The Post debate spin

So yesterday Tony Villar and Jim Hahn had a debate. And nobody showed up, there were empty seats in the Museum and empty seats in the press box. The number of reporters was much lower than the 1st debate at the Museum of Tolerance.

The Chief was all over the place -- the mood inside the debate was very partisan, pro-villar and pro-hahnistas equally matched.

The most energetic point of the debate was when Jim Hahn said there wasn't much in the e-mails -- then Villar quickly retorted "there's not much in your administration either."

Depending on how you look at it -- most folks believe Hahn needed a homerun, and it appears all he did was safely bunt on to first base. Villar would not let any attack go unchallenged, without reframing the mayor under his own terms.

Villar kept on saying "fresh start" genius to whomever came up with that pivot from the attack on Hahn. "We can't afford four more years of corruption probes and FBI investigations, we need a fresh start."

Hahn's response, "stop using innuendo and rumors". Very weak response.

I am also hearing that Hahn's money problems are getting much worse, not better.

Poor Chief Parker. You couldn;t leave well enough alone. Mayor Sam comes back and you just have to spin for Antonio cause its looking bad. What ADV people yell at you for not doing anything to help? Just look at all the media today where all reporters are saying Hahn was indeed the winner. Could it possibly be that ADV has lost his little fire? That circus of the same supporters at Canter's was lame.

I was shocked to learn that the Vignali family has a business right in CD14. Coincidence? I don't think so. You would think any smart crook would not have a business right in the same district as the guy you gave money to and wrote a letter getting off your drug dealing son. Reporters should go after that story. Yes, ADV it was 9 yrs ago but seems you've kept the same guilt by association with the family. ADv should be on America's Dumbest Criminals.

Jimmy is running about $30,000 a day since the Primary, on a good day.

Antonio is running a little less than $100,00 a day.

Next filing, May 5th, 5:00 P.M.

Kam's "We'll have enough money" is in doubt. Hard to tell, however, because of Independent Expenditures.

The Unions have kicked in pretty strongly and may do $1,000,000 but no one believes that Miguel will savage Antonio as viciously as Jimmy would like.

More likely the Union money will puff Jimmy, not attack Antonio.

Jimmy needs to reduce Antonio to a convicted dope dealer to win, same as he did last time. No one thinks that will work again, except Kam Kuwata and Bill Carrick. Maybe they are right, but doubtful.

Last debate on Channel 34 only. If Antonio is smart, he throws in a little Spanish here and there.

So far, I haven't heard any sound bites out of Antonio that Jimmy can use effectively. Perhaps that explains Antonio's tendency to play it safe and not give him any on the debates.

Why not play it safe? Look at the lead!

Looks like Antonio's to lose at this point.

"Not much to your administration" was quoted in every paper, and came across as nothing but a cheap shot soundbyte -- didn't DESERVE a response, any more than when the nancy little ADV-lovers here say "you 'haters' need to take a pill."

Hahn's response to it was perfect -nothing, no sniping back with equal gutter crap, just a dignified look that said, "you're not worth the effort little man."

THEN, he told people what WAS in his administration, and how "stagnation" claims by Addled Antonio was as bogus as ADV's promise not to run for mayor.

NOW, should we start in again on "not much in ADV's TWO FULL YEARS of do-nothing councilmanship."

NO completed projects worth spit.

NO attempts of ANY kind to address higher than ever homicide rates.

NO "bringing people together" (what horse manure). CD14 has NEVER been more torn apart, look at this blog's responses, look at the dysfunction cross-town sniping of his neighborhood councils, look at the fact that there's a recall effort (make fun -- fine, did anyone every even TRY and recall "dirty" Pacheco, or nearly indicted Alatore hell no!)

NO delivery on ANY promise made during his run for city council... not ONE.

ADV's claims of "bogus" stagnation, fall flat when compared to the REALITY of death and conflict in his own little piece of the kingdom.

Hahn is a calm, cool professional at these things, who states his case like he's been on the job. ADV comes across like a annoying little brother who wants to play with the big boys, but he JUST can't keep up. Even his voice is "changing" when he tries to get tough.

Wait out the puberty Antonio, then try again. All the campaign money in the world can't make you a big leaguer.

Survey USA had Hahn down 20 plus points. LAT's poll had Hahn down 18 points. THIS JUST IN...Hahn's own internal polls have him down only 4 points. My guess is, Hahn is really down 8-12 points. What does this mean? With the magic of Kam, Carrick and now Fowler, Hahn can make up the ground. With AV peaking too early and Hahn having a strong week, my guess is Hahn pulls it out by 3 points.

I'm just going to have to keep doing this, because it's SO easy, and even MORE true...

It is quite a puzzlement, really. If VILLARAIGOSA put a fraction of the energy into being COUNCILMEMBER that he puts into running for Mayor (twice), COUNCIL DISTRICT 14 wouldn't be in so much trouble today.

So which is worse, Hahn down 18 points based on some poll, or CD14 UP 15 homicides, based on the trails on blood on the sidewalk.

...Hahn down 18 points, or a easy DOZEN CD14 projects in "stagnated" limbo since 2003.

...Hahn down 18 points, or several historic cultural TREASURES in CD14 either heading out of the district on the stage coach or in danger of being torn down from neglect.

Hahn down 18 points, or ADV sitting on nearly TWO YEARS worth of district improvement funds, unused and unencumbered, while constiuents beg for peanut handouts.

What has Antonio done? Not a damn thing. He doesn't support Neighborhood Councils and in fact hasn't been to a Boyle Heights NC in 2 yrs. I can bet he will flop on that issue as well. ADV took money from his neighborhood councils while sitting on over $300,000. Now we find out he has $1.34 million unused funds and he keeps telling community he has no money. Just compare both records. Media reporting that ADV hasn't accomplished anything as councilman and in fact is just full of wind. He's like a balloon that is beginning to slowly deflate. He's lost his momentum. Don't be surprised at the Univsion debate. My good friend and neighbor let me borrow her computer to say what I felt. I thank her for letting me use it and showing me how to put down whats on my mind on this place.

The debate had to have been Villaraigosa's weakest moments. I used to support this guy wholeheartedly, I was blind about his record, I believed what he had told me and others. I did my own research, with hesitation, and found out that his record is false. He has no record. I was devastated and the consequence was him losing my vote. His deception is too grand and the people should know the truth of all candidates. The pitfall is that he sold a dream and that dream was like a pyramid scheme, he never had the record to back it up, it was all hyped up. He could not even specifically say what his accomplishments were, or what he specifically had in mind if in office, he was a total nightmare. I was scared for him, and my senior citizen parent who speaks "limited english" said, "He sounds like a broken record."

Antonio sounded like a broken record, that is what an old lady observed from the debate, and I can't believe the Antonio people who work with him could not admit to the failure of this debate. He needs plenty of work and he should start with telling us the truth.

I want to take my mother to his office and protest his job and candidacy.

What bothers me is this, someone posted the following about Villaraigosa:

"...while he sits on $1+ million in under-utilized city funds dating back MORE than two years..."

Where can I get more information on this. The community needs many things, so how can I find this information, so I can organize some people to look further into this and question our "leader" representative AV as to why he has done this to us. I want to know why is our community stagnant, why did he lie, and where is the money that is for the community, not for him.

Remember that your voice is stronger than violence when it comes to politics. Violence is a cheap socialistic way of doing things, always against accountability, but voicing your opinions is your given right and a lovely piece of freedom that we have. So take advantage of your freedom and voice your opinions, but the violence rhetoric you are showing makes it look cheap, be better than your boss AV, tell him what you think and do good for your community. PROMISES, PROMISES -- ALL WE GET IS PROMISES

Antonio Villaraigosa broke his promise to his constituents that he would stay as council member for the full four year term ending in 2007, by not running for mayor. Villaraigosa claims that it really wasn't a broken promise because those same constituent put pressure on him to run for mayor.

Now it turns out that Villaraigosa has filed an intent to run for Gil Cedillo's senate district 22 seat when that position is up for re-election in 2006, before his council term is over. Are we to suppose that his constituents put pressure on him again for a backup plan just in case he loses the mayor's race?

People say to me when I was on the senate floor when I was in the senate, why do you fight so hard for affirmative action programs. And I tell my white colleagues: because you're gonna need them. Remember, 187 is the last gasp of white America."

Jose Angel Gutierrez-"There are those who are saying they're concerned because we are Latinizing Los Angeles, that there are too many Mexicans here, we're the biggest..., that we're the biggest national security threat to the United States. I love it! Estan cagando cabrones miedo (The bastards are shitting with fear). I love it!"

Gilbert Cedillo-Interviewer: "These people (illegal aliens) are here to stay, they're not going away?"

Cedillo: "There's no question about it, they were here first, they're here now, they're fully integrateded into the economy. I don't think we want them to leave."

Mario Obledo-"We're going to take over all the political institutions of California, in five years, we're going to be the majority population in this state. California is going to be a Hispanic state and anyone who doesn't like it should leave" and "Well, if they (Anglos) don't like Mexicans they ought to leave. They ought to go back to Europe."

How about you start us out political "pro" at 1:04 a.m., maybe you can give us "something of ****REAL**** substance"`that Antonio Villaraigosa has started an completed (or even just COMPLETED), in two years as a highly paid city employee.

Every ADV-lover on the blog has tried it at one time or another (never providing proof), and the big bad "haters" just keep shooting them down.

Give us one ****REAL**** example of a Tony acomplishment for his district, with proof, that wasn;t actually someone else's idea or plan he jumped in on last minute.

(And that don't count his filling out the forms for the next two jobs he wants).

Yes, most politicians ARE looking ahead to the next election, that's to be expected.

SO, that's what his consituents knew and were thinking when they asked ADV, at 30-50 different campaign stops, are you just "looking ahead" - will your jumo `ship

NO, said Antonio, I will serve as CM for at least one full term!

Nothing else he's said since matters -- all promises as CM, and as a mayoral candidate may not be considered lies, because the truth is NOT in him.

(His constituents DID not ask him to run for mayor, at least not a significant number - unless you count his staff and campaign organizers -- I don't!)

I haven't heard that line since 101 Dalmations - the cartoons. Is that what Tony is reosrting to now, Disney cartoons for defense quotes. How about this one: "Hi Ho, Hi Ho, my wife is not at home...."

The money is not coming in for Jimmy; he is back calling his previous givers trying to find a way to get more out of them.

I guess he has a short memory. He's forgotten the guys who have already been convicted (Mark Alan Abrams)for masking contributions and the guys who are still awaiting trial (Pierce O'Donnell).

Hey Jimmy, it is ILLEGAL to do that, you know, against the laws you were so quick to support when you already had all the money in the bank and everyone else had to go out and try and raise it under the new rules.

Don't worry, Kam Kuwata will take an I.O.U. from the campaign committee. He can collect it after you win re-election and get the balance of your funding.

The thing is, you just have to win.

Try more like TWO million dollars the unions are putting towards ensuring the Mayors re-election success. Labor is not happy with Tony. He has stabbed them in the back as of recent. Voting against the LaX project that would produce more union jobs. Most recently selling himself to downtown building owners for three hundred and fifty thousand dollars, while SEIU is trying to organize the security guards from downtown into their SEIU union. Those be fighting actions. Tony will never have the same relationship with labor unions. Kiss your base good bye baby!!!

Everyone is relying on the LA Times poll. The LAT is one of the most bias newspapers and now is drastically losing money because people are canceling. Antonio is trying to control that comunity meeting on April 30th. His moronic staff is going around getting signatures and saying you have to RSVP. They want to keep the constituents who have valid complaints out. Again, this is ADV way.

My GOD, what will happen to Tony is someone asks a DIRECT question and expects a DIRECT answer?

Can he blame that on "haters" too.

The unions may be mad at Antonio, but they can't beat him, so they better plan on joining him.

The harder they fight, the tougher it is going to be on them in the coming eight years.

Miguel is no fool; look for a double reverse, handoff, lateral, Statue of Liberty play.

Jimmy will be asleep in San Pedro when it happens...

Your scare tactics will no longer work! Go use them on Corina Villaraigosa, where do you think information comes from his enemies, look aruond his circle.

You Hahn=hating bozos really do have some problem with him going home to San Pedro don't you. What happened didn't he invite you home for milk and cookies after the employee party?

His "home" is mentioned 5X as often as Antonio's hillside hideway in CD14, in the richest part of the district. Granted he probably doesn't "sleep" there as often as some other places (and how the HELL does he sleep? Man must have NO conscience).

Since everybody (or somebody) seems intent on posting all this bullshit from americanpatrol, let's review who they are. Here's a little blurb from the Southern Law and Poverty Center, a group that tracks hate groups like American Patrol/Voices of Citizens Together:

Voices of Citizens Together/American Patrol
Sherman Oaks, Calif.
www.americanpatrol.com

Glenn Spencer, one of the hardest line anti-immigrant ideologues now operating, founded the Voices of Citizens Together (VCT, which is also known, like his web site and radio show, as American Patrol) in 1992.

In 1994, VCT lobbied hard for passage of California's controversial Proposition 187, which would have denied educational and other benefits to illegal immigrants and their children. (Although it passed, 187 was later thrown out by the courts.)

Four years later, Spencer claimed 3,500 subscribers to the VCT newsletter. Spencer takes a hard line on immigration, demanding that the armed forces seal America's southern border. He also displays a bigoted and vulgar side quite openly.

On his web site, he attacks Mario Obledo, a leading Latino activist and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, as "Pinche [literally, fucking] Cockroach and 1998 Asshole of the Year." A cartoon character is depicted urinating on Obledo's picture.

Spencer posts dozens of immigration-related articles but replaces the words "illegal immigrant" with "illegal alien," among other editing touches. In a 1996 letter to The Los Angeles Times, Spencer wrote: "The Mexican culture is based on deceit. Chicanos and Mexicanos lie as a means of survival."

He posts material on his site from such men as H. Millard, an infamous columnist for the racist Council of Conservative Citizens who once bemoaned the "slimy brown mass of glop" that immigration and interracial relationships were making of the U.S. population.

Spencer sent every member of Congress a copy of his videotape — "Bonds of Our Nation" — that purports to prove the Mexican government and Mexican-Americans are plotting to take over the American Southwest and create the nation of Aztlán. Hand-delivering the videos was Betina McCann, the fiancé of neo-Nazi Steven Barry.

On a weekly radio show that airs in several cities, Spencer has hosted a series of guests like Kevin McDonald, a professor who accuses Jews of devising an immigration policy specifically intended to dilute and weaken the white population of America.

Are you fucken kidding or just stupied!! The unions made Antonio. They don't need him. He needs them. The unions see him as being disloyal by his actions. You think Tony is vindictave, you don't know labor. Who the fuck is Miguel Contreras! Yes he is the face of labor. The puppet of labor just like a politition, but he's NOT the boss or shot caller. It's the big Union boss's(who by the way are mostly white men) Who call the shots.Like I said KISS YOUR BASE GOOD BYE BABY!!!
