"Right America" Premieres Tonight

Photobucket

Alexandra Pelosi, journalist, daughter of the U.S. House Speaker and filmmaker, has a provocative new documentary airing tonight on HBO: "Right America: Feeling Wronged -- Some Voices From the Campaign Trail."

Michael Leahy takes an unflattering view in his Washington Post review today ("This is less a documentary than a reason for a snarky laugh track.") while Gary Strauss offers less opinjon in USA Today ("And visiting campaign venues in the heartland and South, the younger Pelosi wasn't just spurned by McCain campaign workers. Occasionally, she was pilloried, and even spat on, by some diehard McCain supporters.") I haven't seen anything on Big Hollywood or the Huffington Post yet but Wilshire & Washington mentions it.

Pelosi seems to go out of her way to point out that her intent was a balanced look and not just to show extreme point of views--and that she in fact conducted hundreds of interviews. Below is an interview she recently did for a NYC radio station on the new film:

Nancy Pelosi’s socialist political views are exactly what have kept her elected in San Francisco, along with the flow of union campaign money. The staunch “union supporter” Pelosi has even received the Cesar Chavez Award from the United Farm Workers Union. But her $25 million Napa vineyards and winery, she and her husband own is a non-union shop.

The hypocrisy doesn't stop there. Pelosi has received more money from the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees union than any other member of Congress in recent election cycles.

The multi-millionaire investors own a large stake in an exclusive resort hotel in Wine Country, the Napa Valley Auberge Du Soleil Resort. It has more than 250 employees. But none of them are in a union, according to Peter Schweizer, author of "Do As I Say, (Not As I Do)Hypocrisy of Democrats" and a regular contributor to the New York Times.

Pelosi is also partners in a restaurant chain called Piatti, which has 900 employees. The chain is (you might have guessed) a non-union shop.

So are you suggesting the apple doesn't fall far from the tree or is this just a screed against Speaker Pelosi?

Btw, some folks in her district think she's too centrist. I thought that might amuse you.

Hey Ed - I read that book too; doesn't make the Pelosis look so good. I guess its sort of the same thing as Larry Craig being a secret gay.

Anyway, it would not surprise me at all that the folks in Marin County would made Madame Speaker too centrist.

I am sure you can find folks in the deeps of the 49th state who find Sarah Palin too centrist too!

Watched the show, sad commentary. One black man in the show said it best. "You ought to be ashamed of yourself" Coming all the way to Mississippi to hear a white man say ni'#$r, what people in LA or NYC don't say it. You must be a liberal.
There is such a bent towards the mid west from west/east coast as if we are intellectually superior. I have traveled across this great country and some of most ignorant people I have ever met are people living in California, and I am from California myself so I hate to say this.
