Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

What is the City of Los Angeles doing with some of it's Federal stimulus money? Buying up houses, refurbising them and renting them or selling them.  Since when did the City of LA become a real estate developer and property management company? This is so not a function of government and yet another sign of Obama's creeping socialism.  The City of LA can't pave streets, run a zoo, keep water rates down or anything else succesful.  The better move would be to lower taxes and encourage investment so private individuals could buy homes and provide affordable housing.  As it is high taxes and strict regulations make only high value housing profitable.  Who's behind this? Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Congresswoman Maxine Water.  We all know how Maxine deals; so expect lots of fraud, waste and abuse here.

Speaking of Villaraigosa and shadiness (the two do go hand in hand; hope the Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom people are writing all this down) two major contributors to his 2005 Mayoral campaign have been ordered to pay a significant fine.  Sean Anderson and Richard Manhire, owners of Miami-based Travel Traders, agreed $108,000 in  fines as part of a settlement with the Los Angeles Ethics Commission where they admitted to laundering campaign contributions for the Mayor.  Travel Traders had been seeking major contracts to run concessions at LAX, had dinner with the Mayor and the next day the pair began making contributions to Villaraigosa.

Bitter Bernie continues his resentful hatred towards the LAPD, the agency he once led and was fired from, now wanting the City Council to decide when officers can blow the siren and speed in the pursuit of fighting crime.  Do we really want the Clowncil members making these decisions or the trained professionals who make up the LAPD?

LA Times reporters don't understand why they will be soon out of job.  The market is changing and if they don't change with it; there will be no more LA Times.  The reporters - standing on journalistic "principles" - are up in arms that the Times ran an ad on the front page for an NBC show. It was a creative effort at a time when both newspapers and advertisers have to be creative (sorry guys Macy's ad on the back page don't pay the bills anymore).  But hey it's better to be broke right?

Here's one where we have to give credit to Walter Moore.  All of a sudden now there's a ruckus about the Clowncil and Mayor's $1 million calligraphy budget.  Uh, Wacko pointed that out long ago, way before he got all hung up on sanctuary city Kentucy Fried Chickens.  Does it take a recession to finally illuminate fraud, waste and abuse? I guess so.

And finally someone at Curbed LA must have taken one of our April Fools' stories seriously.  No, Eric Garcetti has not announced he's running for Governor.  At least not yet.

Poor Bitter Bernies needs major mental tgerapy. even his clowncil morons gossip about his constant garping on LAPD. You are so right its shocking how these morons have the audacity to tell LAPD how to do their jobs. These assholes can't even do their own jobs and have this city in a major mess. Look at all the outlining cities and none of them are going through what we are. IDIOTS!!!!

Bravo Higby!! The City has no business trying to be the biggest landowner, property manager, theme park operator (ie- zoo), tenant-subsidizer, food distributor (welfare) etc. etc..... these are jobs for the PRIVATE sector, which responds faster and produces better results.

This is why the city is bankrupt.
And it is going to get worse.

The Socialists are in power now and very few people are willing to stand in their way.

They have no problem with punishing success, driving businesses out of state and crippling economic growth.

I despise all these things and want to remove the current elected officials from power. That is why I ran for Mayor.

Higby, you have inspired me to go unload on city council today...even though Friday is "dog and pony" day where they honor everyone who has even minimal ability or talents.

I read the change Parks is suggesting. It is standard practice in other Law Enforcement agencies. It will reduce response times. I think Bernie is right on this one. As a Los Angeles resident I support the change.

So you spent the past few months harping on every breath that Walter took, and now you're providing a link?

I thought you said he has no credility?

What does that say about YOUR credibility Phil?

And what are you running for next? President? I look forward to your 500th hit, which you'll get sometime before the year 2020, at which time your lack of hindsight should find you in the poorhouse.

Walter, I figured if I mentioned the item and didn't give you credit you'd be on here claiming it again.

Don't worry, next time they talk sphincter control I'll make sure both you AND Wendy Greuel get credit on that one.

7:26m You gotta be kidding!##$% These assholes on council have ruined our city and made a mess of budgets and keep spending millions. Now they want to tell the police how to do their job? Duhhhhh maybe if Bitter Bernie had half a brain he would have been appointed to a second term. All the surrounding city police chiefs will tell you Bernie ruined the LAPD with all his corrupt friends. Hellllooo he had dinner with the Rampart losers before they got busted. His daughter and granddaughter hung out with thugs and daughter was arrested in Vegas on possession of Coke. Bitter Bernie had his chance. The ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL SAID NO NO NO NO TO A SECOND TERM for police chief to him.

You idiot! The illegal campaign contributions story was known before the election and you chose to belittle Walter Moore and give time to Zuma. So you deserve what you get. Why are you whining now?

Who's the idiot Nancy? Higby was talking about the calligraphy story not Antonio's shady deals.

The Walter Moore supporters are the kind of folks who would eat potato salad that's been out in the sun for eight hours.

The LA Times is now officially CIRCLING THE DRAIN!!!

This is the beginning of the end for that once-glorious paper.

It was killed by far-left slanted journalism, rabid indifference to local government corruption, and an arrogant attitude.

R.I.P. General Otis, your beloved paper is about to join you.

3:38 I did not think much of Bernie when he was Chief and generally do not support the City Council interfering with the management of the police department. In this case the LAPD's restrictive Code 3 policy needs to change. How can anyone be against that! A good idea even if it comes from someone you don't like is still a good idea.

Antonio has been using Obama's name at meetings all over the city. Now, he's jumped shipped and backing the Republicans to raise taxes. is he as stupid as he looks???? YES.

....Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger picked up some major Los Angeles endorsements for a raft of ballot propositions designed to rescue state finances.

"One of the most important things on issues is to get local political leaders, law enforcement leaders and business leaders to support us," Schwarzenegger said at a news conference staged at the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Sheriff Lee Baca and Chamber President Gary Toebben announced their support for the six measures on the May 19 special election ballot

I intend to do so, but only after i go to confession on Sunday.

It's like a chicken voting for Col. Sanders.

My name is Levon Wrong posting as Captain Hack Swallow. Captain Hack is the opposite of Captain Jack, and the name Levon Wrong is opposite to Captain Jack's real name.

It's pretty obvious who Captain Jack is and it is pretty obvious when he posts anonymously, as well.

But I don't think he should be double dipping in the comment section.

And I am here to do something about. You'll know when the shoe drops. But I think it's safe to say Captain Jack has posted his last comment on this blog.

And I think the lesson he has learned is that you cannot be a two face. I hate two faces.

4:22 WHO is Capt Jack? It's not obvious to us alas and what the hell kind of name is Levon Wrong to be "opposite of?" Out him and send him huddling under the skirts of Mrs. Kefferstein for good.

7:47 a.m., you may be right about Bernie -- even the Times version of the spat today calls him out on often opposing whatever Bratton does and Bratton says something like "that's just Parks being Parks. Sometimes he seems to forget he's no longer the chief." Ka-boom.

BUT remember that Zine is right there with him, maybe egging him on -- he also opposes anything Bratton says and does, is trying to set himself up above him and is also egging on the head of the Police Protective League, Paul Weber, to publicly buck Bratton and push to have him elected.

So they can get one of their own in, Weber, Zine or maybe Bernie again.

More likely Weber or Zine want the job, Lord help us say a dozen Hail Mary's, and since Zine claims they are more in sync with the outlying cops' rightwing sympathies, and Zine's got nothing to lose being so old, he's got himself and Weber waging all-out war. It won't be pretty as it goes on.

What fantasy world are you living in?

Almost all Republican organizations have come out against the ballot propositions in May.

They are widely panned by official groups with a party charter.

Do you even know any Republicans, or are you just making stuff up?

I don't see what the big fuss is about when the LA Times put an "AD" on the front page.

IMO - They have been putting "Opinion" on the front page for decades and disguising it as journalism. At least they put a banner on it to identify it as an "AD" So - whats new here?
