Mailer, Letter Tags Essel with CRA, Mayor V, Gov Gumby Guilt by Association

Third floor not going to be happy with this.

A new mailer and an unearthed letter from then Speaker Villaraigosa attempts to tag CD2 Candidate Chris Essel with some associations that may not fly in the District.

The address on the letter indicates Essel lives about a mile from the Sunset Strip. Perhaps she should have sought Paul Koretz's old West Hollywood City Council seat instead.

According to people in AV's office all hell broke lose when this mailer surfaced yesterday.

It led to a yelling match last night between Ace and Hacopian.

The word is that Hacopian has been purged from the Mayor's team for good.

A little "free" lesson for those crowing "defeat" -- from someone here -- who REALLY doesn't give a flying twinkie which of these two peas-in-a-pod wins -- about what the "regular" voter knows and cares about, and why they vote for who they do.

This is an "inside" slap that's total gibberish to anyone but them what sings in either choir. The campaign consultants will slap back and guffaw about this, after wards, and say "I got you good!" but it's still so much inside claptrap, we couldn't care less.

The very fact that some of your crowing here KNOW the first names of some of the hacks that make this stuff up rules you out as a judge of what will turn real voters heads.

The things many of the posters here think are "damning" and saying they spell defeat for one candidate are so far off base as to be laughable.

"She lives where?"

Other than a handful of wonks, most voters can tell you what parts of L.A.'s Etch-a-Sketch council boundaries are inside, or outside their 1/15th of the city districts. "Doheny Estates" could just as easily be within CD2, as anywhere else.

Most voters can't tell you the difference between their Council district, county sup district (if they even know they're in one), their Assembly district, their State senate district, or any of their federal ones.

And, she lived there NINE YEARS AGO? PUhleez. The average voter has moved twice since then, and lived in at least two different council districts, and didn't even realize they'd crossed boundaries.

"She lives in a MANSION?"

We common folk think all politicians and all politician wannabes live in mansions. So what!

"She was appointed by HIM?"

He's still the mayor. Really, now, does the "he/she is the mayor's lapdog" ever really works in L.A.? (Okay, Jack Weiss. Maybe once.)

"Eminent Domain?

Huh? isn't that where you register your Web site names?

(BTW, isn't eminent domain, ALWAYS used to "seize private properties" -- by definition? And isn't the property always, in some way, turned over to developers -- in some cases to build things useful to the common man?"

It's only "evil" to most voters, if its their property being targeted.

ACLU?

Ooooh, oooh, scary!

LMNOPQ, so there!

"She was also appointed by GRAY DAVIS?

Who? Isn't he an actor? Isn't he dead? Was he the guy kicked off "Dancing with the Stars" the very first week?

"Villaraigosa was LIVID about this!"

Really? If he had a nickel for everytime someone tried to slam him with who he associates with, the ACLU, etc., he could pay off AEG's part of the Michael Jackson funeral.

If he looked furious, if was probably because someone ate the last cheese danish on the food tray before he got there. Ask Phil J. if they were serving danish.

It's time to "out" both Essel and Greuel. They are the Mayor's puppets and always have been. Most in CD2 didn't see through that with Wendy for the first 4 years. But the chickens are coming home to roost. Time to shut them all down, including Wendy and her aspirations to higher office. Just say no to Essel, no to Wendy, and no to Antonio and no to their political corruption. Let's take our city back by voting yes to Paul.

I think you're absolutely right about CD2 not "seeing through" Wendy G. the first four years, in fact, they SO didn't "see through" her" she was popularly elected to City Council THREE times -- the first time to finish off the term of one of the Valley's most respected long-termers, and then easily won citywide office as Controller, including the overwhelming majority of the votes cast in CD2 for that race.

If I could get people to not "see through" me like that, I'd be the most popular guy in town.

You and Red Spit oughta hang together an commisserate, him about Jose Huizar. You're both consumed with bashing elected officials that enjoy huge majority support on their home turf, like tossing pebbles into the ocean and not understanding why it don't just "fill up"!

Higby,

You supported Antonio Villaraigosa for mayor, too in 2000.

A lot of you supported Antonio when he was Assemblyman running for mayor.

So now you are holding that against Essel?

You have to go back to 2000 for your big bombshell.

Krekorian has been a greedy, gift-taking Assemblymember this year!

So Michael, if you did not support Antonio during the same period you are attacking Essel over, please let us know. Otherwise, pretty weak.

11:39,

First of all it was 2005 genius. Mayor Sam wasn't even around in 2001. I don't think the point is that anyone supported the Mayor at such and such a time. The point is that Chris has adamantly stated that she is not business as usual, that she is not in bed with City Hall and she is going to shake things up. The truth is that she is in fact in bed with a lot of politicians: wendy, antonio, and brian d'arcy and the list goes on. Just because she was in entertainment doesn't mean she wasn't playing a political game. Essel is exactly what I am sick and tired of, a nasty, old washed up exec. that's full of crap. Chris got in bed with these guys a long time ago and if she gets to city hall she'll fuck the residents of CD2 as well!

Cadiz and Brackpool are getting money from the new water bond coming out soon from Sacramento; that ought otbe enough to make it D.O.A.

How about it Paul, gonna vote for that also?

Maybe it will employ your 40,000 felons, huh?

Paul, I hate to tell you this, but that vote cost you the seat in the Horseshoe.

November 19, 2009 1:42 AM says: "Maybe it will employ your 40,000 felons, huh?
Paul, I hate to tell you this, but that vote cost you the seat in the Horseshoe."

More lies from the Essel campaign.
You know damn well that Krekorian DID NOT vote to release prisoners early. Show the proof.

For the proof that Paul DID NOT vote for early prisoner release, copy and paste this site for the letter from Sheriff Lee Baca endorsing Paul with: "While others in the Capitol pushed for early release plans, Paul Krekorian stood firm with law enforcement. His leadership resulted in a reform plant that:
1.Blocks the State's early release proposal and prevents the early release of any prisoners."

http://ethics.lacity.org/pdf/campaign_literature/AR-M550N_20091118_132136.pdf

So stop with the lies, stop with the dirty campaigning. It won't pry lose one single vote for Essel.

November 19, 2009 12:32 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said:

11:39 & 7:02, there's a big difference in Higby's previous endorsement of the Mayor and Essel's hosting a dinner in her home to launch his campaign. Her ties to the Mayor are long and deep, and personal. Just as they are to Wendy. City Council does not need another downtown insider and stooge for the mayor. Time to send them all packing.
