Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Tuesday

How much will they loan Zev for the Hollywood Bowl?
The Cast of Pawn Stars

Members of the Community Redevelopment Authority board are debating whether or not to give two buildings in South LA free to a real estate developer. Of course their beef isn't over the socialist notion of a public government agency taking private property and giving it to other private parties but whether or not the proposed use (clothes manufacturing) is a "green" industry or not. And you ask why LA is so screwed up!

Local boondoggle of the decade award: the ill-fated attempt to move the Los Angeles Children's Museum to LakeView Terrace (on the site of the legendary Corral country music nightclub).

The City of LA may need to give up operation of the Zoo, Convention Center and even it's animal shelters. For the first time in we don't how long a City official got it absolutely right when City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana told the Daily News "We have to look at what the core mission of the city is." Here's an answer Miguel: pretty much anything that is NOT police, fire, safety or keeping the streets in good condition.

Don't worry that American Idol, The Simpsons or Glenn Beck will not be served up to you via Time Warner Cable. They're getting closer and well before the time Dick Clark airs Thursday a deal will be reached. See? Didn't I tell you?

Local boondoggle of the next decade award: The County of LA Stupidvisors making a risky multi-million dollar loan to LA Opera using a note secured by the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion itself as collateral. What's next? Will they pawn the LaBrea Tar Pits? Kudos to Mike Antonovich for at least having the balls to say no.

Mayor Villaraigosa will talk about his great year on Patt Morrison's KPCC radio show Tuesday.

Open Thread for Thursday

Patt Morrison wonders why the Mayor and City Council won't hold hearings on the new City Budget until the middle of next month - long after it's picked apart by every faction of dum dum out there. Patt's view is the folks who pay the bills and don't get the services should be able to give their view on Los Angeles' budget priorities well before the document is drafted. Patt either didn't know or didn't mention that the Mayor did meet with a few select Neighborhood Council leaders for coffee, so give him a break!

Discuss.

Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

Absolutely disgusting. Some dumbasses have vandalized the outside of Council Member Jack Weiss' district office with swastikas and other racist graffiti. Lets hope the police find the clowns who did this.

More after the jump

We broke the story last night; LAist has an excellent interview with Joseph Mailander, following his stepping down as editor of the longtime LA blog, Martini Republic. Though Joseph still co-owns the blog, his absence will create a huge vacuum and like LA Voice without Mack Read, or KABC without Mr. KABC or Kevin James, MR is in dangerous shark-jumping territory. Indeed, we've already delisted MR from our "hot blog" section and replaced it with Mailander's new entry, splice the mainbrace.

Los Angeles City Librarian Fontayne Hughes will show up on Patt Morrison's radio show Friday to discuss the Library's recent unveiling of free wi-fi at all City libraries. Kudos to Hughes, this is a great program.

It doesn't get a lot of attention, but CurbedLA has a good piece on the up and coming berg that is Koreatown.

The union for broadcast technical employees, NABET, has come out with a statement regarding the treatment of broadcast crews by the LAPD during the pro-illegals rally on Tuesday. Indeed, the cops should have been beating up and deporting the illegal alien criminal gang members and trouble makers rather than TV reporters.

Mailander has proposed yurts as good low income, transitional housing for the homeless (as opposed to spending millions on "affordable housing" and Skid Row hotels). Another option as seen over at CurbedLA are low cost homes are cargo containers.
