Latest Tony Spam

tonyPatience people...patience. Of course we are going to bash Tony. We just needed to wait for his latest spam. The LA Times piece was just way to easy. Here we go, I'll just attach it below. It speaks for itself:

With less than 30 days to go until the March 8th election, our campaign is now at a critical stage. And I urgently ask for your help.

In just the past few days, Bob Hertzberg has started running campaign commercials in an effort to improve his poll numbers and rally voters to his side. Mayor Hahn has stepped up his attacks on me and my plans to build a better LA -- including my ethics reform proposal to clean up city government. And all of my competitors are accelerating their fundraising efforts to gear up for the final weeks of the campaign.

We can't let up for a minute in these last four weeks leading up to Election Day. We must have the resources we need to get our message out and respond to Jim Hahn's attacks. And I can't do that without your help.

Please support my campaign today!

Los Angeles campaign ethics laws impose a $2.251 million expenditure limit on Mayoral
campaigns. But a loophole allows candidates to raise and spend unlimited amounts if independent groups spend $200,000 or more on behalf of any one candidate.

Last election, these "independent expenditures" on behalf of Jim Hahn, paid for by a rogue's gallery of special interests (including a big real estate scam artist who is now under federal indictment), allowed Hahn to ignore the voter imposed expenditure limit.

And recently we have learned that both of my leading opponents, Jim Hahn and Bob Hertzberg, are planning to blow through the voter-imposed spending limit again.

Within the last few days, both Hahn and Hertzberg announced that they had reached the $2.251 million spending cap -- and both are continuing to raise money. That can only mean one thing -- that they expect that large independent expenditures will allow them to spend unlimited sums.

Our campaign is going great. We have just reached the $2.251 million limit as well, but now it appears that we must raise even more to make certain that we can respond to sleazy independent expenditure attacks.

And we must do it in a very short period of time. The election is just one month away.

I ask you to reach deep and make a contribution to my campaign today!

We have already come so far so fast. In fact, the latest Los Angeles Times poll shows me in a statistical tie for the lead with Jim Hahn, with the other candidates trailing significantly.

But we cannot take anything for granted -- we just can't allow our hard work to be undone by a massive influx of unregulated special interest money in these final weeks. Your contribution of $1000, $500, $100, $50, or whatever you can afford will make sure that we get our message out -- and together claim victory on March 8.

I can't thank you enough for everything you've already done to support my campaign. Now, with only 4 weeks left until Election Day, I ask for your help once more.

Please contribute to my campaign today!

Urgently yours,

Antonio R. Villaraigosa

This is way to easy. I'll let you guys take a swing at it...

That's close to $400,000 of contributions for each month actually doing something for the district (and it sounds like the district is skeptical about the time spent on that), city, etc. Gee, if you take time off for "bad performance" while he was pretending to be the "shadow" mayor -- running all over the rest of the country, like he won in 2001, you're talking some real money. Is this guy really worth half a million per month of service to his faithful contributors?

Funny thing...I got an email asking for volunteers and donations for Bob's campaign, one request was for housing for one of the campaign's "out of state" staffers.

Funny, because I thought it odd that in a city of millions, they would choose to go to the hassle of hiring out of state help.

But whats great about all of this is the Antonio fear i smell -- in fact the folks with a brain are saying something else -- in fact supporters of other campaigns are echoing exactly what Boi From Troy is saying:

Hahn clueless about City Hall corruption

Category: Politics - L.A. and WeHo
Most who covered last night's televised debate for the Los Angeles Mayor's race remarked about Sen. Richard Alarcón's receiving thunderous applause from the audience. While that's well and good for Richard, but it probably will not translate into votes...most of the focus these days should be on the race between Bob Hertzberg and Jim Hahn.

As I see it, Antonio Villaraigosa is in a runoff. The question is now, "against whom"? While Bernie Parks may have polled better than Hertzberg recently, he has been a citywide figure for now seven or eight years. With that kind of name recognition, you should garner more than 13%.

Only Bob Hertzberg has upwardly-mobile potential that could knock Hahn out of a runoff. While his name ID is low, his favorables among those who have an opinion is 4-1 positive. More than a quarter of those who know who Bob is plan to vote for him--which, were he to increase his name ID to the levels of the other candidates would put him in a runoff.

The debates have become monotonous, but because last night's forum was on television, people felt the need to report about it. Mayor Sam is being too charitable to Jim Hahn when he says he comes in third. Hahn, who jokes about coming under attack 4-to-1, shows contempt for anyone who has read a paper in the last four years when he discusses charges against his administration:

"I'm still waiting for him to take responsibility for the corruption in this administration," said City Councilman Antonio Villaraigosa at one point.
Hahn, who looked exasperated at his rivals' comments throughout the night, retorted testily: "What corruption?"

If there weren't a cloud of corruption lingering over City Hall, why then has the Mayor been at the forefront of pushing for too-little-too-late ethics reforms?!? Perhaps he should ask Laura Chick to invite him over for a sit-down briefing.

blog away dum-dums -- like i said i'll be at the studio city debate tonight - wearing my yello hat of course.

Mayor Sam there's a big story here. Sounds like Parks had to know this business was in his district but is skirting the issue. It's about a gun shop in Parks district that is suppose to be a pawnshop not gun shop....THE WAVE... City Councilman Bernard Parks, whose office has been unable to contact Botach despite numerous attempts, pressed the Building and Safety and City Planning departments into investigating how the gun shop, at 3423 W. 43rd Place and its attendant warehouse, at 4345 Crenshaw Blvd., came into existence in his district. The 43rd Place site had been a pawnshop for years. “We’re trying to determine whether Botach obtained the proper permit to change his pawnshop into a gun shop,” said Jeannae Rouzan, Parks’ communications director.

Faisal Roble, the Crenshaw-area city planner, said he has searched city records and “I can find no evidence that that building should be anything other than a pawnshop.”

Okay, MEAT, maybe you didn't see this from an earlier thread, but here's your chance. Show us the way.

MEAT posted the following and tried tying it to Hahn:

Definition of the word "graft" Pronunciation Key (grft)
n.
Unscrupulous use of one's position to derive profit or advantages; extortion. Money or an advantage gained or yielded by unscrupulous means.

What is "the unscrupulous use of one's position" in Hahn's case? MEAT, what exactly did Hahn do? (Is it like writing a letter for a drug pin (Villaraigosa)?)

What is the "derived profit or advantage; extortion"? What is Hahn's derived profit or advantage? (Is it like getting a free roof on your home from a contractor(Alatorre))

Let's here your argument to the jury understanding the two questions that have to be answered to prove guilt.

Here is your chance to show us ALL, you got the goods on Hahn, and not just a bunch of smoke.

Here's a tip MEAT, be convincing and concise with your facts.

Richard Alarcon won the debate and now Antonio is getting desperate. With his 3%, $300,000 and one man army, it is now clear Alarcon is going to do the damage that the AV camp feared. His operation in the Eastside is no Joke and no matter what MEAT and company dream up-Alarcon will get a significant amount of votes there. The populist message is ringing throughout LA's progressive community and I heard people responded to the campaign in every office today like no other. The best part for Alarcon was that there was no spin needed after the debate--he spun himself gathering the tremendous applause by targeting the audience. The TV viewer was swayed by the fact that there was nothing for AV. How many voters really no what is going on with Neighborhood Councils? Most probably tuned in for 15 minutes, heard the applause and saw the passion--it didn't matter what was being talked about. The Times and Daily News, all but declared Alarcon the winner and the same day AV's profile comes out in the Times. Sucks for him. Alarcon's presence is a huge IE for Hertzberg and Hahn. For Hahn because Alarcon personally moved AV to a middle of the road candidate (with or without AV's will to do so) and for BH because well let's face it Alarcon is becoming planted in the activist, populist, progressive base that put AV into the run-off last time. I am sure Bob was going to take a hit at AV, probably subtle, at some point. He needed to do it to survive. But Alarcon's play to the media and superior debate performance is a gift to both campaigns. The AV camp has been trying to undermind Alarcon's campaign for the last month, with his BH-BS poll press release, the disregard for RA as a candidate, etc. What goes around comes around and AV is in trouble, after the debate AV was alone, while 30 people hovered around RA. The thing for AV is that he has everything to loose and RA has nothing to loose, he has already won. Why hasn't MEAT or anyone given an excuse for AV's performance? He needs one desperately because he is going to continue to get eaten up.

Meat's answer: Not true, no one from Antonio's staff never asked for anyone to pay $250 bucks for a booth at a community event. Hey Terry Valdez, nice to see you posted at 7:39am god forbid you post while at work, since we know what you should really be doing is updating your resume and not spewing lies onto this blog or the community. Hey Terry since you asked me a question and i just answered it, please tell me why your office hasn't demanded that Charles Fitzgerald come back from hiding in a foreign country to tell the world that your boss is INNOCENT. The only man in the world that can 100% claim Hahn is innocent of all corruption and scandal has fled the country.

So when Hahn asks "what corruption?" i think what he really means to say " me, corrupt, prove it, oh yeah you can't because your star witness has fled the country, how convenient".

Now on to this whole definition of "graft" which the LA Times used in their Sunday edition regarding the poll -- let's once again remind folks what i am talking about.

• Two joint criminal county-federal investigations are looking into allegations that commissioners for three of the city’s three proprietary departments – the airport, the Port of Los Angeles, and the Department of Water and Power (DWP) – pressured contractors to kick into Hahn’s campaigns in order to obtain lucrative contracts. Also under investigation are other so-called “pay-to-play” contracting practices that give the appearance of trading contributions for access. --- this is a form of corruption.

• In April, deputy mayor and former chief Hahn campaign fundraiser Troy Edwards and Airport Commissioner Ted Stein both resigned, following more “pay-to-play” allegations. The URS Corporation told federal prosecutors that it lost a contract worth millions after refusing to contribute to a Hahn campaign, and charged that Stein was involved in seeking the donation. Edwards was appointed deputy mayor and liaison between the mayor’s office and the airport, the Port of Los Angeles, and the DWP – making him someone with a database of the mayor’s donors and knowledge of contracts out for bid. -- this is a form of political gaining from the system.

then....

• Then there’s an investigation by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office into possible campaign money-laundering by a Hahn supporter, Westside developer Mark Abrams, himself the target of an FBI probe for allegedly inflating mortgages and skimming millions. Associates of Abrams and his partner Charles Elliot Fitzgerald have said that Abrams engaged in what’s delicately called “contribution laundering,” the solicitation of campaign donations from employees and others followed by their re-imbursement with his own funds – possibly to get around legal campaign funding limits while still building a political presence with the Hahn administration. Hahn did appoint Abrams’s real estate attorney to the Planning Commission, which subsequently allowed the construction of previously forbidden 30-foot retaining walls. This helped out a troubled multi-million-dollar Bel-Air development by Abrams; a mayoral team also waded in to help Abrams out of a jam on that particular project. City ethics officials this week accused Abrams of 48 violations of campaign laws regarding $90,000 in campaign donations. The matter is under review by the five-member Ethics Commission, which could impose tens of thousands of dollars in civil penalities. -- which the commission fined Abrams $270,000 dollars teh largest fine ever. Ethics commissioners this mayor appointed were so digusted that they voted in favor of this as well.

• A City Ethics Commission in July accused attorney Pierce O’Donnell of 26 violations of ethics laws by making so-called “assumed name” contributions to Hahn’s 2001 primary campaign. The matter is under review by an administrative hearing officer, and the result may have criminal implications. -- simply put - money laundering.

• The executive director of the Port of Los Angeles, Larry Keller, resigned under pressure in September and is a witness in the federal investigation involving yet more alleged “pay-to-play” city contracting practices. That didn’t stop him from winning a $540,000 contract in October to do marketing work for the port – a decision defended by Hahn. -- always be stupid and loyal, thats what i always say.

• Then there are the 71 law firms that got $18.9 million in 2003 doing city business, this despite the city’s permanent legal team, otherwise known as the City Attorney. Funny thing: 50 of the firms and attorneys contributed a total of $244,675 to Hahn’s 2001 mayor’s race, and $77,500 to his must-win anti-San Fernando Valley secession campaign in 2002. The three proprietary departments emerge as trouble spots again – as the departments that were the focus of the bulk of the outside legal work. -- anyone living and working in the San Fernando valley will soon remember what hahn did to them.

• In July, 2004, David Murdock, billionaire owner of Dole Food Company, developer of Castle and Cooke, and one of the biggest donors to Hahn’s anti-secession campaign, won a bid to operate a 7.3-acre jet center site at Van Nuys Airport. Two competitors filed formal protests with the City Attorney and Airport Commission charging that the Murdock bid failed to meet city guidelines. The rent offered was 75 percent less than that of other bidders....sniff, sniff -- is that a pineapple i smell, no, no its not, its PAY TO PLAY.

• And, perhaps the most spectacular item, and one of the likeliest to generate political spatter – the Fleishman-Hillard scandal, or scandals – related to the PR giant’s $3 million annual contract with the DWP. It’s just the kind of combination pay-to-play and ratepayer chiseling that reflects poorly on the Hahn administration.

* John Stodder is then indicted, Hahn uses city cars at political events (illegal) oh to the poor lady that was fired because of this, sorry, pretend its medical leave, but we all know Hahn deserves the real pink slip not you, uses city warehouses as storage for campaign material (illegal).

So well if you think the word graft inquiries shouldn't be used after laying out all that eveidence and being as specific as i possibly can -- then you sir/madam are a dum-dum.

blog away - call me out again -- and i will crush you, the facts are on my side -IDIOTS.

Hey mayor sam, (my pal) just look at the posts above, they challenged me on the word "graft" and i gave them an asnwer. I "out" one of the hahn's staffers and she immediately goes bezerk -- the wheels are falling off that Gotti train.

As for who i am -- look i don't care for many of the folks that have been associated with my name. As for that last guess, don't even think he lives in los feliz, plus he's like 24-25 not even my age.

ummm....not sure why my name is on here, but i don't post on this site. I occasionaly read daily kos and remember someone calling me about the 4th floor blog, but having just received a call about this blog, i have no idea why people think i am someone i am not.

thanks guys -- i have friends in virtually every campaign and care more about their friendships than blogging.
