BREAKING NEWS: Ding Dong! Linda Boyd is Out as County GOP Chair!
Stay tuned for more later but word is that Los Angeles County Republican Party Chairman has been ousted during a re-organizational meeting held Saturday at the Ronald Reagan Building in Downtown LA by Glen Forsch, a Burbank businessman and past candidate for the State Board of Equalization.
Boyd's removal as County Party Chairman was long overdue as both she and her husband Doug Boyd atttempted to rule the local Republican party as their personal fiefdom doing things like attempting to elect Democrats as Mayor and further marginalizing the party by organizing massive support for Yes on Proposition 8.
I don't know much about Forsch but from what I've read so far he actually seems committed to electing Republicans to office and not sitting around having tea with James Hahn. Perhaps he can move the party to focus clearly on economic issues, taxes and fighting government corruption so that it has a fighting chance in a liberal bastion like Los Angeles.
Time will tell. The good news however, to quote the Wizard of Oz, well I won't say it but you know what it is.

As a moderate Republican, I can truly say that I know Glenn to be an upright and honest guy. A bit more conservative than me, but a good guy nonetheless. Glenn was the guy who stood up and wanted to give the candidates in hard-to-win seats a break in allowing them them to make appointments to the state party with a lower percentage of the vote. I welcome Glenn to his new role and as a moderate Republican let me be the first to say "LINDA, WE TOLD YOU SO!!!!!"

It's about time that Linda Boyd's "Animal Farm" style of administration finally self-destructed.
She made all kinds of important promises that she never kept. Where was the money "that actually went to candidates" and "running a Republican in every partisan office in L.A. County"?
Money raised went to favored contractors such as telemarketers, direct mail houses and even to Linda herself as the LAGOP's Finance Director. Thankfully, the $5,000 a month salary was cut off.
Funding for candidates was almost nonexistent. During Linda's tenure, only about three candidates had received any LAGOP funding. Two Assembly nominees received pass-through contributions by the LA Lincoln Club in order to bypass campaign contribution limits.
There were three election cycles under Linda's tenure where there was NO GOP opposition to prominent Democrats such as then-Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez and several members of Congress. Between 2004 and 2007, there were no meetings of the critical Candidate Research and Development Committee to help find, recruit and train good Republicans to run for the Legislature and for Congress.
Perhaps the worst action was the sell-out of Linda and her board and the Lincoln Club board to support the re-election of liberal Democrat LA Mayor James K Hahn. Here was an opportunity for the LAGOP to make a difference in recruiting a good candidate for LA Mayor such as Steve Soboroff or Bill Simon. Instead, Linda and her husband, Lincoln Clubs treasurer Doug chased GOP candidate Walter Moore out of the party instead of offering to help him. When Doug and LAGOP Volunteer Coordinator Edie Blevins took paid consulting jobs with the Hahn re-election committee, then one knew that principles were out and profits were in. Doug took home $30,000 in consulting fees from the Hahn campaign. When a GOP fundraiser for Hahn at former DA Robert Philabosian's home was going to have low attendance, begging calls were put out to LAGOP members to show up for free just to fill up the event. True LAGOP members would never fall for something so stupid as shilling for Democrat Hahn.
Perhaps the lesson in all of this is not to elect people who operate from a position of resentment to any office. Linda claimed that she could do a better job than every county chairman since John C Fremont was the GOP's first presidential nominee in 1854. She was not successful in winning any new seats for GOP candidates. However, she did a great job in vilifying every previous county party officer for whatever problems she faced. It's easy to blame one's predecessors and it's hard to accept responsibility for one's own failings.
While Finance Chairman Frank Baxter raised a good amount of money, most all of it went into expensive overhead and some of it was wasted on waxing executive board members' automobiles, committee lunches and dinners at fancy restaurants, gasoline and personal cell phone bills. Even CAGOP Chairman Ron Nehring made money off of the LAGOP through $5,000 consulting fees to try to turn the LAGOP into a carbon copy of the San Diego GOP. It did not work.
An opportunity to raise even more money was wasted when Linda and company decided to "reward" certain donors with pricey hotel stays and other expenses for the January 20, 2005 Presidential Inauguration in Washington, DC.
GOP registration has slipped under Linda's tenure to 24%. At the current rate and within the next four years, Decline to State will surpass the GOP as the second largest "political party" in LA County.
The Forsch administration will have great challenges ahead in rebuilding the LAGOP for the 2010 election cycle. Hopefully, they will have better luck in positively motivating people through inclusion rather than exclusion.

Does it REALLY make any difference?
And what do you mean that she should have gone out and recruited someone like Steve Soboroff to run for mayor. Steve did run for mayor and lost.

It is the same Glen Forsch that owned Roscoe Hardware in Sun Valley for many years.
I am so glad that he made it to chair! Glen has always worked so hard to get everyone represented at LAGOP--even those with whom he strongly disagreed. I hope everyone on this blog will go out, spread the word, and raise money so these Boyd creatures never come back!
