Part Time Nury

We noted Friday that former San Fernando Mayor and school board candidate Nury Martinez didn't receive the endorsement of the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley and appears not to be actively campaigning.

Nury was a no show this time at an Urban Education Partnership forum Friday morning in Pacoima sending instead husband and long time North Valley political operative Gerardo Guzman. Attendees heard Guzman tell them that Nury would only be a part-time LAUSD board member and keep her job at Pacoima Beautiful, a local non-profit that has been the recepient of city funds for "projects."

You may remember that Martinez used her role as administrator for the organization as the basis for her claim that she is an "educator" on her ballot listing.

All LAUSD Board Members are part-time. Everybody knows that. Or at least they should. They've been bashing every school board member forever. Doesn't Tamar still work for Rocky? Were they expected to survive on that huge $24K salary they've been getting forever until very, very, very recently?

Shameful. In this current economic and educational crisis no less. I've got an idea-- Nury can keep her full time job, raise her new baby, and just let someone else do the job.

You will see that only Tamar is part-time (and so effective!) It's a choice. 24k for part/48k for full. Yolie went FT recently saying it is, in fact, a full time job.

Who can doubt this should be a full-time gig? Or do you think the Mayor, Union, and top execs are doing such a fine job that the board only needs to check in now and then to rubber-stamp a construction project?

Do your homework.

I don't think that Martinez has any experience in education but has been a political hack for years. She's Alarcon's girl.

Louis Pugliesa is both a LAUSD schoolteacher a college professor who trains teachers. I'd rather have that than a hack.

How many times can Pugliese's girlfriend respond to herself before it sounds hokey?

I've more than done my homework. The LAUSD Board Members have been part time for EVER! Tamar was promised a $100K salary if she won, right? Yes. Then after the takeover, they only got their salaries doubled. Right? Tamar was LIVID and I know this for a fact so YOU do your homework. That is why she kept her day job. Go search the LAUSD board members salaries that are listed in the Daily News link and I bet you'll see proof. Don't tell ME to do your homework when you don't know what you're talking about.

Dude, chill.
Wrong again.

It was all part of Measure L, approved by the voters, that doubled the salary from 24k to 48k ONLY if the Board Member quits their day gig and ostensibly works full-time. Now YOU go check the DN link.

And FYI, genius, - Measure L was passed on the SAME primary ballot that Tamar was on. So it fixed the salary at 24/48k BEFORE she was elected two months later. Maybe she wasn't paying attention-who knows?

I'll tell you this, if anyone told me they alone had the power to quadruple an elected office salary just for me if I ran and won, I'd be having dinner with the Attorney General that night.

Now for tonight's homework- True or False...

Measure L's salary increase and provision for optional full-tme board membership was a compromise to a recommendation from the Presidents' Joint Commission on LAUSD Governance that Board Members be full-time and receive over $100k per year.

Extra credit- What election reform was co-mingled with the salary issue on Measure L?

Ready-Set----Go!

Right 3:05, they got their salaries doubled from $24,000/year to $50,000/year. No wonder some of them had to keep their day jobs.

Go Nury!

We don't need anymore Political Involvement with LAUSD. We need Board Members that are concerned with educating our kids.

They only seem to be discussing Building Schools and Facilities, What about the kids that are in the schools now? They are Failing. We need someone with Education Experience.

As someone that dedicates all of my spare time to helping students,
I recommend Louise Pugliese for LAUSD School Board.

So Nury didn't get the DPSFV endorsement-who cares? In the larger scheme of electioneering and voting, the endoresment is not relevant.
