HOME DEPOT WILL OPEN IN SUNLAND-TUJUNGA.
Nobody cares about what you fools want.
The Corporate Society RULES.

Another Home Depot exec under so much pressure that you have to state the corporate mantra even on the 4th of July?
You guys are a joke!
Anonymous said:
4th of July was and is a day of celebration for who?
For Corporate America our founding fathers are Businessman and they too did not give a shit about the Native People when they occupied the lands.
So why should Todays Corporate care about these trailer trash red necks in Sunland-Tujunga.
Home Depot Corporate America Rules, just ask the Iraqi people.

Its fun to watch these crackers think they're fighting for something when half of them have another agenda and the other half have no clue what the agenda is but Effie or Clem or Mabel told them they better protest Home Depot or GASP! The Mexicans will come.
Newsflash - we are already here.

crackers??? What are you colorblind?

Sunland-Tujunga is 40% Hispanic and we love it that way! We also are heavily Armenian, Russian & Persian, not to mention Korean.
Keep your racism in your neighborhood, it don't fly in ours!

If 40% of the community's population is Latino, why was nearly everyone in the parade White? Probably because Latinos know they're not considered "Real Americans" in Sunland-Tujunga and don't want to be harassed.

You are so wrong! I was there! over half the crowd was Latino, and they were cheering the No Home Depot floats! Try again.....

Joe B. sure loves to burn bridges!
To Whom It May Concern-
As president of the Rotary Club of Sunland Tujunga Shadow Hills, I feel that is my responsibility to clear up some misconceptions that have arisen within the community.
Two months ago, the Rotary received the application from Mr. Joe Barrett with the name of the Sunland Tujunga Alliance as the name of the entry for the fourth of July parade. I was told by Mr. Barrett that they would come down the route under the banner of the Sunland Tujunga Alliance. I was told that the No2 home Depot people would be marching behind the Sunland Tujunga Alliance, passing out flyers and wearing their t-shirts. The Rotary Club approved the application based on this information.
On Thursday,June 28th, the Rotary received many phone calls regarding an article that was in the lastest issue of the Foothills Paper, that called for the members of No 2 Home Depot to report to the Vons market on the 4th of July to march as No2 Home Depot NOT as the Sunland Tujunga Alliance.
I immediately called Mr. Barrett to find out what the situation was. I was told that he had decided that since the meeting in early July had been postponed, that the group was going to march as No2Home Depot. I explained that his application was under the name Sunland Tujunga Alliance, and that any changes had to be authorized through the Rotary Club board. It was at this time that Mr. Barrett launched into a tirade of obsenities, and threats that he was going to call Rotary International and stop the parade from happening. When I tried to calm him down and explain that I did not appreciate being sworn at, he stated, "well the s**t is really going to hit the fan now" followed by another obsenity. I hung up the phone.

How do people in Sunland-Tujunga feel about Joe B.?
Mr. Barrett,
You could have resolve this issue without sending an email blast to your "No Home Depot" supportors. Harassments and threats are not a good way to get your point across. Sound similar to what you accused the Home Depot folks of doing. I'm very disappointed in you. You should take a deep breath, count to ten and wait a hour and then called Mr. Lucas to resolve your issues. It seems Abby Diamond was able to do it, why not you?

I think Joe was standing up for his group, from what I understand, the guy that wrote this got harassed by HD to make them (the NHDC) not carry their banners or wear their NO Home Depot t-shirts. He got a million phone calls from the supporters of No Home Depot, and basically had to eat crow.

I WAS there. There were hardly any Latinos there, far less than 40% of the people there.

Mayor Sam: Is Joe able to delete comments? Please respond.
Mayor Sam said:
There are comments that are getting deleted. All comments that are posted get emailed to me. I am finding comments in my email box from this post that are not on the post any longer. Therefore someone delted them. Reading them, I don't see any reason why they should have been deleted.
When I find out who is deleting there will be hell to pay.

Mayor Sam previsouly wrote that Joe B. could not delete comments. He lied. Joe B. has deleted over a dozen comments tonight. So much for blogs being about free speech.
Mayor Sam said:
Actually I was wrong. Joe only has guest access to post. According to Blogger, only admin accesss lets you delete comments. But Joe told me he is able to do it. I asked Joe not to delete comments just because he didn't agree with the person. I can't prove that he is doing that. I hope he is not. Otherwise I will be quite upset.

The next part of the letter:
Two hours later, Abby Diamond(Also from the No2Home Depot) called me to find out what happened. After about three minutes of conversation, Abby and I had the whole situation worked out. I called other board members within the Rotary Club to get their approval, and called Abby back to tell her that everything was fine. She agreed to put the Sunland Tujunga Alliance banners on the front and sides of the float.
Joe B.'s last post shows a photo of a float with a No 2 Home Depot banner on the side. Looks like Abby didn't keep her word either. This whole operation cannot be trusted to keep its word, much less represent the majority of residents in Sunland-Tujunga.
Anonymous said:
Another juicy excerpt from the letter:
Also, on a personal note, to those of you who called me a traitor to my community, I have been a supporter of the No2Home Depot campaign since this whole ordeal began. If you look on the No2Home Depot website, my business is listed as a supporter to No2Home Depot. There is no one in town more against the Home Depot coming into Sunland . I do not appreciate the slandorous statements that Mr. Barrett is leveling against me, and the Rotary Club.
Joe B., Abby, and the rest of No 2 Home Depot are actively alienating their biggest supporters! Joe B. sent an e-mail blast that made it seem as if this Rotary Club President were on the Home Depot payroll! Shameless...these are desperate actions for a group that claims they are confident that they will prevail.
Anonymous said:
Joe B. is a disgrace to No 2 Home Depot and the entire community of Sunland-Tujunga and has less class than anyone at Home Depot, Dakota Communications, or Latham & Watkins.
Anonymous said:
Let's see if I can narrow down the reasons why Joe B. doesn't like this post and keeps deleting it.
Joe B. is responsible for the Do-It-Center scandal that caused Jim Alger to be banned from the Neighborhood Council system, he harassed and alienated Miner to the point where he shut down the old Foothills Forum, and he's now cussing at fellow community leaders and threatening them.
Anonymous said:
I think Joe was standing up for his group
By cussing at people and threatening them?
from what I understand, the guy that wrote this got harassed by HD to make them (the NHDC) not carry their banners or wear their NO Home Depot t-shirts
No. Joe B. decieved Mr. Lucas, the organizer of the parade, and broke their previous agreement.
He got a million phone calls from the supporters of No Home Depot, and basically had to eat crow.
No. Mr. Lucas got a few calls after Joe B. sent out an angry and spiteful e-mail blast asking people to harass him. Abby Diamond actually resolved the whole issue before anyone called Mr. Lucas. Maybe because she didn't cuss and threaten people like hot-head Joe B.?

I received a copy of the threatening letter Joe sent to his email list!
I am posting a copy below and I hope you are as appalled as I am over Joe's call for harassment of Mr Lucas, his threatening tone of voice, and the just total out of control nature of Joe's letter. This man is a threat to all and must be stopped:
We have been very excited, and have spent quite a bit of time
preparing for this years 4th of July Parade! Unfortunately today,
Micheal Lucas, the parade organizer, called us and demanded that we not wear our "No Home Depot" t-shirts or display our "No Home Depot" banners in the event. We have participated in this parade for 2 years and have never had this restriction placed upon us. After much negotiation with Micheal Lucas, we are now allowed to wear our t-shirts, but our "No Home Depot" banner can only be displayed behind our float (??). Our float is not allowed to display anything but
"Sunland-Tujunga Alliance"(the No Home Depot parent organization) banners. These demands were
made today, just 6 days before the parade and at least a month after
our application was accepted. We feel that we are unfairly being
singled out by Micheal, for reasons we do not understand. Our application clearly stated that we were the Sunland-Tujunga Alliance,
The No Home Depot Campaign. The theme of this years parade is "Unity in Community" and we feel that we have always represented this concept well for the past 2 years. We planned on making this years parade our biggest and best yet, and we hope to promote the July 19th Hearing .
Now, we are being told that we have to present a watered down version
of our campaign in the parade. We are asking that you call Micheal
Lucas, ( he is the owner of Deja View Photography) at (818) xxx-xxxx
and let him know that you support our campaign and our parade entry in it's original form.
Thanks,
The NHDC

I'm pretty sure Jim is alive & well in the NC system. One man's "scandal" is another mans boring topic. You seem to be out there on your own little desert island screaming at the fishies!

5:12, read it and weep. If you don't follow L.A. politics, why comment on this blog?
Jim Alger was not banned because of some PTA activity, he was banned because of the bad PR from the Do-It-Center scandal. He will never run for office again.

Nowhere in your link does it mention Do-It-Center, or Jim being banned.

I'm not doubting that S/T is 40% hispanic. Unfortunately it's only racist white people in the pictures at http://www.no2homedepot.com/picketpix.html
I'm guessing that 40% of the community isn't wanted.
Anonymous said:
Come on TruthTo Power, they had the token Asain and African American. That proves they're not racist. It's just Hispanics they don't like.
But other wise a very white collection of protesters.
Anonymous said:
Wow! So just a picture of a white person indicates racism! Too funny!

Is Dakota Communications working this blog again? They are a desperate company about to lose their big client, Home Depot, so I guess they'll say anything to keep the checks rolling in!

7:59 -
No, just a picture of a white person doesn't prove racism but when 40% of the population isn't represented that does.
Anonymous said:
That's ridiculous. There are actually
many Latinos at the pickets, just check out http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=no+home+depot
You are making an assumption, based on a view pictures, and then labeling everyone a racist because you don't see 40% Latinos in the photos.
You are what we call, "The Easily Manipulated".

I was in the 4th of July Parade.
There was only one person in the entire Parade route that cheered FOR a Home Depot.
The consensus of the town is that they need and want a Target type store. However, we would also take a Kmart or a Kohls as long as it is a General Merchantile Store that serves the needs of our entire families.
It's that's simple, so stop the name calling, the lies and the rest of the nonsense and waste of time being spent on this blogg. The Commissioners will be making their own decision on the this subject on July 19th in Sunland-Tujunga.
Anonymous said:
I am appalled at all the accusations on this blog. I have lived in Sunland/Tujunga my entire life. I went to school here and am raising my children here. If you can't see the beautiful diversity that this community has to offer off of a 2 minute long video that was edited by my children's father (also raised here) then I suggest you come to our town and take a look BEFORE you spout off an uninformed opinion of the residents. If you look at ALL the children in that video you would see the diversity right there. I personally know most of the Little League children that participated in the parade and their parents. Don't tell me they were all white.
The main reason why the residents do not want a Home Depot is right in front of you, displayed clearly on the video: CHILDREN. You can't even count how many there are. We need somewhere we can go, locally, to buy their clothes, shoes, school supplies, etc. It has nothing to do with racism. It's about our kids. As it is now, I have to drive 20 minutes away to buy school clothes. But I have at least 4 places CLOSER to me where I can get a bathroom fixture if I need it.
There is no hatred for the corporate ruler, this is about necessity.
Look at the video again and tell me how many children you see. Take a closer look and try to tell us they are all white.
If you were really there, you would have seen them all with your own eyes, clear as day, and you wouldn't be calling our town trailer trash red necks.
We are a community of families. That is how we stand and that is why we have united!
Anonymous said:
One question: Can you name the Grand Marshall of our parade? 'Cause if you DO know the answer, all the "racism" arguments are now void. Hint: He's a doctor, family man, neighbor and friend.
I do not presume to know the community dynamics of your town so please do not presume to know ours. And I am quite certain that the many hispanic, black, chinese, vietnamese, korean, armenian, persian, russian, etc. families (not just the "white folk") in our community take great offense to being called racist. And we will not tolerate nor will we allow ANYONE to call our children the same.
Children are TAUGHT racism. Sunland/Tujunga will not stand for those teachings. Our children play in the park with their friends. That's the end of it. There are no barriers in our town so please stop trying to raise one.
Enough said.

I live in the area and I can tell you.. most people dont give a rats ass if Home Depot comes in or not. There are a lot of contractors that live here and would welcome it. We have better things to do with our spare time.
Anonymous said:
Hey contractor, HD is only 7 minutes away in San Fernando. How far does your wife have to drive to buy school clothes?
Anonymous said:
My HUSBAND has a driver to pick up items for him, my son is grown and I wouldnt be caught dead shopping for clothes at Target. Sometimes you need to get out of your little world.
Anonymous said:
Congratulations Mrs. Contractor. You are quite the minority in this community. Most of the families here have young children and live paycheck to paycheck as does most of the American population. Please, feel free to get out of our little world and shop a higher end store. For the majority of families, Target clothes are fine with us. We would also love to save on the gas it costs us every time we need to travel 20 minutes or so to buy a decent pair of jeans, slacks or a nice dress for our kids.
Anonymous said:
Please feel free to get an education and a better job. And stop breeding. Life is good.
Anonymous said:
I just don't want to see our community go in an even more industrial direction. We need to make it more family friendly, keep our locals shopping locally ( A Targrt, Kohls, or Wal Mart would do that). We don't need all the semi trucks, as someone said earlier, there is a Home Depot, minutes away, in an industrial area of San Fernando. I feel sorry for the Senior citizens at the mobile home park that is adjacent to the property. They sure aren't happy about a Home Depot possibly opening there!

Eaaaasy people.....Let's back up a minute......
The creator of this video simply posted a "Home movie" in which he included his children and did so as nothing more or less than a fun experience to share with his family, friends and neighbors.
As I do know this man, I can absolutely GARENTEE that this whole "Home Depot" issue never even occurred to him in the making of it, the float just happened to come into frame as all others did but the HD float (As well as racism) seems to be the only thing that most of you have chosen to focus on.
Please take this video for what it in all actuality is....One man's home movie in which he captured his 2 young boys having a blast riding in a parade....That's it....No more.....No less....
And for those of you who are playing the "Racism" card: The diversity count on our Tujunga little league float ....White, black, Hispanic & Asian.
FYI.....The best friend of my 2 boys is a little boy whose parents are a mixed race of black and white. Ask my boys what color their friend is and they'll tell you....."Christian".
Now let me tell you of the true spirit of this parade from the perception of someone who was actually IN this parade.....
A bunch of soaking wet, laughing & screaming boys and girls shooting squirt guns, throwing water balloons and throwing candy to the crowd. These kids were having the time of their lives and not only couldn't give a crap about but were completely oblivious to of any of the political issues that you all seem to be focusing on.
THAT was the TRUE spirit of the parade and this video......
So PLEASE, take your soapbox grandstanding to the upcoming HD meeting or whatever political venues you wish to beat your chest at but leave this little hometown parade movie alone.
EO....Great job on the video, thanks for sharing with your neighbors.

Rob,
Well said. I posted the video only to show our town celebrating the holiday. On this blog, unfortunately, are some people that just hate our towns efforts to improve our community, and at least one that has some weird obsession with attacking me for anything I say. It was a simple video, full of genuine Americana, and it will be aired at next Wednesdays Neighborhood Council meeting in high resolution!
