Krekorian feeds the crocodiles

The League of Womens Voters held a debate last night.

Paul Krekorian and Christine Essel were there.

The debate itself was not very interesting. Paul and Christine continued to state positions that they had both stated before. Nothing has changed. To be quite honest, I'm getting a little tired of covering this election.
It will all be over December 8th. Not a moment too soon for some Mayor Sam readers, I'm guessing.

When it comes right down to it, the voters of CD 2 have two choices:

Either they go with the rookie, Paramount Pictures Executive -- Christine Essel

Or, they go with the big-spending, big-government Socialist -- Paul Krekorian

Over 80% of the voters in CD are not even going to vote...so it makes you wonder why candidates have to kill themselves and raise millions of dollars for elections when most people don't care enough to participate.

Some of the most interesting things of the evening were happening on the periphery of the event.

In fact she was one of the people asking questions of the candidates. Of course, the LWV didn't allow audience participation on the off chance that someone might ask a troubling question.

(As a side note... how in the world is it fair for Judy Price to be a moderator??!! A woman who is so insanely in the tank for Krekorian that she had threatened to remove other CD 2 candidates from a public forum and had also clearly appeared in Krekorian mailers and campaign literature!!?? )

Obviously, the LWV didn't do any research into this choice.

Judy may have been disappointed that she couldn't kick Christine Essel out of the event.
(It actually would have ruined a two person debate)

Some of her least favorite CD 2 candidates were there in the crowd, but as far as I saw, she didn't demand that any of them leave. Frank Sheftel was there, so was Augusto Bisani, Pete Sanchez, and Michael McCue.
In fact I heard that Sheftel, McCue, and Sanchez had a meeting afterwards with blogger Paul Hatfield.
What were they discussing? I don't know. I'm curious. I 'll have to ask one of them about that....

Another fascinating event tonight was that I was approached by one of Krekorians staffers who asked me to "tone it down" when it came to the criticism of Krekorian on this blog.

Interesting.

Ok..let's get a few things straight.

My criticisms of Paul Krekorian are not personal. I don't know the man and have never spoken with him.
I don't have any personal grudge against him.
My criticisms are based on his behaviors and his votes and his career history. Nothing else.

I actually give him some credit. I think he is a smart guy and a career politician who knows how to say what people want to hear. But that is a dangerous type of person to start pinning your hopes and dreams on....and unfortunately, many other contributors to this blog are drinking the Kool-Aid and doing exactly that.

Krekorian bears responsibility for the State of California being in the shape it is now.
Socialist, politically correct nonsense has been the game plan of the State for years.
Running around handing out money like candy to those who demand it.
Their appetites just keep getting bigger.

It reminds me of the old quote by President Ronald Reagan.

"To sit back hoping that someday, some way, someone will make things right is to go on feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat you last - but eat you he will."

Krekorian is the type of guy who runs around throwing raw meat to crocodiles.
He promises people that everything will be OK.

Eventually, that turns out to be untrue.

Essel is the toad for the CCA, IBEW, Latham & Watkins, PPL. Paul has the endorsement of every CD2 leader that matters. Phil is the fool that cannot stop putting his foot in his mouth.

So Phil, Let me get this straight.. let me get it clear...
1/ You are bored by this election.
2/ You have nothing much to say about this forum (pretty routine. Heard it all before).
3/ You still managed to find some reason to attack Krekorian.
4/ Since there was nothing else exciting, you decided to create a story about candidates no longer in the election who are of no consequence.
Yup, I agree with 12:30a. Your posts couldn't get any worse.
You have managed to turn this blog into TMZ. Cool.

Paul is same old politics. We in CD2 want some change to our community and he is catering to the city council people, but guess what there are lots of us who aren't on those city councils that can vote too!

I am a Republican and voted for McCain and Palin last year. Although this is a non-partisan race, I feel very strongly that Christine Essel has the right morals and family values for the job. She supports business, lower taxes, right to life, deportation of illegals and an "on-your-own-dime" health care policy. With a little time, me and my south of the Boulevard wealthy Sherman Oaks friends think Chris will develop into a protege of Sarah Palin. If you want to stamp out abortion and illegals and want to support big business so they can continue to stick it to the middle class, vote for Chris.

I'm new here and just wondering- Phil Jennerjhan, do you EVEN reside in CD2 or Krekorian's Assembly District? If being honestly and deeply concerned about the welfare of your constituents is "socialist" well then lets bring on as many "socialist" politicians as we can because we need more of them. As one of his constituents, I've been very impressed by his accessibility and his incredible staff who actually listen and try to help and when no one else has listened or been willing to help. You claim your attacks against him are not personal, yet your words say otherwise. This was a very nasty post and your public attack against this Judy Price was dirty and uncalled for. If you have issues with her, keep it between the two of you, and please stop publicly attacking people-- it's very ugly and wow, very very childish.

I wish the candidates would just get to ask each other questions about CD2 issues. Why would you attach Judy Price and not questions what Essel said. Exemption to SB1818 - where does Essel get this idea? There is no support from the legislature to change SB1818 in any way, even though members agree it is a bad law. Open Space - Essel's comments about pocket parks is the same as we heard from Greuel during her term...they never materialized. Even the support for the golf courses was not as aggressive as we expected from Greuel. Grant writer - CD2 is so vast and complicated, the current staff can hardly manage it, so how can one person be responsible for this and there will be no new positions because of the budget. Audits - Essel said that the Dept. of Building & Safety should be audited...too bad Greuel didn't tell her the audit was already completed in 2006 and never brought to the city council. It was just ignored as usual, including Greuel's non interest in it. The audit has great suggestions to revamp the Dept. of Building & Safety, but nobody did anything. Schools - what real decisions do city council members have on LAUSD? - None!!

My questions would include: Essel - When did you run a business and become a business woman? When did you create a job in California, Los Angeles or CD2? Why do you insist that when you were chair or president of organizations that you did support their positions? How are you a 'valley girl' and why would you say that? What do you know of CD2 you haven't lived here for more than 30 years? Where are you keeping the names of community leaders you claim support you? Why is all the money collected by you from out of CD2? Why no just call yourself the lobbyist you are?

I'm supporting Krekorian, so I don't have any questions for him...I know he would represent CD2's without regard for outside interests, as he already has done for more than 1/3 of CD2. He has been a business man, responsible for a school district and already trying to work out the mess in the state, which, by the way, was already a problem before he was elected.

Cops are furious and pissed their union endorsed Chris Essel again giving almost $100,000 of their dues without asking them. The Police Policital League wouldn't get involved in the Chief selection but play politics and gambling with cops money. they couldn't even get their cops a raise. This endorsement means nothing cause the majority of cops don't vote and live outside of LA. WHAT IDIOTS.
LAPPL endorses Chris Essel for Los Angeles City Council
The Los Angeles Police Protective League joined other public safety organizations in supporting Christine Essel for the Los Angeles City Council, District 2. Residents in Council District 2 will vote in a runoff election on December 8 to fill the city council seat left open when Wendy Greuel became city controller in July. If elected, Essel will serve through June 2011, after which she would be up for reelection.

I agree with Lisa Sarkin's comments.
Essel's answers are so empty. She smiles and talks alot, with absolutely no detail - and it isn't getting any better. (I went to the primary forums. Tamar mopped the floor with her.)
I am tired of Essel smiling and saying what a "wonderful this district is" and that is "why we chose to live here," whenever she doesn't have an answer. If you truly believe it is so wonderful, why haven't you lived here - until you had to to run for a $170,000/year job. (See that is where I see the businesswoman in her shine.) At least Krekorian knows what he is talking about.

So basically that's why his coverage is so vague and empty. Easier to attack Krekorian than admit you didn't do your work. Higby & Joe B we need someone who is really going to be our eyes and ears covering these events.

THAT'S PROBABLY PHIL'S DECEPTIVE WAY OF SOUNDING LIKE HE LIVES IN A GOOD COUNCIL DISTRICT.

BY "PAYING TAXES IN CD5" HE MEANS SALES TAX. WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT.

Phil, while you're co-opting tea party slogans, why don't you go full colonic and renounce your own socialist Univ. Wisconsin degree that the taxpayers subsidized?

There will be two Pauls in the horseshoe just like there are two Jans. Don't know why there will be that symmetry, but there will be. Just the way it is.

Essel will go work for her likeness Wendy or some mutual associate of theirs. Let's face it, they're both former studio executives but of the lowly kind, not the ones who make movies, but who suck up to people to make the important people look good and allow them to make money. They both have short, neat hair, look fine in suits but have no sense of how to dress which shows in their shabby casual clothing choices.

They both started out meaning well but sold their souls to Shallman and the Republican machine who exists to make things nice for the worst kind of developer and toxic polluters. Essel is nothing but their puppet and can't even speak without talking points, and even then she sounds forced. Writing she was proud of SB1818 but saying now she didn't mean it proves she's a mannequin for hire.

Did anyone notice at the forum last night, PK stuck to the issues and spoke about his platform and what his capabilities are, and never once did he speak negatively about Essel. He conducted himself in a gentlemanly manner.

CE on the otherhand, during her summation speech, used her time to stretch out her claws to attack PK and hold him personally responsible for the state of the State instead of speaking about her own "attributes" and what she will bring to CD2.

I never did get any exact examples of her accomplishments. Everything she said was very vague.

I've decided, I'm voting for PK, I respect him and believe he has more to offer our community. He has proven to be a better manager of his time and deciphers what is important before acting.

4:29 Tear down your opponent who's been out there in public, doing things, to distract from the fact that you've been busy making money and have record in public service until now suddenly, in your late 50's, we're supposed to believe that you are moved by the spirit.

ANYONE who's been in public service for 6-8 years or more will have somethng to pick on IF that's all you're going to look at. It's like rewarding the one who's done nothing positive at least in recent decades, for being more of a blank slate on which you can write lies, promises meant to be broken.

SAME Shallman gameplan as for his client NutMuch - except what he did to make money was often harmful to the public good while she wasn't as bad, unless you consider supporting SB1818 and such measures bad public policy.

I went to the forum last night and couldn't believe how Essel flubbed it several times. She made a reference to developers going to the planning department in Long Beach to get plan approvals to avoid local scrutiny here and that they shouldn't be allowed to decide planning issues for the Valley. Well, someone had better tell Essel, they don't. Long Beach has no say in L.A. Maybe she didn't study that part of her playbook well enough. It's San Pedro. And what would she know about what's good for the Valley since she hasn't lived here in decades. The last 6 months in an apartment in Studio City hardly counts (if she really lives there).

It's also obvious that Essel's relying on CD2 staff for her advise. Bad move. Remember, these are the same people who got slammed, along with Wendy, at a previous Forum (before the Special Election) for the lack of follow-through with the community. Dale Thrush in particular. People love to hate him and for good reason. Note to CD2 staff: start looking now. You've picked the wrong horse and shouldn't have followed your former boss like lemmings, or is Pied Piper a better analogy? Or better yet, Wendy and Peter Pan (the Mayor) and the lost boys (CD2 staff).

Paul is really running against Wendy. That's Wendy's call, and a stupid one. Wendy's lost a lot of capitol with many of her former constituents in CD2. Let's see how that rains on her future political ambition. Mayor? I don't think so. Stop the presses! I just figured it out, that's what Wendy's worried about. Paul is more of a threat to her ambition than Chris. Hmmm, Mayor Krekorian. Nice ring to it don't you think?

Is that Nutch's concern too? He's afraid Paul may be after his job?
Note to Nutch: you've also lost a lot of political capitol with some of your blunders as City Attorney so you may lose it anyway, but the most glaring blunder is your endorsement of Essel. 'splain yourself.

Note to Paul: keep up the good work of sticking to the issues, for doing it in a decent and respectful way, even with an opponent who lies and deceives. You'll get your reward on election day.

P.S. Note to Jennerjahn: Fuck off.

Dear High School Student:

I regret to tell you that you have somehow been misinformed.

Take a Civics class or something because there is no way that a council person can make it easier for you to get a job. By JUNE especially is even more laughable.

I don't know why you think Paul Krekorian would cost us a million dollars, so therefore I must dismiss your entire post as one written by an uninformed kid who has listened to his parents and their views or a talk radio host whose job it is to incite anger amongst the stupid.

Looks like they're succeeding.

Go Paul!
