"Loss of Enthusiasm" for the Mayor

Privately many of Mayor Villaraigosa's longtime supporters are expressing a "loss of enthusiasm" for the Mayor in light of the recent announcement his wife has filed for divorce and rumors of alleged marital infidelity. Duke Helfand, writing in the LA Times, says that allies of the Mayor are disappointed and angry with him that he "played into a stereotype about macho Latino males and that some of his public comments about his wife, Corina, have appeared disingenuous."

Click read more to see the rest.

But it gets worse for the Mayor. Columnist Mona Gable is calling on Presidential candidate, New York Senator Hillary Clinton to "dump Antonio" as one of her national campaign chairs. Gable says:
He's not all that great a mayor. He couldn't get his school reform bill through giving him power over LAUSD, even though he had several buddies in Sacramento carrying his water. The notorious May Day melee where the LAPD was caught beating up immigrants occurred on his watch. He acted like LA had the Olympics in the bag--then when it didn't come through, pouted like a two-year-old.

Hillary is under the illusion that she's getting a rising political star--a future governor of California! But she might want to do some old-fashioned reporting. Antonio isn't much liked even among LA's Latino political elite. He burned a lot of bridges in his relentless quest to become mayor.
Many of our readers have questioned where the Los Angeles Times has been in taking a critical view of the Mayor's divorce announcement. However, it now appears with the Helfand article and a column by Steve Lopez, the paper could be abandoning it's "cheerleader" role it assumed in the past.

Even with the tarnish on the Mayor with his marital woes, he can take solace in that - unless he actually does become Hillary's running mate - its at least two to three years before he stands for election somewhere.

But it's not all bad news for the Mayor - he did get a medal from UCLA Friday.

Latin Men in CD14

The Male chauvinist of this culture make the men seem to be superior to women and therefore their beliefs are that man has to be the head of the household, go out and work to provide financial support to the family, and as a household he is in charge of making the final decision concerning of things in the house. ..

Many Mexican women continue to experience domestic violence from a very early age, even as the world celebrated the 30th anniversary of International Women's Day on Thursday.

Cecilia, 40, was beaten by her husband for 18 years, twice a week - always when he had had too much to drink and had been in a motel with his secretary. Only after putting up with such behaviour for so long did she find courage in her desperation to report him and get a divorce.

Her ex husband - an influential man - sought revenge and managed to get Cecilia's monthly income reduced to about 460 dollars.

This happens to many women in Mexico, and most of them do not defend themselves because they are financially dependent.

The fact that they earn less than their male colleagues is hardly the most significant factor. Most have less education, they are beaten, raped, exploited and degraded.

The mistreatment of women and the over-blown importance of men starts very early on in Mexico. Many children see their mothers beaten up by their fathers, and replicate the pattern as adults - boys grow up to hit, girls grow up to be hit. That is how psychiatrists explain it in marriage counselling.

Strong and independent women are particularly vulnerable to being beaten by their boyfriends. A study reported Wednesday in the newspaper El Universal said that 31.5 per cent of girls between age 13 and 18 reported abuse, and noted that self-confident teenage girls were especially singled out for physical, sexual and psychological violence.

According to the study, many teenagers hit their 13-year-old girlfriends because they feel inferior, or simply because they feel entitled to use violence.

'Violence against women is the human rights violation which is most widespread in Latin America,' the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) said in its most recent report.

These problems are not new to the public in Mexico, and the fight against them is on the political agenda. Conservative President Felipe Calderon who was inaugurated in December appointed several women to join his government, and four of his 19 ministers are female.

Even the old though debilitated Party of the Institutional Revolution (PRI) - which held power continuously for over 70 years until 2000 - has now chosen as its chairman a strong woman, Beatriz Paredes. And the number of women presidents and defence ministers across Latin America has been rising.

But the financial daily El Financiero reported on Wednesday that only around 400,000 women hold posts of leadership in Mexico, a country with 104 million people. The absolute majority of Mexican women continue to live in the shadow and the service of men.

The slogan 'there is no development without equality between women and men' - omnipresent to mark International Women's Day - falls flat on its face in many sectors of Mexican society.

In Mexico and also in Central America, violence against women knows no barriers of wealth or social status. The machos do not hit their women because they are poor or desperate.

In Mexico City - a metropolis with 20 million people - violence against women is evenly spread across rich and poor neighbourhoods. Women can temporarily seek protection and a lawyer through shelters devoted to the cause.

In its posters, the National Women's Institute calls on battered women to change their lives.

'One day I decided ... not one more blow! And I reported him,' the woman pictured in the poster says.

This has had consequences - the percentage of divorced couples is currently at 10 per cent, compared to 3 per cent in the 1970s. The number of divorces have doubled in the past ten years - there were around 36,000 divorces granted by the courts in 1995 and over 70,000 in 2005.

Along with the male's refusal to contribute to the family income, violence is the main cause cited in petitions for divorce, and most sentences favour women.

Oh no...no wonder Semilla got approved:

from mayor sam comment section (nov 05):
Stern is more disturbed by another kind of lawmakers' trip, bankrolled not by campaign funds but by a nonprofit group, which can legally pick up the tab for any amount or destination.

Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez, for example, recently returned from a nine-day trip to Sweden and France to study universal preschools.

Núñez, D-Los Angeles, was a guest of the William C. Velasquez Institute, a nonpartisan group devoted to Latino voter empowerment.

Besides Núñez and three Assembly colleagues, the trip included Antonio Gonzalez, president of the institute, and Catherine Atkin, president of Preschool California, a group advocating voluntary preschool for the state's 4-year-olds.

Assemblyman John Laird, a Santa Cruz Democrat who traveled with Núñez, said the European visit provided an opportunity to see the pros, cons and challenges of universal preschool.

Laird said he did not feel lobbied at any point during the nine-day trip.

But Stern said such trips give a nonprofit group exclusive access to key legislators for extended periods of time, without being subject to spending limits.

"They say the best way to lobby legislators is to be on a private jet with them," Stern said. "Even if they want to leave, they can't. ... Like they say in the MasterCard ad: Priceless."

California requires lawmakers to disclose travel-related expenditures from their campaign accounts. Political contributions are private funds, but state law requires them to be used for a public purpose. Disclosures cover specific periods of time, ranging up to six months. They are available at the secretary of state's office or via the Web at www.ss.ca.gov. Abuse or extravagance can be difficult to identify because disclosure forms do not require politicians to:
* List the legislative, political or governmental purpose served by any trip.

* Identify which cities they visit or tie multiple expenditures to a specific date.

* State the flight destination for payments made to an airline.

* Identify whom a legislator met with or for what purpose when large payments are made to a restaurant, resort or other such venue.

Los Angeles, CA. According to retired L.A. Sheriff Sgt. Richard Valdemar, a 33 year veteran international gang specialist, Mexican drug cartels have infiltrated city councils and political campaigns in many small cities in Los Angeles County and other areas of the South Western United States. Details of this account are revealed in an Internet preview of a Full Disclosure Network™ four part interview series with Valdemar.

Full Disclosure Network™ presents, on the Internet, a FREE nine minute (9) preview from the series of interviews conducted by Emmy Award winning host Leslie Dutton with Sheriff’s Sgt.Richard Valdemar (ret). He describes the impact of the Mexican Mafia gangs, drug cartels and illegal aliens in American cities. Available FREE on the internet, 24/7, on demand, as a public service available at the URL: http://www.fulldisclosure.net/Programs/478.php

Here is a summary of Sgt. Valdemar’s Internet preview:

* Sgt. Valdemar cited the following cities as having been infiltrated by the Mexican drug cartels: Lynwood, Bell Gardens, Hawaiian Gardens, South Gate, Huntington Park., Vernon, Cudahy.

* Drug cartels set up phony businesses to launder drug money, usually used car lots, used tire shops that serve as a “front” for their operations.

* Sgt. Valdemar says it all starts when a small business, like a restaurant, is purchased by someone with drug money from Mexico, who sets up shop and starts inviting the city fathers to come for complimentary or discounted meals.

* Then invitations are extended to local police and other government officials, until the business operator is well established, with powerful friends.

* Drug money is used to send out smear campaign literature to destroy reputations of incumbent city council members and to finance the campaigns of challengers whose goal is to get a majority voting block on the city council.

* Once the drug cartel controls the city council, they fire the city attorney, city manager and start giving out contracts, like the trash collection contract, to their cronies.

The entire four-part interview series with Sgt. Richard Valdemar has been scheduled to run on 43 cable systems. Channels and airtimes can be found on the website at www.fulldisclosure.net

Since 1992 the Full Disclosure Network™ has been billed as “the news behind the news” and is an independent, educational, public affairs cable program hosted by Leslie Dutton. In 2002 the FDN program was presented with a Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the Southern California area for their spublic affairs eries entitled “L.A.’s War Against Terrorism”, featuring LAPD Chief Bernard Parks, L.A. County Sheriff Leroy Baca and other city officials. Previews of the programs are provided on the website as a public service.

But there is no doubt anymore, just as there was never any doubt with the scores of past friends, colleagues, "brothers", and one nighters that knew the real Antonio. It is time for the L.A. Time's reporters to start letting the L.A. public know just who the real Antonio is- you have all the stories. The Daily News is going to beat you guys again. Why don't you guys start by reporting on his first son he gave up for adoption. That's a nice post father's day intro. Then maybe you can segway into Richard and Martha and their four children, the family that Antonio destroyed - and they were his best friends! Most observers in East L.A. already know these stories, why do you think Parke keeps Antonio away - the public has a right to know. Continuing to shield Antonio calls in to question your integrity as journalilsts.

Good for Steve Lopez for not being afraid to really go after mayor. I haven't read anything this scathing and the truth to boot. LA Slimes is going after Rocky cause word is Antonio is mad at him. They're trying to kill the messenger but Rocky has a lot of support because he threw lil rich bitch back in jail. Its so damn easy for the reporters to find out who the other woman is, why are they playing games and not reporting?

June 24th those idiot illegals are marching again in Hollywood. Why aren't any reporters stating how much these marches are costing the legal tax payers of LA?

If you were born in Mexico and you stole your way into the country for a better life, then that means that life in Mexico is not so grand or you would be there. If your parents came and you were born here to a Mother who stole her way in here than isn't it time that you and your mother become citizens of the counrty that feeds you? Pride is great. But misplaced pride is just ignorant. Stand in line, pay your share and become American,

Is Antonio Villaraigosa linked to organized crime in Mexico? Mexican Mafia...his background has been a bit shady. Did he pursue office to launder money for the big bosses? It would be an easy way to do it, if in city hall, all of those contracts and transfer of funds. What a way to go Antonio, you have organized crime in your pockets...is this why tattood thugs surround you at certain office functions?

What about the Alatorre+ Villaraigosa+Vignali+Molina connection:

LA’s Underground Power Broker
The name Vignali receded into L.A. history after the “Pardongate” scandal of 2001, but questions remain about drug-dealing son Carlos and his real estate magnate father, Horacio, who just might be pulling the strings in the remaking of downtown L.A.

Tony Adams and his partner, Gerry Wehr, smelled something fishy when they arrived in Los Angeles back in 1994 to arrest Carlos Vignali, the target of one of Minnesota’s biggest drug cases. The Minneapolis narcotics officers had caught the 22-year-old Vignali on a wiretap conspiring to distribute crack cocaine in the Twin Cities. They checked into the Hilton on Grand Avenue under names known only to their local contacts at the DEA.

Within hours, they say, they received a call from defense lawyer Anthony Brooklier, who represented an alleged associate of Vignali. Strangely aware of how to contact the visiting officers, Brooklier, a high-paid mouthpiece for celebrities and accused gangsters, wanted to know what the officers were up to. Soon they would discover that Brooklier’s client had fingered not just Carlos Vignali but also Vignali’s father, Carlos “Horacio” Vignali, as major drug traffickers.

.....Today Adams and Wehr are back in the grind of smaller investigations in their relatively quiet northern state and are still steaming about their brush with the harsh realities of big-city law enforcement more than a decade ago. And Horacio Vignali — except to downtown insiders who are watching his real estate empire grow — is publicly shunned. He has been relegated to the history books for his effort to gain his son’s early release from prison, which drew support from a cadre of L.A. politicians, including Mayor-elect Antonio Villaraigosa. Splashed on news pages four years ago in what became known as “Pardongate,” the story was reduced to a soundbite in Jim Hahn’s 2001 campaign, when he attacked Villaraigosa for coming to the aid of an unsavory drug dealer.

Now, as Villaraigosa prepares to lead the city, many other officials who supported the clemency effort remain players in the downtown political establishment. And so does father Vignali, one of the most powerful property owners of a nice chunk of downtown real estate primed to be developed in the continuing remake of downtown Los Angeles.

Write a dissertation on sodomy in the Mexican Mafia. Those ultimate "values voters" — the EME — took profound umbrage at homosexual-rape scenes in Edward James Olmos’ 1992 movie, American Me. Two of the film’s Eastside consultants were punctually murdered, and Olmos sweated out several years as the target of angry veteranos. According to Hollywood gossip, the actor-director ultimately mollified his critics with handsome contributions to the cause of traditional values.

some law enforcement officials believed that Marroquin was a front man for the Mexican Mafia prison gang and that NO GUNS was a facade for illegal activity and a channel for public funds.

One was Richard Valdemar, a retired sheriff's sergeant and expert on gangs who led an investigation that resulted in the first federal racketeering trial of Mexican Mafia members; it resulted in the conviction of 13. Valdemar said the Mexican Mafia has a long history of using anti-gang and drug rehabilitation groups as fronts to acquire public funds.

"This is a major part of their operation," said Valdemar, whom Marroquin unsuccessfully sued for defamation of character in 2002.

Valdemar said he and others voiced these concerns to the Sheriff's Department and the city of Los Angeles.

I propose that Mayor Sam initiate "SONCHA WATCH". This being "DAY 7" After the "FAILURE OF ME" Press Conference, I propose that "SONCHA WATCH" rrmain in effect until the day that the "OTHER WOMAN" or "WOMENS", plural form, is revealed.

Why isn't Laura Chick N Shit going after how the hell DWP could overcharge $225 MILLION?? What will happen to city budget when they can't transfer from DWP? What about all the gang programs that have donated to all the politicial campaigns who has the guts to report the truth. Don't you think its interesting that NOT ONE CLOWNCIL MEMBER SAID ANYTHING about the DWP millions? Then in today's Daily News Chick N Shit passes the buck because $98 million wasn't collected. WHO THE HELL IS KEEPING AN EYE ON OUR MONEY. NOT THE MAYOR, NOT CLOWNCIL AND FOR SURE NOT LAURA CHICK N SHIT.

They're leaving that to your little tiny minds.

As for trying to dump the whole gang money scandal thing onto the Mayor as part of some Mexican Mafia: isn't it Janice Hahn who's been the advocate for that L. A. Bridges financial boondoggle, and now wants to raise taxes for gang initiatives (to get her mug behind any P R for it, as though the cops/ Bratton with the Mayor and other CC members, and the DA weren't already trying to do that).

And if these alleged scandals go back to 2000, isn't that when her bro was Mayor?

WASHINGTON DC NEEDS TO TAKE A LOOK AT MAYOR SAM'S THREAD (and post the link) to see what's going on in LA City Hall...but then George Bush would probably just get mad at me, too, for messing it all up...

BUT, hopefully, ONE decent US Attorney will look into this Nucklehead Nunez & Cahoots crew shenannigans.

BUT IF YOU BELIEVE WHAT I READ IN THIS SERIES OF EMAILS...it's a lot worse than posted here.

basically, HELL YEAH, MAV, Nuckhead, Cahoots crew are all puppets in the bigger international picture.

no wonder that semilla charter school got approved after an initial thumbs down.

Cause that's part of the scheme. A small part, but they obviously plan on making it a bigger part of the "training and education" process.

Where have we gotten to as a civilization when our leaders are all seemingly corrupt - and we just shake it off and wait for the next story.

Where are we when people care more about "reality TV" politics instead of facts and truth and getting things done?

Where are we when our damn politicians keep SAYING they listen to us but keep making deals for their own benefit?

Where are we when the press ignores stories out of fear of the politicians or fear that the politicians will spurn them? (Thank goodness for Steve Lopez and Dave Z)
