Possible Reasons Why Chief Bratton SUPPORTS Driver Licenses for Ilegal Immigrants of California
It seems like everyone's favorite Police Chief, William Bratton lost a few fans by publicly supporting driver licenses for the illegal immigrants of California.
I think everyone in the City, except the Mayor, thinks this guy is the best guy in the world for the job. So much so, it has left a few people wondering if the Chief has finally "sold-out" to politics. (Say it isn't so!)
So I put in a call to one of my homies at LAPD, who repeatedly clarifyied that he doesn't speak for the Chief; but I think these ARE the points that need to be made, for those hoping for some kind of damage control. But it isn't going to be easy. Because there are some, who at the end of the day, will ALWAYS feel it is wrong to give a legal State permit (driver license) to anyone who is illegal.
But for those who are interested in hearing possible reasons why there IS support for this -- especially since it was already approved by Senate -- here's the pitch:
First of all, although Cedillo intitally fought against it...the licenses will have a big red mark on it, to distinguish it from a regular DMV license (with all membership priviliges, like voter registation and recognized by homeland security as vaild ID for air travel).
And I am told THESE licenses will be a lot tougher to get. You can't just stroll into DMV, fill out a piece of paper, then line up to take your picture: It will require multiple forms of documentation. (Fingerprinting, maybe?)
And the person from LAPD who I spoke with, says the general feeling is that this can truly be a way to DOCUMENT the currently UN-documented. So that in itself can help, whereas the State will have a record of these currently undocumented residents/help ID people who are here.
Then insurance companies can decide to accept these "driver-only" licenses to insure these previously uninsurable drivers.
The Head of Homeland Security has already spoken out AGAINST these licenses, so they probably won't be a vaild form of ID to board an airplane. (A big concern for many, I think. But, critics will say, not now...but next.)
And as of today, they won't be a valid form of ID for voter registration. (But even ZD feels that could easily be next, with people like The Mayor, Nunez and Cedillo in office.
BUT, Sean Hannity told me on-the-air, when I aksed him about it, that Gov. Arnold PROMISES he will veto it. And for the critics, hopefully that's no "True Lie." So all I can add to this is, Arnie and Nunez chompin' cigars together, at the Gov's Brentwood home??? YIKES!
p.s.: A much smarter and more honest talk show host, Mr. KABC feels Arnold WILL pass it, right after he is re-elected.

The explanation the copper gave makes pretty good sense. These licenses would actually protect us FROM illegals by keeping track of them, forcing them to get insurance, forcing them to actually know how to drive safely, and dragging them out from the shadows.
But the palefaces who are quaking in their boots at the thought of the inevitable minoritization of the shrinking majority aren't prepared to let logic and useful public policy win out over their negative, fearful emotions. And they threaten Governor Immigrant with political oblivion if he doesn't veto the bill yet again.
The principle they claim to be standing up for is a mask for Latino-bashing. Anyone who can't see that Mayor AV spends most of every day kissing the copious asses of the shrinking white middle class that still dominates at the polls in order to further his political career is wearing a blindfold or is more of a racist than previously admitted.

The Venice room is catchy and it has that certain classic feel to it. Once you enter you get the urge to order a scotch on the rocks, or sweet vermouth with a twist. It just has that classic old school feel, an almost "shining" feel to it.
The drinks are pretty cheap here. I recall ordering a pitcher of Corono and only paying $4.00. There is also a dining room area but was closed when I arrived. They have this way cool old juke box and a bunch of tunes from back in the day.

To get to the Venice Room, you cruise south from Monterey Park, past the informal demarcation zone separating the city's Chinese neighborhoods from its Latino ones, and into a part of town that feels very much like Greater Montebello, hard by the Pomona Freeway and just a nine iron north of the public golf course. The Venice Room is marked by a swath of bright neon that looks like something from 1950s Chicago; the small parking lot is filled with pickup trucks and carefully tended old cars.

I think Mayor Sam did more damage to Antonio's campaign than actually helping it. His blog exposed quite a bit about the real Antonio. Remember June from the Venice Room or all those 14th District bloggers - those were exclusive to Mayor Sam and Parke wasn't all too happy about that.

And of course, the zed-dogg knows this is true because someone (who got kicked off the organizing committee, our didn't get to sleep with the sponsoring organization's PR woman like he wanted to), sent you an "expose" e-mail pissing on the whole thing, right?
And e-mails are NEVER wrong, or vindictive, or retaliatory! Not in L.A. public affairs, anyway.
It couldn't be that the costs for people attending (if they even existed) were only made a bit lower by the city waiving fees, making it possible for the event to happen in the first place.
In most cases, the city can't "waive" enough fees to absorb all the organizing costs, and someone has to pay something. Raise all sponsorships, so it's free to everyone, and you start losing sponsors. Lose sponsors and you have to raise other sponsors rates, then lose more (or go BACK to charging people to attend).
Catch 44 (that's a double catch 22).
You also never know until people show if you can even break even. Who covers the losses if you don't? Not the city, not the sponsors. If you luck out and make a handful of bucks, people say you're "profiting" from the event at city expense (but the organizers, volunteers, bare-wallet community groups are the ONLY one's on the line, if things go into the red)!
How many large-scale community events you planned Dogg-breath?

Where in the World Is Antonio Villaraigosa? That's exactly what the people in his district have been asking since 2003. He spent more time in the district during the 5-6 month campaign for council than he has in the 18 months since. And he's got the frequent flyer miles to prove it.
I don't know who's faster in commenting on these things: MEAT and the paid hacks spinning for Tony Villar or the bar owners who oppose him.
New blog within a blog... IS MAYOR SAM STEALING IDEAS AGAIN??
No offense, MS, but this was supposedly the title of a long-running joke among Pacheco's campaign staff in 2002, when ADV first carpetbagged into the district in order to run against him. He moved into the very last house on the very last street in a little hidden, east-edge L.A. community called Hermon -- you know where the dog parke name riled people up recently. (No kidding, his backyard was technically in South Pasadena).
But that wasn't the joke -- when he first started running (after the move), his staff told one newspaper he had moved to Highland Park (across the river from Hermon), he told another paper he was on the edge of Eagle Rock (3-5 miles from the actual rental), and a third paper printed he had moved to Monterey Hills. So everyone was asking then, "Where in the WORLD. . .?"

For the past several months I have found it interesting that MEAT keeps referring to other contributors as dum dums. Doesn't he know who he works for? Let's take a look at who the real dum dum is. Tony Villar has failed the bar four times. He got thrown out of Cathedral High not for sticking up for his friends in a racial fight against St. Francis, as he claims, but because he got busted with drugs, if he had good grades the good Christian Brothers would have given him a second chance. He flunked out of Roosevelt High. He still brags about his 1.7 GPA at UCLA. And Peoples College of Law, come on! Other notable graduates of this school are Gilbert Cedillo and Maria Elena Durazo, two other wanna be lawyers who routinely failed the bar and fell back into their current positions, just like Tony.

Sacramento I think you scare Carne. Mijo Meat we must scare the hell out of you otherwise you wouldn't make fun of us and posts here daily with your spins. Its obvious the LA Times is pro ADV and Daily News is ant-Hahn. OOOHHH Meat the stories in today's papers are scary. Obviously letting the voters known what a scumbag your pal AVD is worked in 2001 and will work again this year. We don't forget! People need to know that Antonio is against gang injunctions that's why he doesn't give a crap about murders in his own district.
If I recall correctly, those ads highlighted Tony's weak voting record on crime in Saramento. And they also pointed out the whole Vignali affair, the drug kingpin who was pardoned and then Tony later lied about not being involved eventhough he personally sent a letter to the president. What the ads didn't point out is Tony's exensive relationship with Vignali and the person who introduced him to this drug dealer, Ron Martinez, Gloria Molina's husband and Tony's best man at his wedding.
Regarding the transportation stuff, where was Tony ten years ago. Since 1992 Tony has served as Gloria Molina's alternate on the MTA Board. But his only role has been to slide contracts over to Ron Martinez through Frank Villalobos and Barrio Planners. The Honorable Congressman Edward Roybal was able to secure over a billion dollars in federal money to build an East L.A. subway. It took him 30 years of congressional seniority to get this through. It was to be his crowning achievement. Yet, after 15 years, there still isn't a subway in East L.A.. But well connected contractors and their consultants - Ron Martinez - have gotten very wealthy. But my sources tell me a federal investigation is under way since this is federal money and since Cooley won't go after a Supervisor's husband - he knows what happened to Lee Baca's budget when he bucked the Board of Supervisors.
The question you have to ask yourself MEAT is what's worse, the way the Tony attack ads got out or whether their content is true or not. Tony can't deny these attacks, or for that matter the Ricardo Torres' attack pieces. And he never will deny them because then he will have comitted the ultimate sin for a politician, being caught with a bold face lie. Remember, Clinton wasn't impeached for his escapades in the oval office but for lying. Tony can lie to his constituents but he can't lie about his character.
Antonio Stealing Ideas Again?
Ditto the LAT. In their just-out story about "big ideas and promises" from the candidates in the mayoral race, Tony V. is NO-where to be found. In fact, he's the only major contender not mentioned at all in the Times.
Good thing he made the radio. MEAT, you better tell AV to stop payment on the check for whoever's handling his PR these days (hopefully not F-H), they need the money for legal fees.

It looks like he handed his staff the last councilmember's June 2003 transition memo and said, "white-out Pacheco's name, and add the words 'still working on' in front of eveything on the list. Then circulate it to all the usual suspects. They're gullible yocals -- they believed me when I said I wouldn't run for mayor, they'll buy anything!"
BTW, who the heck puts out an 18-month councilmember's accomplishments recap. The usual is at the end of every year (12 months, 24 months, etc.), like a "state of the district" report. Oh, that's right -- guys running for mayor mid-cycle like ADV put out conveniently timed 18-month recaps in the final weeks before the election.
Hmmm, is that then really just "campaign literature" being produced on the taxpayer's dollar under the guise of another "service" to the district.

Interesting that sleazy bag Laura Chick would give the mayoral candidates (who can't think for themselves) the 12 page memo right before the mayoral debate on Monday. If Villaraigosa can implement those ideas he purportedly "stole," then more power to him. These ideas have been around for a long time. The City has a bunch of great ideas, but it takes leadership and its takes money most importantly.

What has Antonio really done? He's clearly stolen credit for other people's ideas. He moved into a neighborhood to win an election by making a promise he knew he wouldn't keep. He touts a major initiative to bring biotech to Los Angeles and resigns from that failure quietly. It's all talk and charisma with Antonio - and that's not a fuel you can run a city on. Hell, he can't even run his own council district.
You are hysterical but right on the money Sacramento. That conversation was exactly one we had last night at a meeting. CD14 staffers are arrogant losers who don't give a crap about the community and could care less then return a phone call. So many people are using 311 to get things done and even directly calling city depts. How sad is that? Our tax dollars paying for a bunch of morons who aren't doing their job. C'mon didn't someone say they didn't even know there were 5 homicides in their community in January alone.
Villaraigosa runs for office and gets 56 percent. Spends half his time out of the district and city helping Kerry lose the presidential race and running for future offices, breaks his principal promise (not to run for mayor), gets at least some folks angry enough to try and recall him, secretly squirrels away big bucks to jump somewhere else in another year. Then tries to screw small communities out of their identity for campaign bucks, brings in out-of-town hacks to run his local offices and (allegedly) provides the lousiest constituent service since the "Padrino" Snydner, and just 18 months later ends up with an 81 percent approval rating. He's not a candidate, he's a GOD! He may be too good to be just a mayor.

I am going to have to agree with Wyatt. I saw Mr. Moore speak at a Republican event a few weeks ago. His entire campaign, at this event, was "I am Republican, vote for me" and then "The Republicans who don't support me are engaged in a conspiracy" referring to the County Committee that refused to endorse him. Antonio has been telling his constiuents from day one he didn't have any money to help the community. Look at the State Campaign website where he has over $700,000 and see where he donated his campaign money. $40,000 to Neighbor to Neighbor and $1,000 to Housing Authority. Not one penny to CD 14 organizations. I hear people are jumping on the bandwagon wanting to help get him OUT.

Here's a fact, I live in Boyle Heights and Tony took $1,000 from Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council and is asking for money from Highland Park, El Sereno etc. As far as the NBC survey it's obvious to all that Tony put his people on it to change the numbers. The first day with over 400 voting it was 63% to get rid of him. He's a hypocrite re public safety. I know from the horse's mouth his own field deputy that he provided buses for those gangbangers in Estrada Courts. The whole city nows.

No one has been hurt more than residents like me who lives in CD14. Antonio has done absolutely NOTHING since he came in last year. You can say what you want about Pacheco however, now all of Antonio's supporters have jumped shipped and now saying they wish they would have voted for Pacheco.
Antonio is nothing more than a crook, liar and egotiscal idiot! You're right when CD 14 residents find out where he spent his campaign money collecting those signatures will be a breeze. The word is already out from Boyle Heights to Eagle Rock.

I like Chief Bratton and like Zuma couldn't understand why he would support the bill cause everyone I know is saying Hell No to Cedillo. 1. I am not a Republican. I used to be, but I'm not any more. I'm a "decline to state" independent, for reasons explained in my Martini Republic interview. I'm pro-choice, pro-equal rights for gays, and pro-taxpayer.
2. I did NOT remember that the person who made the "report" about my address that day was Alger. I appreciate your pointing it out, as the "report" on my speech was grotesquely incomplete, inaccurate, and misleading.
3. The "report" on my remarks omitted to mention, for example, the part of my speech where I said Republicans needed to stop insulting Democrats, and stop believing that they are stupid merely because they disagree on policy. I stated that policy discussions needed to be much more civil, and one should try to persuade one's opponents, not insult them. I said that the people in both parties actually have more in common than they have dividing them. All of that was completely omitted from the "report," on my speech which, it appears from your posting, was made by Alger.
4. I'm disappointed but glad that you connected the report to the person for me. I could never in a million years trust the author of that distorted account of my speech. The account reflects either serious cognitive problems or intentional misrepresentation, neither of which is a particularly desirable trait in a politician.
5. Just out of curiosity, how in the world did you wind up writing about that, and doing so in the middle of the night? I'm glad you did, but I'm curious...
5:34, the solution isn't to "figure out who they are" - it's to not encourage more illegals to come here by offering them more and more privileges and to encourage them to go back.
They've got a country down south that needs their hard work. After all, if illegals "built" L.A., like Pancho Villaraigosa said, just imagine what they could do with Mexico City. It'll be great. They just have to trust the mayor's wisdom.
P.S. Nor do I appreciate the quotations falsely attributed to me. I never never never used the word "conspiracy" when referring to the L.A. County Republican Party. So when Alger -- if indeed he's the one who posted the original comments -- inserted a comment about conspiracy in quotation marks and attributed it to me, that was another example of a lack of cognition or integrity.

There was a news item on the radio Saturday that might teach us something. A good news/bad news kind of story.
Some small town mayor in Georgia had all the illegals living in town kicked out recently. The town's official population is about 750 (I said it was SMALL), and the estimate of illegals was about 250.
Most of the illegals worked at a local chicken cannery, so now the cannery is scrambling to replace a large percentage of its workforce that was removed all at once. They're even getting applicants from the nearby WalMart, since the cannery pays more than the WalMart (so that's the good news).
The bad news is that a number of small businesses in the town have seen their patronage drop by as much as 80%! That's because the illegals spent their cannery earnings in the town's retail shops, and those local businesses, mostly white- and black-owned, are hurting since they were run out of town.
Ironically, one of the small convenience stores is owned by the same mayor who kicked the illegals out. I wonder how long he can stay in business with 80% of his customers no longer around. Apparently his own brother - another of the town's prominent citizens - has criticized him for his decision.
Might there be something the "kick the illegals out" crowd isn't taking into consideration when they go on about this issue? Something like the health of the local and regional economy, and the price of food?
