Robyn Ritter Simon: No, I Don't Think So
One of the many in the race to succeed Wacko Jacko Weiss on the City Council is Robyn Ritter Simon. Simon says she is a former broadcast journalist and has been a Westside fixture for several years.
Ritter Simon has done well in capturing some of the early money and endorsements in the race and has been very effective so far in using online media to promote her campaign. The latest is this "interview" on her campaign.
The truth is that after eight years of the reign of terror of Jack Weiss, electing a tree stump would be an improvement. That being said after watching this interview, I say no to Simon. I don't see someone with a progressive vision for remaking the City; indeed she's committed to preserving the suburban, blue-hair Westside way of life. Ritter Simon doesn't say anything in this interview that doesn't sound like a living campaign brochure, a Stepford candidate right out of Central Casting.

It's fascinating that two people can have such differing views after watching the same interview. I have great interest in this race, having been a resident for 30 years, and surviving the Jack Weiss nightmare. After watching the interviews of three of the candidates, I found Simon to be the only one with promise. She appeared intelligent and insightful, and I felt relieved that we have a candidate that can meet the challenges of this communities problems. I highly suggest interested parties watch all the interviews.

What exactly do you mean by "progressive" Higby?

And do you work for Ritter-Simon?
I found the other videos and was most impressed by Koretz. Despite some of his ultra-liberal values, he HAS accomplished things at the local and state level.
Bleich is a Weiss protege and Ritter-Simon seems underwhelming.

The beauty of blogs that touch on local politics is that there is no traffic cop to slap a ticket on quasi-deep thinkers who use blogs as a forum to flog people that are willing to take risk by running for office and actually commit to the unglorious life of a LA City Council person. Ms. Simon has her finger on the pulse of some key issues in her district and the entire City (transit, crime control and education). She herself is educated, articulate and passionate about doing something positive with no real reward other than spending unbelievable hours away from her family and friends to serve the needs of the people. I do not see someone looking out for folks on the Westside. She wants to be part of a strong Council committed to help Los Angeles be a great city for all people...not just a chosen few. Robyn - you rock!

Please name five things that Paul Koretz has accomplished.

She didn't say a thing really. I like details. She calls that "school incident" her public service?
Wow. Then I just absolutely blow her away in my community service/volunteer work. She just doesn't seem to know that much about how the city operates. If she did, she would have mentioned it.
She has run before. Boring...

1- Ban on Midnight Specials
2- Divesting Billions from Darfur
3- Introduced the first Micro-stamping bill (his successor, Feuer, passed it)
4- Banned the smoking billboards on Sunset (a VERY controversial subject at the time)
5- Created the Public Safety Commission in WeHo
Name 5 things that Ritter-Simon has done

Unlike Koretz who's just looking for another job, Ritter Simon has genuine passion and interest in her community and the issues it faces- transit, crime control and especially education. Anyone familiar with the difference Beverlywood Moms has made at Canfield Elementary knows her dedication and sincerity. She is intelligent, compassionate, fair & tirelessly devoted to being the voice of the 5th district.

Simon is Miscikowski-lite which is like whip cream with multiple injections of C02.
Koretz is shady but he has run a city before.
All the rest of them:yawn!

Robyn Ritter Simon (real name "Rochelle")was asked to resign as president from the Century City Chamber of Commerce or face termination. So, she resigned, giving some lame excuse about landing a book deal (as reported in the Century City News)that never happened. She is best described by people who know her as a "limousine liberal," catering to the wealthy and thumbing her nose at the smaller mom-and-pop stores. Please, take it from a Century City insider, vote for experience and integrity, not a text-book narcissist.
