Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Wednesday
More developments on the Jim Alger, DWP MOU and Northridge West Neighborhood Council front. Following both dust-ups between Alger and the members of the Council, as well as an email-blog dispute with DWP Memorandum of Understanding Oversight Committee Chairperson Soledad Garcia, Alger was denied the opportunity to serve as NWNC's representative to the MOU Committee. Alger told the Sister City "I was asked by the President to do it, but after just finishing rising against the re-appointment of the former President who had just resigned, didn’t get the votes it was 4 for 3 against and 3 abstentions with 6 required." Alger downplayed the Board's decision telling me "I didn’t seek to be appointed, I was asked."
The Westchester Parents blog issues a report card for Mayor Villaraigosa and gives him failing grades on everything from the City's fiscal condition to how he has handled traffic to the Mayor wasting water at his homes. The blog points out one key example of the Mayor's hypocritical lifestyle (in addition to the Mirthala thing) saying "While promoting public transit and urging the council and other departments to cut usage of their take-home cars - the Mayor is driven around in a 2005 GMC Yukon at an average rate of 73 miles per day."
I'm supporting City Attorney candidate NOEL Weiss because of his integrity, committment and knowledge but there's one thing (well there are others) I don't agree with him on - advertising pillars. You know those are the cool looking, European style cylindrical kiosks as seen in places like San Francisco, Noel is against them. I don't know Noel, I think they're perfectly approprirate for areas such as Hollywood, Downtown, the NoHo Arts District, etc.
Obviously to the consternation of the Daily Kos set former GOP Presidential candidate John McCain announced his campaign for re-election to his Senate seat. McCain said in a letter to supporters that be is running again because "The economic challenges currently confronting our nation are immense and unfortunately, the Democrats in Congress propose addressing these challenges through increased spending that wastes billions of taxpayers dollars and saddles our children and grandchildren with a staggering debt."
Bloggy bits:

- Santa Monica City Council wants to set aside beachfront apartments for the homeless

McCain's vote was instr GOOumental (along with some Okie from OKLA) in denying LA's film bus with much-needed tax write-off incentives as part of the recent round of mass bailouts/ incentives to institutions and industry.
Based on the fact that industry had an UNUSALLY GOOD BOX OFFICE QUARTER, although companies like even stalwart Disney are down 1/4 or more in stocks and revenues.
MC CAIN SUCKS, HE HATES CALIFORNIA AND THE SO-CALLED LIBERAL FILMMAKERS FOR NOT SUPPORTING HIM, SCREW MC CAIN AND THE REPUBLICANS.
Mc Cain and the REpublicans are screwing Cal, so why not?
Of course, the MORON ZDOGG is always against "fee waivers, fee waivers" to such iconic industries as film and music, and this moron is the darling of rightwingers like Jill Stewart/ Limbaugh/ etc. who LOVe to say "it's not just us."

That's poetic justice that Alger creates so much chaos at NWNC and then they send him packing. Certainly not one member of the MOU committee would welcome his involvement.

So for the umpteenth time, WHO IS MAYOR SAM SUPPORTING FOR MAYOR?
Or is this going to have to wait until the last day? You're willing to go on the record about some candidates, but why have you been mum about your endorsement for Mayor? It is not like you don't already know.

As a member of the MOU committee I would more than welcome his involvement. Jim has done nothing more than defend the process. There are those who don't think the rules apply to them, obviously 9:32am is one of them.

We didn't exactly "show Jim the door," in fact I believe the item will be reconsidered. The vote did not approve or disapprove, most of the board abstained from voting. I think a few feathers got ruffled because of what had just happened with George. To read anything further into what happened would be ill-informed conjecture, and inaccurate to boot.

Jim Alger is well supported by the NWNC; most of the board is quite grateful to Jim for his service.
There are a few minority of troublemakers that Jim won't kiss their ass so they hate him.
Jim is a fighter for the community.

I agree too - Jim's heart is all about the community. He cares about the little guy and will stand up to those who try to screw the public. We thank you Jim for all the great things you do.

Seems like some will never miss the chance to take a shot at Jim, even with what is obviously a non-story. Certainly there are more important things to talk about, like who pushed this so-called story to Mayor Sam and what is their agenda?

The Mayor's SUV is a hybrid. Westchester Parent forgot to mention that. That is a pretty important piece of the puzzle left out that should definitely be included.
