Don't hold back, ZD....

Get the dirt that will take them down.

They can't just throw spears at incumbents and the "status quo" anymore.... they have to catch them.

Dumbasses.

Take a look at Latin America. It's just a reflection of the social structure that those cultures produce. Mexico, for example, has the 2ND highest number of billionaires per capita in the entire world, yet the country is generally a decrepit hole.

Villar, Garcia, Nunez et al. could all drop dead today, and things will still be the same in the LAUSD five years from now, since there are hundreds just like them waiting in the wings to take their place and who would receive widespread support of the Latinos who they'd eventually screw over.

(IOW, "it's the demographics, stupid")

City Council is Rodney Dangerfield of L.A.

It's not easy being a Los Angeles City Council member.

Sure, they each represent about 260,000 constituents and hold the strings of the city's $6.8 billion budget.

But, sometimes, department general managers and city commissioners don't even return their calls.

Faced with hundreds of urgent little problems, they struggle to make an impact on the big issues of Los Angeles - such as gangs and traffic. And when they do accomplish something, the public and the media don't seem to know or care much about their triumph.

Take, for example, the first-ever City Council retreat that kicked off Tuesday at the San Pedro Doubletree Hotel. The innovative session designed to help the 15-member council focus on priorities and improve its effectiveness drew exactly one television camera.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa had 10 cameras filming him Tuesday morning when he swept a street and announced a summer jobs program.

And while City Council members generally feel upbeat about their work, there is also a sense that they're not doing all they could be.

"You all have the potential to be the best council in many years," said Joe Hertzberg, a facilitator hired by the council to lead their two-day retreat.

Hertzberg interviewed council members individually before the retreat, then presented their self-assessment.

"But, on the other hand, I heard that the whole is less than the sum of the parts."

Hertzberg continued: "There's a perception that the council is largely reacting, rather than proactively identifying areas and moving ahead."

Though some members disagreed with Hertzberg's overview, his comments fueled a debate over how the council can assert more authority - including how and when to challenge the mayor.

"We're rubber-stamping everything," Councilwoman Janice Hahn said, after suggesting the council more closely question Villaraigosa's commission appointments.

"Not to stand up to the mayor just to stand up to the mayor, but to provide better constituent services."

But Councilman Richard Alarc n said the council could become more powerful and effective by collaborating with the mayor.

"It's not the charter (that gives power); it's how you marshal leadership," he said.

Others suggested that the council could exert more authority and become more effective by having more rigorous debate.

"Maybe as a body, we can do more by voting 15-to-zero less," said Councilman Jack Weiss.

Ensconced in a hotel meeting room, council members also debated the city budget and how the city could reduce gang violence. Council members were expected to end the day with a harbor cruise, courtesy of the Harbor Department.

The two-day retreat cost about $13,000, including the room rental and Hertzberg's fee.

Council President Eric Garcetti organized the retreat to get all 15 members to focus on the larger issues facing the city and develop strategies to tackle L.A.'s biggest problems - including gang violence and traffic.

But it wasn't all serious.

As the ground rules were explained - no cell phones, BlackBerrys or laptops - a casually dressed Councilman Greig Smith weighed in.

"Can I ask Mr. LaBonge and Mr. Weiss to loosen their ties?" he asked.

He was quickly corrected by Garcetti. On this day, council members would interact on a first-name basis.

As for Garcetti, he said Tuesday that he was pleased with the retreat so far.

"It's been exactly as I hoped," he said. "Frank conversation about subjects and areas of importance."

RE: "There are hundreds just like them waiting in the wings to take their place and who would receive widespread support of the Latinos who they'd eventually screw over."

To quote a great man admired by millions around the world, Mr. Arthur Fonzarelli, "CORRECTAMUNDO!"

That is why we have to fight to "fix the system" to close these loopholes and flat-out lies and corruption so that it doesn't matter how many people are in line to throw the kids and our nation's future into the meat grinder.

We know politicians will try and hold meetings in secret behind our back so we made the Brown Act.

We know politicians will try and prevent you from speaking out against fraud, waste and abuse, so we made the first amendment to the constitution.

We know politicians will take as much shady money as possible, so we made campaing and lobby laws.

We know there are hundreds of people waiting in the wings who would walk into a bank and help themselves to all the money in the vault, so we made laws against that...

Well we need some new laws if we are going to hand over public money to private corporations and private non-profits to "privatize" public interests.

Just because there are hundreds of people waiting in the wings to take the place of the current batch of corrupt politicians, doesn't mean you should just sit quietly and allow it to happen.

YOU HAVE TO STAND UP AND SAY, WE THE PEOPLE CONSIDER YOUR ACTIONS TO BE ILLEGAL, AND WILL PASS A LAW ACCORDINGLY TO HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE.

BESIDES THAT...

SIMPLY VOTE "NO" ON EACH AND EVERY OF THE MANY BONDS THEY WILL CONTINUE TO PUT ON THE BALLOT TO CONTINUE TO TRY AND BAMBOOZLE PAST YOU IN THE NAME OF THE KIDS.

DID YOU SEE MONICA IN ACTION, RUNNING THAT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING ON TUESDAY? PRETTY SCARY STUFF.

Monica...I know you tried to push through a most agressive "order of business" with 8 pretty big items.

I couldn't find the committee meeting minutes? Oh yeah, you didn't run any of it through committee? Hmm. Hey Monica...I went to read through the "public testimony" regarding items 1-8 of your "annual order of business."

OH YEAH...there wasn't any.

HEY PEOPLE...DID YOU KNOW THAT WE ELECTED MONICA GARCIA AND THREE OTHER PEOPLE TO MAKE ALL OF YOUR DECISIONS FOR YOU.

WOW, I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA? IS THIS STILL AMERICA, OR DID SOME PEOPLE DECIDE "IF WE DON'T LIKE YOUR LAWS, WE WILL BREAK THOSE LAWS."

WHERE'S THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OVER ALL OF THIS? Remember Monica...the Inspector General is you ally...not enemy. Remember, the inspector general is there to watch out for "Fraud, Waste and Abuse." And if you care about kids and want to fix the school system, and increase the graduation rate, and keep "YOUR PEOPLE" out of jail...WOULDN'T YOU WANT THE INSPECTOR GENERAL TO BE WATCHING OUT FOR THAT...I MEAN YOU ARE GOING TO ALL THIS EFFORT TO "REFORM" THE SCHOOL SYSTEM.

Wouldn't you want to do everything possible to make sure your efforts aren't being undermined and thwarted? The only person who would want to squash the inspector general would be the people doing the "fraud, waste and abuse."

SO MONICA...How do you feel about the Inspector General? How would you feel if he starts attending all committee meetings, if you ever would have one.

AND BY THE WAY...Now that AB 1381 has been SOUNDLY ruled to be illegal and unconstitutional, I would like to know if Monica Garcia would like to publicly denounce AB 1381.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT AB 1381, the intent is CLEARLY BAD...there was 0.00% regarding accountability and raising student achievement. YES, 0.00% and I can say that, because no one will EVER produce a cut and paste with ANYTHING measures addressing how to actually achieve ANYTHING except transfering the spending power of the school construction budget. THAT'S IT. SHOW ME OTHERWISE...YOU WON'T...EVER!!! AND A JUDGE RULED IT ILLEGAL AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

SO CAN I HAVE A UNANYMOUS PUBLIC DENOUNCEMENT OF AB 1381 BY THE NEW LAUSD SCHOOL BOARD? WHY WOULDN'T YOU? IT'S ILLEGAL?

Of course you are correct. And now it appears Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim Helu is the wealthiest person in the world, having overtaken Bill Gates. And Mexico will continue to export their poverty to the US, many coming to decaying sanctuary cities like LA -- to be led by incompetent ethnocentric buffoons like Villar and Nunez and the pandering clowns on the CC.

LA, LAUSD, and much of Calif will just get worse as the 3rd world express rolls on.

9:33: Saw Laura Chick lead a discussion about and with women in top leadership positions in L. A., including: LAX, DOT, Planning, City CFO... They noted that before AV women made up 13% of City Commissioners, now they're 45%. And a large number are black/Hispanic.

They all thanked the Mayor for his choices on city commissioners, so Janice Hahn is off there, as she usually is. And teh Council does confirm appointments, so she should speak up if she has issues.

As for the Council not getting enough attn at this: boy, they can't win, damned if they try to be low-key, damned if they don't.

But for Zuma to have thought they're doing this to avoid him: boy, are you filled with self- deluded grandeur. It's been announced for months, everyone asked to clear their agendas.

ZUMA DOGG SUPPORTS ERIC GARCETTI'S GREAT IDEA FOR A "RETREAT" LIKE THIS. (Jokes that they need to "retreat" after the past year, aside.) I don't know the specifics of this retreat, but in general, it is important to take time for this type of thing. It's covered under Deming's 14 Point plan. (See training and re-educating.)

The initial problem I had, was that it appeared to be one of those remote council meetings.

I would have LOVED to have been there...not as a watchdogg, but to have experienced what I hope was an enlightening process. I have attend hundreds of hours of seminars like these by Deming, Ries, Robbins, Chopra, Williamson, Dyer, Bandler, Peck...and other lesser known authors and trainers. (I know, I know...then how come I'm such a loser in my van...we'll, maybe it helped me in other ways that you may, or may not be aware of.)

So a retreat vs secret policy discussion is a different thing.

Funny though...I HAD TO CONTACT AN INSIDER FROM THE MAYOR'S OFFICE to find out that it was a "retreat", and was truly not a ploy to discuss policy behind the pueblos back.

And if for no other reason...it just gave the fraud, waste and abuse agneda approving process a 2-day break. (just kidding CMs.)

And if someone can confirm the word Deming came up at the retreat (it would be no surprise, but would make me feel even better about the seminar leader), I'll take one day off from City Council and attend another governement agency meeting for public comment instead. (LAUSD, BOS, etc.)

AND CONGRATULATIONS TO ZD's PAL, FUJI...new CEO of everyone else, y'all!!! BILL FUJI...another seemingly great guy who ZD was able to piss the f*ck out of!

Leave it to Big ZD to bring out someone's (once in a long, distinguished career) all time worst, y'all...yeah, yeah!

And I never think they are doing anything to avoid ME...just the public in general. I'm going to start to try and me more clear about that from now on.

With the Bush admin. finally admiting yesterday what has been widely reported, there are now Al Qaeda cells in this country, coming in from the Mexican border, disguised as Mexicans. Gee, what a surprise. But hey, let's just keep letting anyone in, and maybe Bin Laden's buddies can join the next march for full rights, and change our laws and constitution when they achieve critical mass.

ZD should be concerned about schooling; clearly he got the short end of the stick in his own preparatory education.

The man cannot spell, construct a sentence properly, use capitals or lower case correctly, or know when to paragraph.

And that's just the English issues. He also doesn't have any idea what works in civics or how our city government actually functions.

Look here, he has just discovered the massive loss of Belmont. This has been in the news for the past three or four years at least, and he thinks he's found it under a rock or something.

I can't belive any of you support this fool with donations, alms, bakshish or whatever else you want to call the droppings he lives on in his miserable existence.

Maybe, if we just ignore the moron, he'll go away and bother someone else.

I have been blogging here for about a year. Had I had been blogging three or four years ago, I would have been blogging about Belmont. It typifyes all that is wrong with the system. AND, go make fun of the LA Times, for their July 8, 2007 Belmont story that caught my attention at the same time Monica Garcia revealed her agenda. DID YOU KNOW THAT THAT INSANELY AGRESSIVE 8 POINT "ORDER OF (MONKEY) BUSINESS" was authored by the mayor's office and they weren't smart enough to remove his office's name off the file sent to Monica Garcia. (LOL!)
