The half-cent sales tax hike lost on a 9-6 vote (10 were needed for passage) today.
NO Votes: Padilla, Parks, Smith, Villaraigosa, Weiss, and Zine
YES Votes: Cardenas, Garcetti, Greuel, Hahn (Janice, not Jim though I'm sure he wanted to), LaBonge, Ludlow, Miscikowski, Perry, Reyes
The final showdown is Friday. That is their last opportunity to rail this half-baked attempt onto the ballot. Will the 6 hold their positions?
I'm secure with four of them (Parks, Smith, Villaraigosa, Weiss), three due to campaign reasons won't budge and the other because he has had the backbone from the word go and passionately has been screaming at the top of his lungs that this is wrong.
For that Greg Smith, my hats off to you. I'm glad someone is watching my pocketbook. Now if you could just get Antonio out of yours...

The Nay's will not waver. What I predict is that Friday you will see wavering from the Yea sayers as it is starting to smell like a real political stinker.
Headlines at the next re-election for them clowns will read "Councilmember X proposed RAISING your taxes, while raising their salaries".
I think that Ludlow will change his vote. More so with the outrage over the death of the Stolen Car Angel.

In the last 20 years this dumb sales tax measure FAILED 7 times. The county voted on it this past November, yet somehow the City of LA was going to pass it with a more conservative electorate coming out to vote -- YEAH RIGHT. How about you sales tax junkies stop feeding us crap and tell it like it is, this was an attempt to take away the public safety issue from Antonio. Too bad it FAILED, just like this mayor has for 4 years.
Anyone that thinks this city would've passed a sales tax increase in May is on crack just like the 3rd floor.

MEAT tell your whimp boss ADV to get some balls. He has 7 homicides in his district and yet NOT ONCE DID HE SAY ONE WORD. He took the weak man's way out and simply voted NO. Other councilmembers spoke on behalf of their constituents but not ADV. What a f---ing hypocrite. He has more gang bangers in his community then officers is up on crime and has the nerve to sit silent. Weak, whimp, balless asshole. The majority of council voted YES because it's the democratic way. Let the people decide idiot. When 557,000 people voted Yes for Measure A that said something. But you and your loser boss wouldn't know cause he's never in his own district. We're spreading the word about him taking money from poor communities and letting the Westside people know what a snake he is.
If the sales tax has always been a bad idea MEAT, why did Antonio sink $500,000 into it campaigning for one?
So he wouldn't be tempted to "waste" the money on needs in his own district.

Which is it dum-dums? Does he have no balls for being the largest supporter of Measure A or does he have no balls for not voting yes on an ill-timed politically motivated certain to fail city initiative. We want smart leaders not dum-dums like you guys. I think the real reason here is -- why don't you 3rd floor staffers do something positive and update your resume. Hey recall cry babies, stop blogging and get your sigs, you are falling way short. Oh yeah, its a FAKE recall, can't believe i let myself think its otherwise sometimes.

C'mon guys you know Antonio only used his previous state campaign money of $500,000 he bragged about for Measure A to get his ugly mug all over tv. Did you hear the poll numbers went down when they started to air. Unbelievable he didn't say one word about it in council. Actions speak louder than words and sitting not saying a word should tell his constituents to get rid of him. He didn't even speak on behalf of them.
There is a time and place for everything. Now is not the time for this ballot measure. The voters just voted three months ago. Lets work with the County and put it on in the future.
We all want more police, we just want to be smart about it.

No matter what any of you say, the fact is.... the people of the city should have been allowed to vote. There were enough people in chambers today and the last time it was discussed begging to be allowed to vote.
Obviously the citizens of L.A. do not trust the people around the horseshoe and wanted the chance to vote. Didn't one councilmember accidentally vote the wrong way the first time? I guess that's one of the reasons why they aren't trusted.
For sure we can't trust Parks or Villaraigosa. They supported a motion recently (it was Parks' motion, for christ sake) to "...garner further support for such a sales tax increase.."

So many people are saying that Padilla make a big mistake by allowing the members to vote a 2nd time. The first vote was 11-4. Then he said the computer was down and took another vote and got the 9-6. Hope someone has the nerve to challenge that vote. Who can be that dumb not to vote right the first time after sitting through 2 hours of discussion. Meat is so bitter I'm sure he hasn't a girlfriend in ages.
MEAT is hiding out in one of the older blogs (scroll back). Less abuse there (and less fact checkers).
What does it say about a man who can't even stand up and say anything either way on an issue. It says he is weak, has no character and is a hypocrite like ADV. Amazing he just sat there listening to all the members speak with such passion about something they believed in. Sadly, he has absolutely no clue what's going on. Can you imagine what it must be like to live inside his body? Never saw anyone just sit there like he did. The best reason why he shouldn't be mayor.
You can't be any more sure that MEAT is a man than you can be sure that Mayor Sam isn't a woman. Hmm, what disgruntled woman would be so anti-Hahn? Who has switched sides in this election? Food for thought..

well the 1/2 cent tax vote failed but the back door to stealing money from lax passed? watch out for airport funds to start slowing sneaking out to pay for lapd and other city council blunders!
