Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Monday

Mayor Villaraigosa broached the issue of privatizing the Los Angeles Zoo and the idea is gaining traction.  The Daily News agrees it's something that should be looked at.  Ultimately a zoo is a theme park or at best an educational instutition.  Neither is the job of municipal government.  Therefore the zoo should be turned over to Disney or perhaps the World Wildlife Fun to run. The next step would be to send large animals to preserves and replace those exihibits with virtual ones that can just as easily educate as penning up animals where they don't belong and don't prosper.  Los Angeles could actually set the pace for the 21st century zoo.

Ron Kaye marks the one year anniversary of his termination as editor of the Los Angeles Daily News.  "I got no regrets," Kaye says as after 365 days in his new role of blogger and agent provacateur.

So much for President Barack Obama's claims to be a man of the people.  Like most Democrats and Republicans he's all about the connected.  His recent town hall meeting in Los Angeles was supposed to be open to the people, instead, as the Daily News reports, most of the tickets went to Democratic elected officials, their staffs and major party fat cats.  Spin that one Jim Alger!

Blogger Cindy Lu at Loteria Chicana made her first ever batch of frijoles olla. Response from her mother: “Wow. Ya te puedes casar.” Of course that means that Cindy's mom is satisfied Cindy is now ready to get married.  Moms are the same in any culture; can't we all just get along?

LA Weekly notes that L.A. Superior Court Judge Peter Lichtman has ordered a Catholic religious order to make hundreds of personnel files public. The judge's order is part of a $28 million settlement between alleged victims of clergy sexual abuse and the Franciscans. The lawsuit stems from allegations against Franciscan priests who are accused of sexually abusing dozens of boys and girls going back to the 1950s.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is actualy doing a photo op that doesn't have to do with nightclubs, turning off the lights or dancing with cartoon charactersThe Mayor will speak about the city budget at an appearance before several neighborhood councils and other community organizations Monday evening in West Los Angeles.

By the way does this conflict with this?

The City of Los Angeles spent nearly 40 years trying to make an airport work in Palmdale and could not do it.  So it makes sense to let a smaller, more efficient city take a shot at it. The City of Palmdale has voted to create an airport commission and department to manage and get Palmdale Regional Airport finally up and running.

Would someone actually run against Council Member Benard Parks as he perhaps seeks his third and final term in 2011? Possibly Assembly Speaker Karen Bass according to one blogger.

In the meantime Parks is pushing a city law, similar to a Los Angeles County measure, that would place civil penalties on the parents of under age graffiti criminals.  Good idea.

Blogger Flap, the ultra-right wing dentist, posted up an item that featured a Twitter tweet supposedly posted by Meghan McCain calling Rush Limbaugh fat.  I was about to call Ms. McCain to task for being a hypocrite as I had defended her when blowtard "commentator" Laura Ingraham could only challenge McCain's calls for a more big tent Republican party by referring to her weight.  However, the leading Republican sadist has now come out and admitted that the tweet is a hoax, under the guise of parody.  Good going Flap.  Anyone who has this man's fingers in their mouth needs to question their sanity.

Franklin Avenue reports bad news for both Walter Moore and Rick Dees.  Movin 93.9, which flipped from country to adult contemporary and brought Dees on board three years ago, is going Spanish language.  Oops.

I'm open to the idea of privatizing the Zoo but Disney?? Ye gods, not only would the large animals have to stand around in tiny pens but they would have to do it in costume and perform a song and dance routine every hour on the hour.

THIS IS NOT A JOKE:

After failing to stand up as a leader and making the tough decisions during his first term, after giving away raises and benefits to hundreds of thousands of city workers (in order to secure his March '09 re-election); NOW THAT HE HAS BEEN RE-ELECTED, and it has been announced that the city is facing a $7 Billion budget deficit thanks to LACERS (city employee retirement pension fund); on top of the other budget existing budget problems; Irresponsible, non-leader, softy-kiss-ass Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaragiosa today announced that he will be asking city workers to work for free (work additional "UNPAID" hours) to avoid having to fire workers.

SORRY DOUCHETONIO VIAGRAOSA...that ain't gonna cut it.

DO YOU THINK CITY WORKERS ARE GOING TO AGREE TO WORK FOR FREE? Is this the precident you are setting? Is this your solution? Are you actually as dumb as everyone who actually knows you says you are?

So what's the REAL plan to address the money you let your cronie investors lose in the stock market and in risky/shady real estate projects with your bankrupt buddies?

AT SOME POINT PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA AND THE FEDERAL GOVERMENT IS GOING TO HAVE TO STEP IN, THE WAY THEY HAD TO STEP IN WITH OTHER FAILING U.S. ASSETS LIKE THE AUTO AND BANKING INDUSTRY. After all, the city gets Federal money, and at some point they are not going to like the way their FEDERAL DOLLARS are being wasted and swindled.

I am at a city of L.A. library in Eagle Rock, right now. The clock says 5:55pm, even though it is only 4:55pm.

No one has set the clock back for daylight savings, yet. Maybe they'll just leave it until we turn em ahead again. My "Interpretation of Deming's 14 Points" will explain how the clock might be turned back one hour, once a year. But the mayor should just maintain the status quo, because it's working so well.

Meanwhile, the reason I logged on, is to issue this notification to the City of Los Angeles (the Mayor's office and all city councilmembers):

The number one issue that is about to run out of control, that you will be POWERLESS over, in the most annoying and frustrating way is "graffiti."

Not just on walls and billboards, but on windows and signs of retail shops, on the sidewalk...it's about to spin out of control.

And the thing is, it's not the "Jamiel's Law" kinda issues that drives politicians nuts...IT'S GONNA BE THE GRAFFITI!"

Mark my words, but not with a spray paint can.

New laws regarding spray cans and minors and having them on you and rewards and all that will be offered...but as someone who likes to think he has all the answers...

the Batcomputer comes up "bamboozled" on this one, cause the only answer given is "enough police to patrol all the streets at all times at 2, 3, 4, 5 in the morning. YOU CAN'T!

But it's all a by-product of too much density and a softy-kiss-ass-non-leader who uses the term "for all" instead of "citzens."

So you end up with a city full of drop outs selling and eating bacon wrapped sausage sandwiches off unsanitary, uncovered heat plates on the sidewalk while tagging the retail window.

Let GLAZA privatize the zoo, then privatize the animal shelters. Other cities have done the same by having private SPCAs take over their operations. If you got rid of the union staff, employees would do a better job for market level salaries. It's really the admin salaries that are too high.

Most importantly the Mayor wouldn't have to hear people complaining about the problems at the zoo or animal shelters. Animal people complain more than any other group.

Dear TRU (TRUjillo, not TRUtanich),

Although I may feel there is a little bit of an irrational mob mentality surrounding the city attorney's election, I am not ready to start approving the anti-nuch (true09) comments on behalf of Jack Weiss' campaign that someone just posted on my blog that sure did remind me of TRU, alright...TRUjillo! (It could have been someone other than Trujillo, but I had to play on the "TRU" riff. It could have been Ace Loser.)

I will never vote for Trutanich. He is the NRA and all kinds of polluters lawyer. I was trying to learn about this race and look at this website I found:

Gee Zuma that must be a big blow to Trujillo since he's counting on your blog to win the race for him. And Ace Smith must be spinning away day and night on your blog too worried sick that you may delete his posts. Sounds like what the Nuch mob would do and does do appealing to their base base. (I couldn't resist the easy riff either.)

Oye, oye, oye! The tales me is hearing regarding surrounding one run-off election, between a public servant and the public's selection.

Hopes are high for a peoples champ victory against political slimes, with help from endorsement like L.A. Times.

But the backers and endorsers must not have done enough vetting, cause their opponent just called Captain to make some big betting.

When you're talking about the stakes of this political fight, you better be ready for some "This Is Your Life."

And info will be released about some defending in court, and they feel most people will then pull support.

It does not give me pleasure to post news this abysmal. But it doesn't do any good to be caught in the basson seat without Pepto Bismol.

So what is the point, besides trying to be funny? Whatever Weiss raises, Nuch will need twice the money.

Translation: From what I just heard on the streets, as Jack Weiss needs to pull out the big guns (no NRA pun) to win this election, expect to see the some of the things the challenger had to say in court, while defending some pretty unsavory folks to come back to haunt the campaign in a way that was described to me as quite a parade rainer. I guess it will be pretty uncomfortable. It's the price you have to pay when you run for these types of positions.

The feeling is the challenger will need double whatever Weiss raises to secure the office.

If you would like further analysis, send a message in a bottle to Captain Breaker.

How can Nuch ever expect to win without the support of Loser Dogg?

I mean, this wreck of a human being commands thousands, if not millions of votes, simply ready to vote any way he recommends.

Nuch, get down on your hands and knees and pay homage to the vision in a black watch cap and dark glasses. This know-all, be-all is the key to your campaign victory.

He has turned back to the evil force (Weiss) purely because you have not paid homage to his graven image.

What can you be thinking, Nuch?

Don't Diss the Dogg.

"He has turned back to the evil force (Weiss)..."

Excuse me! When have I ever had my back turned TOWARD the evil force, in order to turn back? And what are you talking about, wacko?

You know, when you look at the roster of endorsements Nuch has, and the TV commercials he runs, and the LA Times endorsements, and all of the momentum, I thought Nuch would be fine without ZD at this point, since I'm not really in a position to extend myself into campaigning for people. So you don't have to be sarcastic, because I don't think my campaigning for the city attorney's race is needed.

I kinda focus on the stuff not being covered. If the day comes when I have the backing of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Assosication or a mulit-millionare benefactor, I'll try and do more for other candidates.

I would like to have the energy to help in the CD 5 election, where maybe a bunch of City TV 35 appearances and showing up all over the district COULD make more of a difference, than a city wide election. But again, the dogg is on a short leash.

Sorry you seem to be confused about the whole issue.

If Caruso endorsed Weiss, I cannot think of a better thing to boost the fortunes of Nuch. Caruso is a big real estate developer who produces plastic fake downtown squares. The Americana has a few tumbleweeds blowing through it. We need Real Planning and not Weiss/Caruso fake planning which gives developers whatever they want no matter how horrible for the community.

Hey ZD, I think the clock is suppose to be set forward, not back, for daylight savings.

I know, it could a bit confusing. Think of this: spring forward/fall back.

When I ran for Mayor, I came out in favor of the Zoo keeping Billy the elephant and finishing the Pachyderm Forest. The City Council eventually voted to do this, not because they wanted to.... but simply because it was cheaper to finish the project than to not finish it. As a Conservative, I still think the Zoo would be better off being privately held. I don't feel it is the job of the City to operate what is essentially a theme park.

Think about it for a minute. Could the government ever create and operate something as wonderful as Universal Studios or Disneyland?? The answer is no. Although the Zoo sells tickets and generates income, I have a sneaking suspicion that it actually loses money. It would be better off in private control.

And as far as what Jim Alger said... boy is he deluded! Obama is proving to be every bit the disaster the Conservatives feared. Offending the British. Apologizing to Arab countries. Apologizing to the World for American "arrogance". Bowing to the Saudi King.
Doing his best Neville Chamberlain imitation and encouraging dictators with his weakness.
Spending more money in 60 DAYS(!) than all the other Presidents combined.

Bush wasn't perfect and I wasn't a big fan...but he at least had the respect of other leaders. Dictators in many other countries feared Bush.

Obama is going to kill this country faster than cancer. And the Liberals know it.

Even Alger says "IF" this plan of Obamas works. That's a mighty big IF.....

Somehow I don't think Alger cares if fatboy returns his calls. Although it does make sense to call someone to verify a story before you run it, but that would be confusing Higby with an actual journalist.

Jim's point about Higby just bashing everyone for sport is a good one. Higby won't return Jim's calls because he has no desire to do anything other than use Jim's massive following for his own personal gain. Looking up Alger's rankings, he is 106 in the entire country and 61 nation wide on politics. Looks like he is doing pretty good for himself and Higby is trying to boost himself on his former friends popularity.

That is what is sad.
