Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

The LA City Council just voted to spend $219 million for a building it could have bought for $92 million. Zuma, feed this into your "Bat Computer" and see who owns this building and how much the owner has given to Clowncil members.

David Z. writing in the LA Weekly reports that Westchester and Playa Del Rey residents who backed Mayor V over Mayor Poopy because of the previous Mayor's support to expand LAX may find themselves having been bamboozled; Mayor V's top guy at the Airport Commission is talking about - GULP - expanding the northern runway at the airport into Westchester and Playa Del Rey. I know how you feel, I was bamboozled too.

Bitter Bernie is still bitter. Now he's trying to delay the reappointment of William Bratton as Chief of the LAPD. Rick Orlov reports that the Bitter Man says " Due to the failure of the Police Commission to participate in an appropriate outreach effort or to create any criteria for reappointment, it is mandatory that the Commission allows the community to do its own due
diligence." Oh brother.

Some of our readers might try to call Walter Moore or even Governor Schwarzenegger racist because of their views on immigration laws, but a blog called The Right Scale has compiled shameful statements by a handful of Hispanic elected officials that could easily be classified as anti-White or anti-non Hispanic. The good thing is we know most Hispanics reject this hate speech; however its sad that its coming not from wackos like Hector Carreon but supposedly "mainstream" politicians.

Lloyd Levine nanny state disease is spreading. The City of Millbrae (where San Francisco International Airport is actually located) wants to ban foam food containers. A number of immigrant owned businesses that are just getting discuss why this will hurt their business.

This story is just weird. Capitol Weekly is reporting that the guy who invented testicle implants for dogs is opposed to Bachelor Nanny's mandatory spay and neuter bill. This is despite the fact that he would actually stand to make more money if there were more neutered dogs. Inventor Glenn Miller says that dogs neutered as young as the age the Bachelor Nanny wants to take the doggie's manhood away is actually too young and poses a health risk for the dogs.

Staples Center owner Philip Anschutz may be opening a local branch of his Examiner newspaper chain. This would be the first time a daily Los Angeles Examiner nameplate would hit local newstands in 45 years. Interestingly, the newspaper would have an indirect heritage link to the long defunct Herald-Examiner and its predecessor, the LA Examiner: Anschutz's new publication chain was started by his purchase of the San Francisco Examiner, also a former member of the Hearst empire like the Herald-Examiner.

And finally, We called it a while ago when we said they "jumped the shark," but someone else is declaring that LA Voice is dead. Another blog has hit the skids; Franklin Avenue reports that longtime aggregator lablogs.com has passed away.

Remember a few years ago when Riordan announced he was bringing the Examiner back? He created a web site, tapped Ken Layne as editor (which propelled Ken's ego into overdrive) and then dumped the whole scheme upon discovering he could get more media attention by having everyone believe he might run for governor in the recall.

I wonder if halogirlfromthecity is eating her words about how much Antonio will get in the city in 4 years compared to Hahn.

Uh oh. I think you called that one way off. Villaraigosa hasn't finished one project yet that he started.

He just runs off, from photo op to photo op, ignoring the city and letting his loser team of Riordan former staffers try to take care of the city. They haven't gotten anything done either. Sad, sad, sad.

Dear Bamboozled Mayor Sam:

You are turning into ZD; too much proximity.

Moving the North runways 340 feet North does not go into the neighborhood; it stays on property owned by LAWA. It requires an oh so minor adjustment of the Westchester Parkway, and intrudes not at all into the residential or, my favorite, the In-and-Out Burger.

So what's the big deal? Maybe you'd rather be taking off from LAX and have the wing of your airplane be nicked by one landing?

The new super liners have greater wingspans, that's the rub. And, they are more advanced and quieter.

The neighbors bought their homes at reduced prices because of the proximity to the airport made them less desirable and now, of course, the usual element of human greed sets in; I call it the "Bought a chevy but want a Rolls-Royce" syndrome.

The few vociferous neighbors should have made a firm deal with Lydia Kennard when they had the chance; now they have to acceed to the FAA and NTSA, who, if they determine the need is a safety issue, will trump their concerns.

They can sell their homes to LAWA if it is that bad, but, of course, it isn't.

Get over it.

Oh, and Riordan WAS running for Governor, that is, until he watched Arnold declare on Jay Leno that HE was running as well. That ended that.

Keep away from ZD; it's catching.

Riordan actually DID run for governor once, losing in the primary to Bill Simon, the forgettable guy who lost to Gray Davis in 2002, pre-recall.

As for the runways, people are being pretty fast and loose with terms like "expansion" and "into the neighborhood" so they can stir up frightened home and business owners. One might even say they're being "irresponsible" or even "dishonest," but then one wouldn't want to be accused of being anti-community, would one...

Get over yourself. I don't particularly have a position on the runway. However I do think regionalization is more effective than expanding LAX as it is.

The point is - as David is reporting - the Westchester/Playa Del Rey folks were told one thing by Antonio only to discover he wasn't going to do what he said he was.

Many of his women have probably been through the same experience.

And no one gives a shit about Riordan anymore. What is he like 85? Though he was one of the better Mayors LA has had.

LAWA has also only recently said that they want to put ALL of the super-jumbo aircraft onto the northern runways. This, after just finishing up spending something like $350 million moving and realigning the southern runways?

Big issue here is community mistrust of LAWA, which is not exactly known for being a good neighbor.

305, I recall Riordan saying he would only run if Arnie didn't. He never declared.

to 5:27 a.m.: don't you guys ever sleep? no wonder you don't have any money or a job, and poverty makes you all miserable...but as for Riordan, I don't recall if the last writer is right, that he never actually ran for gov; but if he did and lost, it's cuz he was too moderate to win that primary -- sad fact of state/nat'l party politics is, you have to win your own party first, and that means the right-wing republicans that control that party, while lefties control the dems: hence, riordan would have beaten gray Gray, had he gotten that far since everyone loved him but he was too moderate for the kooks who controlled his party. -- ditto now w/ hillary, who is tops among the dems, but it's the more moderate Obama who would have the best chance against Giuliani, another moderate who may be done in by the right wing of his own party in the primaries first.

Memo to Antonio: help steer Hillary more towards the middle as there are a lot of people who hate her, she did used to be pretty smug before she toned down, now she's sounding too moderate to some of the dems, but that's a good sign, let voters see the "new" hillary.

132, thank you for illustrating the philosophy of the modern Democrat Party - all style, no substance.

Anything to advance personal power.

Everyone says Antonio should say this or Hillary should move to the moderate position here, etc. We all seem to acknowledge the transparency of this act - who's left to be fooled by it?

to 3:03/last writer: this was a general observation about political parties, nitwit, about why riordan was the most popular candidate but he didn't get into the big show cuz he was too moderate/ liked by all, to be acceptable to his right wing. Ditto with Hillary -- who can use tony's help, no matter what some blogs are saying today. There's a classic saying: primary campaigns go to the fringes, the election to the middle.

If you don't like this system, the alternative is the multi-party coalition parliamentary system; other than Britain and stable western european countries (not counting Italy), this means a constant struggle to stay in power and is even more prone to pandering than ours. Take your pick.
