Local Islamic leaders are not pleased with Mayor Villaraigosa's unswerving support for Israel. Following rocket attacks by Israel on Hamas Villaraigosa supported that nations's"right and responsibility to defend itself." Hussam Ayloush, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations of California told the Los Angeles Times that Villaraigosa's "...role is not to be a cheerleader for one side . . . He ought to be on the side of justice and peace." Though Villaraigosa's positon supporting Israel is the correct one, Aylouhis correct that this is not the Mayor's role. His job is Mayor of Los Angeles, not Secretary of State. Barack Obama did not offer him that role. How about getting to work Tony? Your city is a shambles. Wendy Greuel is having a picnic! If you want to ask her what her position is on Measure B or anything else about how she - as longtime Villaraigosa insider - promises "reform" of the very City government she is a part of, come on by and have one of her free hot dogs.
An employee of the company that provides rail agency Metrolink with engineers and conductors alleges that management was aware that the engineer involved in a deadly crash in Chatsworth in September was using his cellphone to send text messages while operating trains, a violation of company policy. The unidentified employee reported this to management several times according to his attorney. Hmm. Looks like Mayor Sam prediction #18 could be the next to come true.
You can't get any more to the edge of Los Angeles than the Sagebrush Cantina. The venerable watering hole is just over the line in the City of Calabasas but that doesn't mean LA City Council Member Dennis Zine couldn't join with Calabasas in honoring longtime Sagebrush owner, the late Bob McCord in renaming El Canon Street for McCord and establishing a "square" in his honor on the LA side.
Looks like Britney Spears won't be joining Zach Behrens for cupcakes anytime soon. The pop princees scarfed way too much during the holidays and is going to get back on her regimen. A Spears friend said "Going home for Christmas with all that food was just too much to deny herself. She indulged herself for a few days but now she's had to promise to get it all off again fast."

I love this quote, "Local Muslim leaders worry that those strong ties, and his travels to Israel, have clouded Villaraigosa's perspective on the latest conflict and the plight of the Palestinians. They urged him to be just as active in the Muslim community."
ANTONIO'S MIND IS CLOUDED WITH STUPIDITY. I CALLED IT AND SAID DAYS AGO AS MAYOR HE SHOULDN'T BE TAKING SIDES. SHOWS HOW DESPERATE AND IGNORNANT HE REALLY IS.
The more I hear about Wendy running for this office, the more danger I see for us all if SHE is going to rein in the waste, fraud and abuse.
I was not too comfortable about Nick Patsouras at first, but see Wendy as a tool for TONY to continue his trek to final city destruction. Wendy has been thouroughly and increasingly suspect in her ability to separate herself from the COUNCIL's direction, keeping herself among the "unanimous" when votes come up.
Most CMs rubber-stamp proposals like the triple-your-trash-fees, turn-parking-meters-into-cash cows, and other constituent-gouging measures, then feign concern when the sh_t hit the fan and complaints roll in. BUT the other CMs are not running for CITY CONTROLLER, and I am tired of TONY VILLAR operatives in government working to subvert operations of their office.
I have to say, "Have your picnic, Wendy, but you don't get my vote."
Even if TONY doesn't come back for term 2, I still want to try to keep to a minimum all those who enabled his regime to make the city government operations so susceptible to corruption.

I liked Bob McCord. He had some rebel in him, but he turned the Cantina into a great place to eat and hang out. I miss the mechanical bull.
But before you get around to naming things after him, remember that he tried for years to get the city boundary adjusted so that he wouldn't be in the City. He felt it would be easier for him to enlarge and improve the Cantina if he were entirely within the County's jurisdiction.
In the LAT piece about the "Solar 8's" victory Mitchell Schwartz said the following:
"I'm not part of the insider crew at all," he said. "I know them, but I'm not part of them. I just think the solar thing is really good."
Who else says things like that? :)
09-0030 CD 9 b. MOTION (PERRY - REYES) relative to declaring the 51st Annual Grammy Awards on February 8, 2009 a Special Event (fees and costs absorbed by the City = $124,163).
For Tuesday’s LA City Council agenda. In a time of budget short falls do the Grammy's really need $124K donated to it from the City? I'm sure some economist somewhere will argue that the event generates far more than that in revenue for the City, but I can't imagine that the Grammy's couldn't sell a few more commercials on its broadcast and cover the cost itself. I, as a taxpayer, certainly don't feel like paying for it...
