Los Angeles Politics Hotsheet for Thursday

It's taken 28 years, but there are now 100 free flying wild California Condors in the state. That doesn't sound like many, but in 1982, there were only 22 of these magnificent birds left in the wild. Re-population is an excruciatingly slow and difficult process that is being hindered, in part, by lead poisoning from ammunition and ingestion of trash (plastic bags?) by the birds.

Speaking of endangered ...
$140 Million Up In Smoke?  -according to the FiveThirtyEight forecasting model, gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown is now a 75% favorite to become the next governor of California.

Speaking of waste...
Evidently, Councilman Richard Alarcon and his wife never flushed their toilets or bathed at the Panorama City house that they claimed to live in. A review of their DWP bills indicates less than 8 gallons a day of water usage. They also appear to have had only had a single light bulb and nothing else burning up electricity. Now that's what you call Green living!

Speaking of stinky...
Why Do Texas Oil Companies Hate California? Valero and Te$oro continue pumping millions into the state to try and kill green jobs and keep the locals oil addicted. Toss in more millions from the Koch Brother$, and now you have a group effort by out of state $pecial interest$ to control California environmental law.
Vote No on Proposition 23 okay?

It's too bad that the long-running California Assembly and State Senate didn't DO SOMETHING about the plastic bags.

Being vastly composed of DEMOCRATS, it should surprise "noone" that they couldn't get something done. Do they ever?

Phil, Do you stay up until midnight every night to see if JoeB wrote the hotsheet? Are you that obsessed with him?

Uh, Phil?

We're all red on the inside. It's called blood, you idiot.

That's a loser. Thinking he's insulting someone and can't even get THAT right.

Joe B. you of all people should know that those percentages mean nothing. When Chris Essel had millions of dollars from the unions and her polling was in the high 80's no one thought Krekorian who didn't have much would beat her. Look at the polls of Hispanic voters NOT going out to vote. Those were the ones Brown was counting on. If you read the papers of yesterday there is a backlash against the Nicky Diaz incident and Brown. People aren't dumb. Brown had a solid base here in LA but that has fallen apart. I know of a lot of people who were voting for him but now have switched to Meg.

I just heard on the news that just short of 42 million Americans on food stamps.

Though I respect the views of others, I was wondering what Joe feels about 17% of the country being on food stamps?

Is that W's fault, too? Exactly when do the problems become solely obamas?

Just asking Joe, since I don't know what you do for a living, or whether you're currently employed, but are YOU on foodstamps? Nothing to be ashamed of, especially if you're a believer in the far left liberal views.

What DO you do for a living? All I know is that you probably don't work at The Home Depot. What is it about Capitalism that you dislike?

By the way the Joe might have a temporary lapse or could be on the road to enlightenment. The other night he uttered the words "private business decision." I looked around to see if pigs were flying.

Valley Doll, why don't you go on the record and make a prediction of how the Gov & Senator races will turn out and by what percentage?

Show us you know what you're talking about. Can't hurt, right?

KABC sucked when it was all liberal all the time.

They're getting wise by dumping the Triplets and bringing back Elder. DON'T YA LOVE HOW ONE OF THE SMARTEST MEN IN THE CITY HAPPENS TO BE A BLACK GUY?????? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.

Hello Joe B,

If one were to have your blog entries as their only source of news or information, they'd think that this was a completely democratic and liberal country.

Why is it that you never seem to post anything about the other side of the story?

Just askin'

Anyone who's visited this blog over the years KNOWs that City Councilmembers are usually "in the dark"

Besides, the family of four that showers TOGETHER -- um, er:

OH HELL, Richard, even I can't talk you out on this one. The only thing "green" about this debacle is just how inexperienced (and STOOPID) was the person who counseled you that you could get away with this scam.

You are SO screwed on this one, carpetbagger, I've already started courting clients for the special election to replace you.

No one said that Brown was leading by 75 percentage points, but rather that he has a 75% chance of winning. And that therefore Meg has a 25% of winning.

4:16, please keep in mind that Valley Dolt was once a contributor to Mayor Sam and couldn't hack it, so she joins the illustrious likes zuma dogg, haikula, and phil jennerjahn.

Interesting how Joe B didn't correct this mistake of Valley Dolt's. He would just as soon allow people to misunderstand the facts.

Valley Dolt, please come back again and misinterpret easy statistics.

Obama is gonna have a HUGE HEADACHE tomorrow!

Unemployment in September was - wait for it - 10.1%

That's MORE THAN 25% HIGHER than the MAXIMUM that Obama said it would reach if the Stimulus was approved.

Dig that Joe B. and Valley Doll. The unemployment rate is MORE THAN 25% HIGHER than the MAX B. Hussein Obama promised.

One.
Term.
President.
