "not worthy" or Mother Theresa, it is just twisted to post a whole thread based NOT on any issue you disagree with him about but, as you recap yourself at 10:12 just to launch a gratuitous attack on him as being the person you bizarrely suspect to have been posting anon against you in hundreds of posts, so you want to call him out.
Call him out on your unfounded suspicion, which you admit is all it is. And call him all kinds of names in the process, and in your posts on this attack thread.
People, stop equating Jim with Zuma or minimizing what Zuma is doing.
I swear I have never met Jim, but if it were me in his place, I'd be emailing Sam and demanding a public apology and banning dogg from the blog.

Keep in mind that on 8/15 just a few days ago, when fool zuma posted a thread with the boast, "Zuma Dogg and Matt Cover Home Depot at City Hall," virtually every single one of the reader posts was to make fun of him/ them. Take a peek...
Then just before that, Zuma rant a rant on how it was one of his colleagues who has been posting anon. against him, which he's pretty sure of because the person was removing some of zuma's boastful stupidities and replacing them with new posts at 3 a.m, at a time when he couldn't immediately respond. Check it all out, Jim.
This entire thread attacking Jim as the anon. poster is even more weird and bizarre given THAT accusation.

It was just this past Sunday, 8/12, under his own thread "Media Alert," trying to engage people for the nth time about alleged scandal with non- profits downtown, and getting no takers except the usual disgusted comments about himself, Zuma launches into allegations (10:44 p.m.) against one of his fellow bloggers who is posting anon against him and -- get this -- is not even arguing the issues (because no sane person would bother), but making personal attacks against his persona, lack of intelligence and such.
He says fellow blogger is engaging in "liebel" which must be some pseudo-German/ Yiddish word for libel.
PHEW, how would zuma spell the word "hyprocrite," if he could understand it?
Maybe someone wants to paste that post here, I don't have time now.
Anonymous said:
12:24am,
...but i don't have time now. (LOL!) And by the way...what are you talking about??? Is your entire life's work spent toward the goal of proving that the whole world wants me removed from the blog? If you somehow prove whatever point it is you are trying to prove that you don't have time for (but expect someone to figure out and track down whatever it is you are talking about) -- then what? so what? do that mean prop r was not intentionally deceiving...does that mean we don't have the infrastructure problems i am concerned about? does that mean the city was not in violation of vacancy rates and tenants rights? the non-profit scam...no problem, huh? OK! Look at all the effort you have spent over the past year claiming i am ruining the blog and how everyone wants me removed from the blog...meanwhile, if one person would simply go away...the rest of the anti-zd/zd-opposition would be proportonate and reasonable.
I think one person on this blog is kind of emotionally inferior to the rest of us. (See Deming/bad competiton.)
Anonymous said:
ZD, you really are a nitwit. You have been acccusing "one person" of posting negetive comments about you.
According to you, you are the central figure in this "one persons" life. Not his wife, two sons, job, family... no, none of that, just you. Do you have any idea how insane you sound?
It never occurred to you that MANY of us have gotten sooooooooooo tired of you going on about how good you are that we just, every once in a while, let it slip out?
I do believe that Higby should take away your posting privileges. You started an entire thread to attack someone you have a personal beef with, whether it be real or imagined and from what I can tell, it is the latter.

Zuma Dogg is lower than whaleshit.
I don't know Jim Alger, but I have become a fan just reading all these posts.
I do know Zuma Dogg, aka Dave Elliott to be an utter fool who knows close to nothing about LA City politics. He is a star fucker and an attention whore who makes things unpleasant for multitudes of us who need to transact legitimate business with the Council and others.
He has literally wasted hours of my time in two minute plus rants.
In addition, I have had to go outside for air a couple of times his body odor is so intense and offensive. It far exceeeds his visual appearance in just abject offensiveness.
Alger is not always right; in fact, he is often wrong. But he is sincere and logical and able to deliver a cogent message to which people will listen. ZD, on the other hand, could be reciting a new way to actually cure cancer and no one would hear it because of his delivery and appearnce.
I hope Higby reads every post here and finally exterminates the vermnin ZD from this blog. It was so much more interesting before.
I long for the good old days of Mayor Sam, ante ZD.
P.S. I am through posting on ZD's threads, joining Phil Krakover, Jack Hoff and I hope enough others to leave him talking to his sweetie Matt Dowd only.

I'm gonna chalk this one up for Zuma Dogg.
On the surface, Alger got the better of him. But his political smarm is leaking through at the armpits. He takes this holier-than-thou stance and sounds like a wimpy Prince Von Anhalt.
Zuma certainly appears to be under the influence of several narcotics and intoxicants. But he has clawed his way like a wet cat to the forefront of your mind.
YES! ZD gets on your last nerve. But when you have no nerves left, you are hooked. I would say that the traffic here tonight has been very good. Though, thats not all a site admin wants, just like a television broadcaster, he's not going to complain when eyes are on the product.
Alger is a sophmoric, wussified, local gadfly. He has a solid track record and carries some clout to the table because of his name recognition. But in this day wherein one can write their own ticket at will, his presentation leaves a lot to be desired.
I would rather watch a crackhead dance on Venice boardwalk spouting rapidfire ideas than listen to a grey flannel viagra salesman tell you how big his member is.
Capisce? Capezio? Bueller? Bueller?
Anonymous said:
Good grief, even you can't be THAT dense. You HAVE to be playing dumber than you are.
Point is, on 8/12 last Sunday at that time, you denounced in your hysterical way a fellow blogger for posting hundreds of anon's against you. Just as you are doing with Jim. You accused said fellow blogger of posting new threads in the middle of the night when you're finally asleep. (so what? but you got hysterical about that, too.)c
You gratuitously accused said blogger of "liebel"/libel as you do anyone who calls you out.
Which one of them is the sole person who doesn't like you, then? The fellow blogger or Jim, or will there be a new one in a few days?
You were indignant that said blogger is ALLEGEDLY attacking you for personal failings in yourself, not over issues. LIKE YOU ARE DOING WITH JIM AND YOU ADMIT IT HERE AGAIN AT 10:12 for those who can't plow through the earlier crap.
It's one thing to accuse a nameless fellow blogger, although there aren't many to choose from.
It's another thing to do it AGAIN to a real person. EARTH TO ZUMA!
Do you see a pattern here in yourself? That you are paranoid and make wild accusations that are way beyond the pale in ANY blog?
Because many, many people tell you what they think of you, your vanity tells you it's ONE person and you pick a new victim every week. You had no right to drag a man's name into the mud for this non-reason.
He was just trying to clear his name, but didn't know just how off balance the person he was dealing with is. Everyone does now.
No one is obsessed with you or cares about you or your nutty rants. THAT is the point that you can't stand so you demand attention by attacking someone.
Anonymous said:
2:13 = CD14 Red Dog Spot, fellow blogger.
Can tell by his unique style AND his admission that site administrators would rather have a lunatic who draws hits even to tell him to f'k off and leave decent people alone and to their ideas and issues, than a "wussified" guy like Alger who makes sense.
THAT was their logic for choosing Zuma over Alger -- hence, turning this blog into virtual toilet tissue. But there is clearly ONE blogger, the one zumma accused last Sunday 8/12 at 10:44 p.m., of being the "one" person who doesn't like him.
Who's that sane blogger? Mailander or Sam? Will they have the guts to reclaim their blog, or be whores to numbers (which will die soon as this thread does, in a boycott like against H D)?
Well, Mailander and Sam?

Jim, Zuma, and Dave, I want you to report to the boys vice principal's office right now. You're disrupting class.

someone said..."THAT was their logic for choosing Zuma over Alger."
Mayor sam didn't CHOOSE ZD over Alger??? What are you talking about??? We were both contributors at the same time. For whatever reason Jim isn't blogging here anymore has nothing to do with a "zero sum gain" of sam having to "choose" over anyone.
And all the overnight comments and early morning comments...MAN...DON'T YOU SEE THE PATTERNS...Hilarious! Some of the wording is the same stuff as always --- same stuff someone sent to City watch....there must be HUGE overnight readership among people who feel ZD is the problem. INTERESTING!

The vice principal is waiting! Detention will be next and then you will be expelled.

Entire life's work? You could only wish anyone gave THAT much of a crap.

Let's all join Krakover, Joeaa, and the rest into boycotting this site. Any site that lets someone post a thread to air his paranoia against another person is not worth reading.

Joe, LAT finally got its review of Patti in today's paper -- did you know she's 60 years old? Awesome powerful voice, still sounds the same even if she never did look too good up close. But great on the stage.
Wow, two threads of people defending Jim from zuma's gratuitous attack. People who don't even know Jim, but know an underhanded hit when they see one. What would Patti think about that?
