When the Clowncil does something good we have to give them credit. They've rejected a DWP request to increase water rates telling the utility they weren't buying the pitch. A spokesman for Council President Eric Garcetti said that following the DWP's last attempt to bamboozle on rate increases their credibility is still pretty low. DWP can come back in a month and try again.
The LA Weekly's Jill Stewart takes apart AJ Duffy, the controversial and often lampooned head of LA's teachers union. In addition to calling Duffy a pipsqueak Jill notes that he's lying that the ACLU did not include the union in succesful efforts to end the LAUSD's "last hired first fired" policy.

Franklin Avenue reports that a Fox News Channel morning show was fooled by a Weekly World News fake story that the LAPD was buying jet packs for officers. Might not be a bad way for the cops to get around LA traffic though.

Didn't John Kerry (remember him) derail his campaign with something similar? It's hilarious to see these politically correct liberal elitists shooting themselves in the foot when they let down their guard.
Whitman may have damaged herself over being so utterly unprepared for Housekeeper-gate, but at least she didn't display Jerry and Kerry's gutter instincts. No, Meg left it to the rest of us to call Nicky Diaz a whore, and worse.
There is no way around this for the left. Because everyone knows that if Jerry were a Republican and Meg a Democrat and he called her whore the liberals would be screaming bloody murder. However their hypocrisy (which doesn't matter if they think the Republicans or Tea Party are hypocrites because we're talking about the left's behavior right now) in being strangely silent on the matter or even going as far to justify Jerry's remarks is more than obvious.
This also takes Jerry from offense to playing defense, overshadowing the Nicky affair, which is not what you want in the last few minutes of the game.
Whitman doesn't even really need to say much, the media will do it for her.
Jerry has always shot his mouth off. He's as big a gaffe machine as Joe Biden.

i am dropping healthcare coverage because we are getting 40% increases in our premiums. i can't even hire the three people I wanted to hire in 2010.

The left is strangely silent? This is a non-issue - these are the big boys playing here, do you have any idea what goes on in the back rooms. I'll tell you, describing Meg as a whore is small potatoes to what she is really being called. Likewise, moonbeam isn't the only word used for Brown on the Whitman campaign behind closed doors.
It is not illegal to call someone a whore - especially if they fit the description. This is hardball politics - grow up. It's not as if Brown were driving a HumVee - that hypocritical stuff is for Republicans.

I am still a fan of zuma, but he's not what he used to be. It was cool to see him in city hall, but in order to be relevant any more, he needs to be there on a regular basis.
Zuma doesn't need profanity, his gimmick is funny enuf as it is. But he really needs to get off of the begging kick.
Talking about Zuma is definitely much more fun than talking about the compulsive gambler and perennial last place candidate who admitted that he does NOT live in cd4.

Phil removed from his blog his admission that he lives in cd5, not cd4, but that he is going to move into cd4 (maybe hairy & hirsute Diggie Coochie's place)to sandbag and refile.
Funny how Phil rails against Alarcon for essentially the same thing, and pontificates that he is against such things, but he simultaneously does the same deal.
ZD probably COULD have functioned as an investigator in Tru's office, but being a loose cannon prohibited that.
Can you imagine the lawsuits of his "investigating" a case?
This is a sad instance of someone having all the SKILLS and DETERMINATION in the world, but the inability to behave like an adult.
I too think he used to be a hero, but ironically, the thing that made him entertaining is the same thing that prevented him from getting hired even in a junior capacity. I don't work in the C.A.'s office, but we work very closely with them.
Ultimately, ZD will pick himself up by the bootstraps, but it'll require a lot of growing up. He is completely capable, though. Some day.

Zuma can be anything he wants to be. He just needs to figure out how to go and make it happen for himself. It won't happen doing karaoke or talking about David Arquette and Adam Sandler. I don't personally believe he was a "top radio executive" but that doesn't matter. He needs to drop the past and take advantage of the relationships he built in the city. I've been on the blog for about 9 months now and I can't figure out why z.d. thinks that he exposed the housing and pension crises. I always assumed that with the timing and all, he was parroting things he reads online and in the wall street journal.

I think the zuma dogg discussion today was REFRESHING. The guy is mildly funny at best, and an annoyance at worst. Nothing more, nothing less.
