YouTube Comedy Classic: CRA/AEG Present "LA LIVE" (They Should Call it "LA DEAD" Cause It's Gonna Kill The City)

***** UPDATE *****
JUST EXPANDED THE COVERAGE AND ANALYSIS OF CRA/LA's LA LIVE PROJECT. (A lot more than posted on this thead. I've tried so hard to write a good comedy script, all these years. All I had to do was review this project. Read ZD's MEGA article on this MEGA boondoggle.)]
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Grand Avenue, LA "Condorodo" River...and now, LA LIVE. They should call it LA DEAD...cause all these CRA community anvils are gonna bankrupt the City.

Not to say that I am against more of these billion dollar downtown boondoggle projects by the CRA (Community Robbing A-holes)...but I hope an earthquake destroys this entire project two seconds after the ribbon cutting ceremony! (Except, then the CRA would just be happy -- because then -- they could build it all over again, and make the money all over again!)

WATCH THIS HILARIOUS JERK-OFF VIDEO OF THIS JERK-OFF PROJECT
[Watch this blog and LA LIVE PROJECT BLOG for much more on this pompous, ego-driven, billion dollar white elephant waiting to happen. Just what we need...more five star hotels, botique shops, restaurants and entertainment along "Tumbleweed Connection". I know, I know...build it and they will come. FIRST, YOU BRAG IN LA WEEKLY THAT YOU PLAN ON BUILDING SO MUCH HIGH DENSITY HOUSING THAT TRAFFIC WILL COME TO A GRIDLOCK HAULT. THEN, YOU PLAN ON PEOPLE FLOCKING TO THE AREA TO GO TO PF CHANG'S? Riiiiiiiiight! I think the City should be sticking to basics; prove to the constituents that they can tie their shoelaces (accomplish something). How come the only people that do not see the problem with this are the ones making the money off the development?

AND NOW, IF YOU LIKE TRAGIC FAIRYTALES, HERE'S ONE:

L.A. LIVE Welcomes New Cornerstone [how many cornerstones can downtown have] of Emerging [Speculative] Vibrant Downtown District With Hotel and Residences [and Skid Row Homeless] Groundbreaking Today; Major Financial Investors in Hotel and District Also Announce [GOOD! Cause if there is ONE thing downtown LA needs, is new two five star hotels!

Governor Schwarzenegger, Mayor Villaraigosa and Business Leaders Join AEG to Break Ground on The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE, The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott Hotel at L.A. LIVE [Sorry folk, between this and Grand Ave project, won't be much space left for real affordable housing, except on the sidewalks.]

LOS ANGELES, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- AEG, developers of L.A. LIVE, the world-class sports, entertainment and residential district being built in downtown Los Angeles [they used world-class and downtown in the same phrase...LOL!], will break ground today on a 1,001-room hotel/224-room residence tower that will serve as the project's anchor [yeah, cause it's gonna sink the area], at a ceremony led by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. [Battle of the choppers.]

Also on hand to mark the start of construction of the 54-story, Class A high-rise [in class "Skid Row" territory] will be (was, I guess) Los Angeles City Council Members [insert kiss ass photo opportunists CMs here]; and Speaker of the California State Assembly (fringe, extreme political activist) Fabien Nunez.

The hotel/condominium tower, which will total 2 million square feet on 2.5 acres of land, will contain The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. LIVE, the JW Marriott and The Ritz-Carlton hotel. Scheduled for completion in early 2010, it will be the final building to commence construction on the extremely active, 27-acre L.A. LIVE site, which is adjacent to STAPLES Center and the Los Angeles Convention Center.

If you like "tragic fairytales"...here's the Press Release that's more hilarious than a Seinfeld script, and more tragic than a steamroller gentrifying the community.

I want to live in an expensive condominium right in front of the Staples center. I want to spend hours trying to get into my expensive condo during a Lakers game or Clippers game.

Is this like the baseball field built by Mr. Costner you know the saying "build it and they will come".

I want to know waht is being built on the other corner of Olympic and Figueroa. I see another big building going up just across the street. I wonder how long that old browmn apartment building behind the car-wash will last. What luxry hotel wants an old run dowm apartment inhabited by mostly poor mexicans right across the street.

As per usual, The Fool ZD has no idea what he is talking about.

LA Downtown has been dead for years for one reason; a convention center with no conventions. The same center that has been bleeding millions of dollars each year, dollars that could have been used to aid homeless, hire cops, etc.

And why? Because we have not had the hotel rooms to house the conventioneers.

Now the Mayor fixes the problem and gets the hotels built so we can make money on taxes, sales, etc. and trusty DumbDog pans it and tells us it is the end of the earth.

So, Villaraigosa solves a problem and gets no credit for that, but gets criticized for creating one.

No wonder he's The Mayor and DumbDog is living in his van and begging for coffee, gas and food money.

There is justice in Los Angeles.

Keep it up DumbDog, you never fail to confirm your total lack of comprehension as to what makes this city work.

The reason there are NO conventions is NOT because there are no accomodations....it's because NO ONE WANT TO COME TO LA!!!

There is NOTHING attractive about downtown LA!!!! It is crime ridden and EVERYTHING IS SURROUNDED BY THE BARRIOS AND MEXICANS AND HOMELESS!!!

Tourism is DEAD in So. Calif. The downtown area is SURROUNDED by slums!!!! NOTHING CAN TRANSFORM IT!!!! NOTHING CAN TRANSFORM IT!!!NOTHING CAN TRANSFORM IT!!!

Also, Tom McClintock was interviewed last week and said CA is in dire financial straits...Schwarzenegger has created 4x as much debt as GRAY DAVIS! 2005 and 2006 had WINDFALL PROFITS from the real estate boon; but he said that July, 2008 there will be a 5BILLION DOLLAR DEFICITY! He also said that CA WILL BE "INSOLVENT" BY 2008!

"LA DIVE"; "LA SLUMS"; LA is the poster child for every single city in the US as to WHAT THEY DO NOT WANT TO BECOME!

At least the immigration bill was defeated and now we have to concentrate on finding someone to get a mayor and gov. who will clean up the city, deport the illegals, and stop the welfare giveaway! Tony Villar is washed up, thank God...He will ALWAYS be known as the ILLEGAL LOVER and the American public has shown that WE ARE SICK OF THE ILLEGALS AND THEIR LEADERS! Hillary is a dead horse, too!

People want to come to LA because they think it is all beach blanket bingo and Hollyweird.

They'll all be driving to see Lynwood Jail soon.

The convention business is huge for a city and we have missed out on it for years. This development will turn out to be the best thing to ever happen to South Park and LA overall.

They also all want to go to Hollywood and a light rail to Hollywood, Universal, Dodger Stadium, etc. is planned.

We need tourism to add to our income and the hotels are the key.

Sorry, Zuma, you're dead wrong on this one; go poke your smelly nose in someone else's business where you don't know what is happening.

Thank you for posting this. Wow. I hadn't seen a presentation like this before about "L.A. Live." Several comments:

1. I understand now why they were unable to raise enough money for this project from the private sector. Would ANY of you invest your own hard-earned money in this thing? Man, I sure wouldn't.

2. I predict they will run out of money long before this thing is completed, and ask City Hall to bail them out, with the same old refrain that's always used for massive boondoggles: "It'll pay through itself through increased tax revenues later." That, of course, never winds up being the case.

3. Are they @#$%ing kidding? I think my favorite line was that people will flock to this thing for Cinco de Mayo. Yeah, right.

Would you please provide empirical support for your assertion that a "lack" of hotels is the cause of the convention center's failure?

Also, if your source is the same people who predicted the convention center would be a huge success in the first place, justifying the expenditure of tax dollars thereon, doesn't that trouble you?

Here's the thing. The free market, capitalist economy is really good at figuring out which projects will become profitable, and which won't. It's not 100% accurate, by any means, but it's much better at it than politicians and staffers who have never actually worked in the real world, at real companies, trying to make real profits.

If you want to be an investment banker, go for it. Convince private investors to put their money in a project. But don't go into government and force me, through taxes on me to give subsidies to your buddies, to "invest" in a lame project that the private sector is unwilling to fund.

Peace out.

Funny you should mention that old brown bldg. across from Staples...just saw it yesterday from the 10 freeway. I had the same thoughts.

I took a driving tour around downtown the other day and there is no way anyone can remove the blight from all the skid row streets east of city hall. It's been there for 100 years and now it has spread north, south, and eastward. Solid Mexican bsrrios!

No wonder the midget mayor is never here....even he can't stand to work in LA! He's surrounded by his own people and we know he doesn't give a sh*t about his own people!!!

LA is sooooo depressing!

Zuma,

Aw come on man what if Eli Broad gave you a condo in LA Live and then you could walk downstairs to the museum to visit all your Grammys.

Wonder how much of this they are going to have scale down?

I have lived in Downtown for six years now. I'm a photographer and I am having a great time. i will probably never visit the LA live complex (tourist trap), but whatever. All you neysayers should leave our society and go live in the jungle and eat bugs. Why is it so surprising to you the way business is done here. It's the same way New York and Chicago were built.

To Anonomous, you say L.A. is depressing, but I think you are. If L.A. is so bad, leave; we'll manage fine without you.

If you don't like the construction, go live somewhere else.

Many people prefer the country to the city; only the free loaders are worried about their precious freebies being taken away from them.

Those of us who actually earn a living that permits us to live where we choose don't sit around and gripe about what someone chooses to do with private or public property; we just vote with our feet...walk away and go live somewhere else.

Walter understands this concept, because he does make a living; what about you, loser?

Just get in your van and park it down the way, say "Ensenada Perro" has a good sound, doesn't it?
