Special Order 40 Showdown?
Will Congress make L.A. chose between federal funds and Special Order 40? I'm guessing "no," but at least some in Congress are trying to make it happen.
Tonight Kevin James interviewed Congressman Tom Tancredo who said something to the effect that the House of Representatives -- or was it just a committee? -- had passed a bill that would deny federal funds to cities that prevent their officers from reporting illegal aliens to federal authorities.
It's a nice concept, but I doubt the Senate would pass it, and, as for Bush signing it, yeah, right. Plus, the City would probably circumvent the law by claiming officers are free to REPORT illegal aliens to federal authorities; they simply aren't allowed to investigate the subject in the first place.
The way to repeal Special Order 40 is to elect a mayor who will revoke it -- yours truly, for example -- and enough new City Council Members to sustain a veto of the resulting attempt by the City Council to reinstitute it.

Walter, where can we find out who has contributed to your campaign? Your last post made a big deal over who contributed to Mayor V.'s last campaign.
this is true, but still...it does seem that l a is losing out on fed funds by not respecting the laws, i.e., criminals who commit crimes should be investigated, and, if illegal, deported to wherever, or follow the legal consequences. But this city has explicitly told cops NOT to enforce that fed law, and so, by trying to cater to the latino "vote" even tho the gangsters aren't exactly most likely to vote...this city has lost federal LAW ENFORCEMENT funds.
There were three shootings on the 710 in the past week.
Two of the shootings were fatal, and the two suspects with police descriptions were of the "viva la raza" persuasion.

I can guess that we were listening to the same show last evening. Here is something else that Senator Norm Colemen of Minnesota is stating. Calls to his office are running 30:1 against any form of amnesty in the Immigration Bill. Maybe america is waking up. Lord I hope so.
Man do I feel vindicated. When I saw the special order 40 item on the agenda this week, my initial gut was that this would happen (feds would try to withhold money, like they did on the infrastructure money for going against toll booths). and that was my angle for public comment on the item.
And of course I was told to call Art Bell...only to have this happen the same f*cking week!
SO FROM NOW ON WHEN I TELL YO AZZ SOMETHING...F*CKING LISTEN...and let's not waste a bunch of time and money. Whether I tell yo azz condos were coming to Venice (and now they are), or AB 1381 is illegal, or LAX wage/Air Rights, skid row dispursion, "dumb growth" ( i revealed it about nine months ago -- LA Weekly finally confirmed/vindicated ZD), Water supply problems...whatever..JUST F*CKING LISTEN TO ZD...I mean, I'm already spending bus fare and my valuable time to tell you guys, to save your time, money and aggravation...would it make you feel any better, if I was right all the time, in a suit and tie?
POINT IS: Man, this stuff is so transparent...a bum of the street can crawl out of his van, tired and cranky...take the bus downtown to city hall, look at the agenda item for two seconds, and figure it out.
(That money will be withheld if you go against the FEDS on "opposition".) Wish the policy was as transparent as the politics.

MAN, do i have a chip on my shoulder...everytime I'm call this stuff (guru the shiz)...it just makes me angrier, cause it's so obvious...and they're walking around like the emperor's new clothes.
I was listening to Kevin's show last night and he said that the US House of Reps had PASSED the bill denying certain federal funds to "sanctuary" cities, and Tancredo said it was passed by the whole House (and apparently had the support of over 40 Dems). Probably not likely the Senate will go along, but maybe its an indicator that the House will be able to stop this latest amnesty plan. I found a copy of the story Kevin referened from the "Rocky Mountain News". Wonder if bigger papers will bother to print it?
p.s. Not taking a side, as to whether council is right, or wrong, for taking this stance...just how easy it is to predict the "tic for tac"...

BOTTOM LINE: The Federal government seems to think it's the UNITED States of America, not the INDIVIDUAL States of America. And it is a City's job to run the municipalities to allow the country to operate as a "whole" (holistic approach). But we know council likes to argue, "We don't think the Federal govt should be telling us how to run our city." Maybe Los Angeles should pull a succession (sic) move and become it's own union. That would make the steamroll process a lot smoother.
Keep riding the bues; the other riders will contribute to your gas money to keep you off if you don't take a bath now and then.

Thanks for the clarification -- and for providing yet another stunning example of media bias. That bill passing the House should be at least as newsworthy as the other bill getting stalled in the Senate. Both would have a huge impact on illegal immigration, but only the "politically correct" legislation gets any coverage. Wow.
I give Smith tons of credit and about time someone on that damn horse shoe who isn't afraid to vote against the rest. He was the only one who voted against the Special Issue 40 agenda item. This city is going down the toliet cause we have idiot council members who support the illegals. Has anyone ever seen the disgust, trashed, dirty, filthy district of Ed Reyes? There are vendors selling crap on every street corner. Food with tons of bacteria that has been sitting in the hot sun being sold and Ed could careless. His district has to be the nastiess in the entire city. Then you have Sleazy Huizy's district that is getting there because he too protects illegal vendors who are pigs and are dirty. They accept this because they have no class and are use to seeing filth. A man with class would immediately want it cleaned up but not those two.
Lets pass Special Order 41 and deport all those Glow Pencil Neck Freckled Cracker Trailer Trash White Ocean Crossing Rednecks.
