LA Streetcar?
Labels: public transit
This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

For a moment there, watching that very well made video (the special effects showing street cars in LA are awesome), I was sold on the idea. I've just come back from Europe where most of the cities I visited have streetcars, or 'trams' as they call them, and they are the lifeblood to the city and the cure for congestion.
The problem with LA is the lousy, unbelievably inept drivers who continue to collide with surface railways. Metrolinks, Blue Lines, you name it, these shit for brains idiots cannot cope with the notion that they have to yield to public transport.
Now, if you want to introduce the streetcars and ban passenger cars from the central area, that's fine with me. But as long as juries keep on rewarding lousy drivers who get hit while crossing train tracks, LA won't be able to afford the lawsuits, never mind the cost of setting up the streetcar system. Sorry.
