Mayor Lashes Out At KFI's John and Ken

The Mayor used his time away from City Hall, as he was attending the 4th Annual Impact Awards at The Regent Beverly Wishire Hotel, to bash KFI's John and Ken.

The Awards honored, "Top Los Angeles Spanish language DJs who encouraged the peaceful immigration march."

All the spanish-only language journalists, DJs and TV news reporters were there to cover this spanish-media only event. (Can you imagine throwing an awards lunch in this City and only including English speaking media? YIKES! At least Big Boy was there!)

So the Mayor took this media opportunity, in front of the all spanish media/viewers/readers/listeners, to weigh-in with a seemingly well rehearsed, impromptu speech about a very real and very important issue affecting the city: Not LAUSD/Education, not LAPD, not Affordable Housing...but John and Ken.

Mayor V. said, "We know what a positive impact immigrants have had on our society. Don't let the hate mongors -- and let me just take a moment with cameras rolling -- John and Ken. Two people who get on the radio, every day, who share a commitment to dividing America. Who demonize our immigrants. Who single out people like Tony Valdez* because he has the courage to talk about immigration, a duty, to stand up and speak out fairly on the issue. Let us say to them, 'Shame on you! Shame on you for dividing America.' Make no mistake, WE will stand up! WE will speak out!" [Lots of crowd applause.] (You're complaining about dividing, and you are saying, "WE will...".)

* Tony Valdez is the Fox 11 News report, who was recently reassigned AWAY from covering any immigration issues, for comments like: You took this land! YOU'RE the immigrants! You KILL people! (In reference to the Conquest of California from Mexico in 1846. 1846!)

But those are the words the Mayor of Los Angeles, and future Govenor hopeful, was praising on camera. So feel free to comment below, pro and against.

My only comments are that John and Ken ARE towing the line on the anti-ILLEGAL immigration tip. I haven't heard them criticize "documented" (legal) immigration.

Now, it has been brought to my attention by a freind (whom I admire a lot for his insights on many other issues), that many Mexican immigrants don't recognize the distinction between legal and illegal immigration, referring to the 1846 conquest of from Mexico. Does the Mayor make this distinction? Because I did only hear him refer to "immigration", not "illegal immigration." So I would be interested to know if John and Ken have spoken AGAINST "documented/legal" immigration; did the Mayor have it wrong; or does he, too, feel all immigration is o.k.?

By his praise of Tony Valdez' comments, it appears he agrees with my friend.

The reasons they singled out "courageous" Tony Valdez is because he's an idiot.

Here's the audio of Valdez that ZD mentioned.

John and Ken milk the illegal immigration issue for ratings. However, they don't really care about it -- aside from its profit potential for them -- as evidenced by their endorsement of Bob Hertzberg for mayor, a man who was on the Board of Directors of MALDEF.

Also, those, like the Mayor, who ignore the distinction between ILLEGAL immigration, on the one hand, and LEGAL immigration, on the other, know exactly what they're doing. The technical term is "attacking a straw man." Rather than accurately stating their opponents' position (i.e., opposing ILLEGAL immigration), they misstate their opponents' position to cast them in an unfavorable light.

The Mayor and others then engage in making what's called "argumentum ad nauseum," i.e., they endlessly repeat the same phony straw man argument so people new to the issue will be misled into thinking the dispute is about immigration. It's not. The dispute is about ILLEGAL immigration.

What a wetback name. When the time comes for these illegals to leave, he is going to be the first and you, mayor midget, will be leaving after him. American citizens have had enough of this crap of you,knuckle-head Nunez and one bill Gil keep giving away our tax dollars to these illegals.

Hey you midget, why don't you debate John & Ken on the issues? You won't though because you're all talk, no action, punk! Now that is a typical Mexican for you!Debate them! Come on. Let's see if you can handle it. Come on Pollogrosia, debate John and Ken!

Villareconquista's rant just proves he is just as demented as Tony Valdez. Too bad the citizens of Los Angeles can't detail the mayor to do something productive like personally filling up potholes in former council district, much less the downtown with his buddy Tony Valdez.

Antonio will not be a major political player. He's too stupid, too greasy looking and too short. His ears are nice and big, which could have helped, but he's deaf to the will of the voters. And he fucked the Terminator on the election endorsement. Stupid move from a stupid man. If Guliani is too liberal to get elected, do the math. It isn't happening. And that is a Good Thing.

Someone on MS said once that MS does not represent Los Angeles as most of the posters are anti immigration, conservative, republican. That is probably true. But, MS does represent the country. Where is MAV going to go with that record, that staff, and those skeletons? Straight to the unemployment line after his short stint ruining LA. Especially when his LAUSD takeover photo op gets stuck in the courts. There is no hope. If you support him, find some other jackass liberal to back in 2008.

Tony is a former leader of MEChA (the "liberating Aztlan" folks) who, right after being elected, went to Mexico and went beyond simply encouraging further illegal immigration, he said that Mexico would play an important role in his policies. Mexico will play an important role in his policies. He can be the Mexican pundit for a major cable news station. No, wait, he can't think and talk at the same time. That won't work. Ok, he can be the Mexican lawyer for immigration rights. No, wait, it took him how many trys to pass the bar, and what is the name of that school he got a degree from? OK, he can be the Mexican liason between LA Mexicans and Mexico Mexicans. Does anyone know if MAV and his lazy staff speak Spanish?

Things have been busy at ChangeLA.com.

Thursday, I put up a posting about the cost of doing business in LA. We're falling behind in creating new jobs in this city and the current business tax system is a major reason for that. As we've seen in the last few weeks, the current Mayor hasn't been able to get the reforms done that so many in the community are calling for. I encourage you to go to the site and look at the map showing how we stand versus cities in the area.

To me, the most exciting recent development at the site has been the interest many of my staffers have been taking in posting on the blog. There have been posts from Ed Takashima, Matt Szabo, Adeena Bleich and Brian Hay. I'm proud of all of them for joining the discussion of the issues in LA. They have all had different experiences in life, in politics and certainly in working for me. I hope you'll get to know them.

Lastly, I've been thinking a lot lately about the role of the Internet on our democracy. Things have changed in politics in the last year thanks in large part to what is happening on web sites and in e-mail inboxes across the country. The best thing to come out of this has been the ability of people who heretofore have felt they didn't have a voice to speak about what they believe. That's why I was so disappointed with the recent news that the 4th Floor Blog, a site dedicated to the inner workings of LA city government, was calling it quits. I'm glad to see that new sites have sprung up to fill the void, because no matter who is on the City Council or who is the Mayor (especially if it's me!), the public should be able to see what goes on at City Hall. Transparency is critical and should be encouraged.

Please take a look at the site and, as always, let me know what you think we are doing well and what we can do better.

Bob Hertzberg

RE: Driving Mr. Mayor! Wow, to get the chance to cruise down LA's by-ways and highways at record speeds with His Honor himself! What a treat...Is he going to shave, read the paper, freshen up his makeup, sip a Triple Mocha Non-FatLatte while munching on low-fat blueberry scone?! Is His Honor going to get frustrated like the rest of us, because of the breakneck speed he's crawling along at...Or is he going to look for one of his favorite shortcuts to Downtown! If he's not doing one or all of the above, he isn't a true Angelino...or he's been holed up for to long down in Pedro!
Heh, here's an idea for a fundraiser...Maybe the funds could go to some worthwhile NGO...Once a week, each of the mayoral candidates have to start towards City Hall from the same spot...The winner gets to donate the cash prize to their favoirte charity...It could be on a rotating basis...Pedro, the Valley, Mt. Washington, South LA...That we, they could experience the traffic frustration felt by Angelinos first hand...and we'd also get a chance to see how well they really know the City and it's Streets...!
Not since the legendary Big Daddy Hahn, has any of our elected officials been able to tell you what is happening everywhere in their district..Kenny could tell you what was on all four corners of every intersection in his district! Maybe Jimmy and the rest should have studied at the feet of the Legend!

As one who voted for succession, my worst fears are coming true. City "fathers" lobby for increased taxes, bond issues and spending other monies that we don't have while doing nothing to cut unnecesessary (eyes of the beholder, I guess) spending. We can't afford police but can afford $11 billion for a goofy airport plan? 80 years to fix a broken sidewalk?
Blowhard Bratton's publicity hack getting $150k per year and a city gun(?) to pretend to be a cop? The mayor is looking more like Alfred E Neuman every day. Gimmie a break!

Usually I don't suffer from writer's block, but I really can't think of a
good way to say goodbye for now. After some lengthy discussions, and a few
cocktails, it has been decided that the now infamous blog will come to an
end.

Over the few months, over 4000 people visited this site each day - a number I
would have never dreamt of when I stared. I have no doubt that many of you
out there are relieved that the Fourth Floor blog is disappearing. I am
certain that many Councilmembers and the Mayor are happy to know that this
site will no longer chronicle their daily activities, indiscretions, and
mishaps.

There are many reasons for my sudden departure. Sadly, the overwhelming and
surprising success of this blog has become its greatest detriment.

Principally, the blog is closing because interest in my identity.

Unfortunately, City Hall interest in who is running the blog has compromised
my ability to protect confidential sources who have revealed some very good
stories - many of which I am proud to say have been picked up on by the mainstream
media. Additionally, the amount of time it takes to run this blow, have
grown to unmanageable proportions - since I have always run the blog on my
own time.

I want everyone to know how sincerely I will miss your comments, complaints,
support, small talk, and ideas. However, I am honored that so many of you
visit my page each day and are willing to share your thoughts and ideas so
freely.

Building up, maintaining and promoting a blog like this one is a great
challenge. Ending this is truly bitter sweet, but it is undoubtedly the
right thing to do.

Finally, I want to give my special thank you to all those who have helped me
the most to produce and maintain this blog site.

To that one very special person - and you know who you are - thanks for being my rock

Food for thought: Could your decision to cease posting the FFB be based on Kevin Roderick's spiteful attempt to out you on his blog?

I'm disappointed to hear you're ending the FFB. I realize it must take a lot of your personal time to manage. The FFB has become part of my morning routine and I'll miss reading about how people really feel with my morning java.

Some have said that the FFB just regurgitates whatever is on the front cover of the newspaper, but I think they've failed to realize that what is unique about the FFB is the comments, debates, suggestions, provocations and exchanges from insiders about the latest and greatest in our vast metropolis.

The FFB used to be a safe place to confide what's really going on, but thanks to people who missed the point of the FFB and felt it more important to identify FFS1, the gigs up.

And to those who say that 4,000 hits a day is minimal, I say that it's just about right. I don't believe that this site was originally created for those outside the fourth floor, but its popularity escalated to what it is today or at least what is was.

Lastly, the FFB wasn't anti-Hahn or anti-Parks or anyone else for that matter. A reporter's job is simply to do just that, report. And if the truth or the news hurts, then so be it. As they say in the entertainment industry...there's no such thing as bad publicity.

FFS1, I do hope you'll reconsider your decision. Anything else would be a cheap imitation.

I hate to see it go but can't help pointing out that elected officials cannot stop this kind of information distribution. Of course, another blog will pop up and everyone who chimed in here will go there. Clearly there's a need and someone's gonna' have to fill it. It's amazing how in just a short period of time this small forum got under the skin of the city's decision-makers. Good job! And to GOOD BYE, 4000 hits a day is good, especially considering this thing was just getting off the ground. You must work for one of those thin-skinned electeds who got a little bruised. Get over it. Ironic how your sorry butt kept comin' back, as with many others who criticized it.

Prior to the demise of FFB Fuzzy Fox mentioned the installation of ex- Edison managers Enrique Martinez, Harold Lindsey & Ed Miller into DWP. What's up with that? Now I see that Edison has to refund $35M to the State due to some fraudulent claims for their safety programs. Wasn't H. Lindsey in charge of safety @ Edison? Geez you'd think with all these lawyers (Lindsey, Tom Hokinson, etc.) running things there would be more of an effort to clean up DWP. Oh wait didn't Hokinson work for J.
