Personally, I don't know which story I am less interested in: Paris Hilton's jail thing, or the mayor's divorce? People who are happy and using this as an opportunity to slam him, are taking things personal.

Whether your a fan of this Mayor or not, the Mayor has shown great love and devotion to his children...and he will continue to do so and he will continue to share the parenting responsibilities with his wife...the cause of divorce is really a personal matter and each marriage can only be truly judged by the two people parties to the marriage...but, after divorce the real character of a person is revealed in how they parent, in how they stay committed to parenting together...May God Bless the Mayor and his wife in this endeavor...

There is nothing wrong with divorce. Sometimes it is the best thing in a family. This is a country of second chances, in Tony's case, even 5th or 8th chances.
But there is something wrong with someone who pretends to be a "family man" for the sake of political expediency. Tony and his consultants made him out to be a family man when for all intents and purposes this marriage was over in 1994 when Corina first filed for divorce. This points directly to the character of a person. What kind of man would enter into a committed arrangement only to shame and disrespect the other partner in a cess pool of selfish behavior, then turn around and profess his family credentials to a suckered public.
Too bad Tony didn't apply his self proclaimed discipline ethic to his family or his wife. A man's family is a direct reflection of his integrity - especially in our Mexicano community. All should be sacrfiiced for your family - a family shouldn't be sacrificed for your personal "all".

I'm not claiming to be an expert on our Mayor Villaraigosa, I'm just putting out there what I hear from his staff as they go get their Quizno sandwiches at the LA Mall during lunch time. He should remember that few on his staff are loyal to him, and all they want is to have his name on their resume. Once it's been on there long enough to show that they can survive, they're out the door before you know it. There's a lot of turnover in his staff, which is something that doesn't happen in a dedicated team

as someone who went thru this, tho not under the spotlight of gossips who claimed they were really just concerned cuz of character, yeah:
I stayed w/ a guy I increasingly had nothing in commone with and couldn't stand for too many years "for the sake of our kids," but my deepening despondence, the feeling that duty is cutting me off from feeling and real life... got so bad that my kids (8 & 11) finally begged us to divorce, cuz they liked each of us separately, when we were happy and ourselves, but the forced effort of putting on a public face for their school etc. was unbearable.
Now, they also don't have to pretend to the outside world that mommy and daddy are happy, and they are natural and happy kids.
They have two loving parents who are always there for them. We all feel so free from the pretense, that their dad and I can finally be friends, not resent each other.
Working thru to that point can take some time, give them that.

When one runs for political office, the first question his advisors ask is "How strong is your marriage? If it isn't strong, then bow out NOW." And when the question was asked of Villabarbosa, the answer was an obvious bow-out. Why? Perhaps the man is vying for a chance to be Number Two. Or perhaps he's going to run for Senate. Or perhaps he's going to cut is losses now and run before there's not much left to cut, savvy? Or perhaps someone else's team wants no chance of overloading the baggage cart. But then again, them that fall into that category have no baggage. They have freight.
In the not too distant past, which was pre-Don Jose, if you will, someone asked me if it was true that while the Mrs. was occupying the family home, the Councilman was living in an apartment alone, or at the very least spending more time there than elsewhere. From a woman who has met the Mayors wife several times, I would just like to say that he was very lucky to have her, and Mayor I believe your luck has just run out. She is and has always been very capable of taking care of herself. Many of us women consider Corina a very intelligent woman, and there is nothing wrong with really trying to make your marriage work. I feel really sad that Mr. Villaraigosa did not see his family as more valuable than his career or his lover. Divorce destroys families. He has spent most of his career as mayor doing amazing things for the city of Los Angeles. He has fought for many many issues facing our city. It seems ironic that after 20 years of marriage you would think that keeping his family together would be worth fighting for.
It's sad and shameful that Antonio decided to sacrifice his family por otras faldas. I do not have any respect for people like Antonio and Mirthala who do not have any integrity.
