If the "big 3" are evil
and the "little 7" are good,

does a "little 7" become evil when she/he gets elected?

Yes. If for some reason Mary Benson got elected I hope she's prepped for the day Higby, Joe B, Petra, Phil Gendergone and all the CD2 Looney Crazies through her under the bus.

Tamar chose public service? Or did UTLA PUMP millions into her LAUSD race? Did she get the endorsement for LAUSD from AV because it would bring in tons more money? Tamar, don't insult us.

Christine, that little maximum of $500 that you speak of. Remember, that is each reporting period. And say you get money from one bad developer or developer's attorney. Then what happens is each family member and other attorney in their office gives and you will know damn well who you are beholden to and stop pretending like you don't. You're not innocent.

Ok enough is enough with the CD2 candidate forums. Let's move on to what people are talking about and that's the LA Times story yesterday about Trutanich. People think he's a really hard hit piece on him and his arrogance. You read and be the judge. Even though the goons at PPL police union threw over $750,000 to get him elected there are tons of cops who Trutanich have really pissed off. Read the story.

I heard a lot about Mary Benson on this blog. I just watched the videos from Saturday. I don't see what all the hoopla was about? I still can't tell who to vote for, but I just can't see voting for Mary based on what I heard on Saturday.

Tamar seemed to cop an attitude against Mary Benson....although Benson didn't really say anything that dramatic. She just mentioned that Tamar gets paid with taxpayer dollars.

Sheftel was right about the "Big 3" leaving City jobs of responsibility to chase a different position.

Loved Zuma Doggs passion and his line about Tamar getting in the Mayors "getaway car". That's a keeper soundbite.

Essavi was the fairest, saying if the others had done their jobs well, they could have earned his vote. Very classy.

7:01 is right. That's a lead story in the front-page Sunday section on Trutanich, from a paper that's bent over backwards giving him the benefit of the doubt until there's just too much backlash to his ignorant arrogance, but this blog and Ron Kaye and Jill Stewart's Weekly try to bury it.

If that were about Jack Weiss of COURSE it would be a featured thread with a writeup of how horrible he was and lots of name calling, the slime you dumped on that guy for years is absurd, if he sneezed you'd find a way to twist it against him. Even most of the others except Zine would gt the Mayor Sam Trash Treatment

This again only shows how totally ludicrous it is for anyone to remotely think they get any info about local politics here.

I may be a retard but I think that Higby should nominate which of his own contributors are ass clowns of the month.

That way the rest of us could rate what we think of the caliber of the contributors.

I may be a retard, but I am not stupid. Mayor Sam, let us do this! Let the people (and retards) speak! This way you can have our unfettered opinion without censorship.

7:01 I agree. Very soon either Nuch is going to have to morph into an actual civil servant or even dimwitted scribes at the former fishwraps of record are going to realize that this is a career Republican from Long Beach with an awful lot of baggage.

If those fishwraps wanted to attack Antonio, they should have attacked Antonio directly, when he was running. They shouldn't have hung surrogate Weiss out to dry.

The Times especially doesn't either want or know how to solve problems, it just wants to make a bigger mess in the hope of attracting local attention. Too many hangers-on there, even now.

And now that the DN has hired as publisher the guy who presided over the steepest circ drop at the Times in over 100 years--well, call the morgue on print in this town. It's time for blogs to step up and do something ambitious.

11:01/ Joe M: Yes, the blogosphere needs to step up and do something that gets the attention even of those fishwraps and makes them realize they not only let down the citizens of LA but their own duties if they have any remote sense of professinalism left.

You've got the name and respect of all of them, even are linked as a blog of choice on Jill Stewart and I think the Slimes.

it's amazing the extent to which the fishwraps chose to ignore the baggage of Trutanich that not only didn't need digging, anyone who knew him volunteered it. Starting with the sports blog at USC whose Trojan football teammates he helped on behalf of Pete Carroll -- who was profiled in this Sunday's Slimes about how if he keeps on with his "win at all costs" attitude it could be his downfall finally. What little press Trutanich had was all very negative -- that "people's lawyer" line was one that some guy he hired to do PR came up with and the Slimes etc. bought it whole. Unbelievable what a hatchet job they did on Weiss meanwhile, even reporting unfounded criticisms from Trutanich campaign boosters as though it were fact, piling on the attack pieces day after day.

Meanwhile you know as well as anyone what Walter Moore and his running mate Berger stand for, and with Trutanich and Berger joined at the hip philosophically and in their vendettas and far more important than in being civil servants doing good. All those "plans" the Times idiot Opinion editors cite in their endorsement had never been backed up by any actual work on his part and in fact were directly counter to his real life efforts, so why would it be a surprise that they were nothing but clever words. Chick nailed him as saying and doing anything to get her or anyone's endorsements, and goes further to say that he wasn't just spouting emtpy words but outright lies.

This Reston article was extremely flattering to him relative to the reality, and went out of its way to find positive comments. The photos in the print edition and the headers were chosen to in fact hide the truth -- calling him direct and hard-charging totally misses his real character. Maybe it was to "make amends" for the high-five photo, which got his people furious and emailing and calling. Trutanich, Berger, Cooley and their campaign manager have been crying foul all over the place. You bet those guys with Zine and others have a Republican agenda and played the "Democrat machine" game to get the idiots at Slimes etc. to think they had to break it up and create chaos and rightwing vigilantes instead.

To the person who wants to stop reading about CD 2 candidates, you are one of the first to call them "clowncil" and bitch and moan about every move they make.

So read, watch videos, attend debates and then you won't have to complain later.

You are reading about Mary Benson because, as a long-time activist, she knows the district and many people who have been reading this blog since its inception, know her personally. But a lot of people don't debate well, especially when they aren't pros, so don't judge her on one debate. Go to all of them. Meet with the candidates. If you're not a CD 2 voter, and you have no interest, well you're bad if/when you do have an interest in getting all the CM's votes.

I think people like Mary because of her integrity. She is from the district and will hire people to help her and they won't be from the same pool that Essel, Galatzan or Krekorian will pull from.

Everybody forgets that this job is SUPPOSED to be a public servant position, and one that serves the people who elected them as opposed to who gave them the most campaign donations.

So I think CD 2 wants someone who doesn't have developer money behind them.

Some people don't debate well? That was very similar to a horseshoe situation where all the council speaks on the item. What makes you think she will perform any differently at the council meetings.

And Mary may have some supporters in the Sunland Tujunga area because she is from there. But SunlandT is so different from the rest of the city. I wonder how much she knows outside of her little specialized area of ST planning issues?

She'll be eaten alive in those chambers.

ALL THIS WASTED TALK ABOUT BIG 3 LITTLE 7 IS EXACTLY WHY THIS TOWN IS GOING TO HELL. YOU PROP PEOPLE UP WHILE YOU TEAR OTHERS DOWN HOW STUPID. FRONT RUNNERS BECOME FRONT RUNNERS BY MANIPULATING YOUR PERCEPTION OF THEM. WHERE IS THE FAIRNESS WHERE IS THE BALANCE. YOU'VE TAKEN THAT OUT OF THE EQUATION. YOU ARE WORKING ON ELECTING, IN PEOPLES MINDS THE VERY TYPES WHO WILL DO NOTHING TO REFORM THIS TOWN. DON'T FORGET YOUR ON THE LIST FOR LOSS OF FREEDOM.

It's not about being a professional speaker or not. It's about personality. Becoming professional doesn't spread any magic on you. Look at Ed Reyes. Mary is great. But she doesn't have the ability to manage and motivate a staff. She'd be great working for one of the other candidates though. And I hope they hire her.

She couldn't have said the same exact things that I said about her.
