"Sons Of Anarchy"

There's a new show on FX (Wednesdays @10pm) that films a bulk of their scenes right here in my beloved Sunland-Tujunga. Full of colorful language, tons of guns, and one hell of an everything good/evil motorcycle gang, the "Sons Of Anarchy" has become quite a hit among the locals, and seems to be taking off with viewers around the country.
The show features Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and Katey Sagal (Married With Children), who btw, looks amazing and just buries the MWC typecast.

The new favorite sport up here is "Spot The Location", which involves identifying the familiar landmarks that show up each week. Each episode is filled with shots of local homes, stores, bars, wide open spaces, mountains, canyons, and winding roads.

Since very few City officials from downtown (the ones that make the decisions about our community's future) ever bother to make it up here to see the world they are messing with, I thought I'd make their lives a little simpler.

They can now do their research from the comfort of their couch.

"Sons Of Anarchy", FX Channel, Wednesday's at 10pm and online @

Let Freedom Ride, Baby!

Note to Kurt Sutter, Exec Producer & Creator of SOA: How about pitching in a few dineros to our Community Improvement Fund to demonstrate the SOA love of S-T? The fees you pay to the City of Los Angeles Inc., don't seem to make thier way up here, bro. They get the money, we get you! You know what I'm saying...

Sons of Anarchy is not showing a positive aspect of my community. It shows my corner of LA as some hick, ruthless, white supremecy motorcycle gang haven. It does no favors to the residents and how other citizens see our area.
I have watched a couple episodes and was upset at the constant evil portrayed. It has about as stomach turning violent scenes as "The God Father" except not nearly as good acting.
As much as the mafia and other gang films have muddled Italian American's reputations (I am a 2nd generation Italian American), SOA has the opportunity to muddle Sunland Tujunga. This is NOT the side or history of my community of which I want others to be aware, especially those in city hall.

Uh, the town in the show is Charming, California. It is not S-T.
It's a tv show...it's not real...please step away from the remote.

It is exactly how I want my town portrayed.......do you have any idea how much gang activity we would have here were it not for the threat of Motorcycle gangs?????? Let me tell you, the best neighbor in the world is Hells Angel! Who needs a guard dog?

I have no problem with this portrayal! Do you have any idea how much more gang activity we would have here were it not for the threat of motorcycle gangs? They are the only one bangers are afraid of.

lannymic18 what do you think the hells angels is? its a gang i am sure you love them as long as your not one of there victims your statement is idiotic.

Are you saying that we still have motorcycle gangs roaming our streets? Hmmm... I guess they are using trucks and SUVs these days???
And yes, of course the town's name is different, but the point is that the vid in the blog is drawing attention and trying to parallel Charming to Sunland-Tujunga. I don't want my town to have a bad name or even a bad connotation. It's about having a POSITIVE image that will attract people and businesses.
As far as it not being real- you got me there... tv (or any media)has not been shown to influence anyone, right?

Well, they filmed Terminator 3 up here and no one is accusing us of being cyborgs.

Come to think of it, they filmed almost all of "Memento" up here and I don't think we have a reputation as a town that has to tattoo on our bodies what we did 5 minutes ago just so we won't forget.

Andrew get the stick out of your butt and get over it. If anything the tv show should bring business to the town cuz people want to get a glimpse of the crew. It's tv. I would hope that since the show is rated for MATURE audiences the people should know better. Just get a life and find something better to complain about.

apparently andrew is not aware that the mongols clubhouse is in the area or that a scripted show in a completely different area of the state with a different city name isn't showing his community in any light.

If Sunland/Tujunga doesn't want SOA filmed there, come on over to Azusa/Glendora; we make a better Charming....lol. Better yet, film in Big Bear, perfect location.

Do any of you watch the show? It's supposed to take place in San Joaquin County in NOR*CAL.... and... IT'S FICTIONAL. It doesn't point out the REAL locations of the HA's and Mong's. If you whiny So*Cal b*tches don't FX to shoot in your town - GREAT! We'll welcome them with open arms here in where Charming is *supposed* to be - San Joaquin County, NOR*CAL. (C'mon, Kurt! Bring your show up north!) :)

Well, I remember going from North Hollywood (Now called Noho) out to S-T to go up into the Little Tujunga Canyon to go shooting, and I remember many times seeing MCs coming and going through there. I also remember ST as a nice quiet community and the place where "Gravity Hill" was. OOOHhhhhh scarry. lol

Sunland Tujunga loves bikers and loves movie shoots. So many movies Filmed here over the years including Rivers Edge and Corvette Summer. Tujunga is a perfect place for them to shoot SOA. In Los Angeles city limits, just over the hill from Hollywood. (Sorry NoCal/Big Bear not gonna happen)

Devils Henchmen were here when I grew up. Then Hells Angels (you still see them here occasionally if you know where to look)Mongols had a club house right on Foothill Blvd not too long ago.
If the permit money for shooting doesn't make it back into our community then shame on the Film Commission - not the people filming. Money still comes into our community when these people eat here, buy gasoline here, etc.

Only people from here know it is filmed here because in the show it looks like they are just outside Oakland (real home of HA) And yes SOA is based on HA and Mayans are based on Mongols - big deal.

Tujunga has always been biker friendly - I should know I ride a Harley myself so :p

SoA is about Tujunga for anyone that knows the history. Tujunga bikers were some of the first to transport meth in the crankcases of their bikes giving it the name "crank". They were widely accepted by the people and the sheriffs just as depicted by the show. They actually kept out most other elements to minimize exposure to the LAPD who had no jurisdiction at that time. I am much more accepting of them than the other gangs that shit in their own beds and ruin towns and cities. So get off your high horses and accept the history of where you live, and be glad that it is providing jobs for people that need them.

i know that SOA takes place in "Charming" and is filmed in S-T. But, the other towns mentioned in the show, Lodi, Stockton, Galt, Morada, just to name a few are very real towns. how do i know this? i live in Galt and i have all my life. you wouldnt believe how many times ive been asked if the show was really filmed here. the point im getting to is that while Andrew may feel that SOA makes his town look bad, i got news for you bro, no one knows where the show is filmed except the die hard fans and the people of S-T. lighten up man. im willing to bet that if people knew where the show was filmed it would draw alot of tourism and judging by the growing fan base, that may happen. its fiction dude, get over it.

Man I love that show! I am on the East Coast but was able to have a ride with Jax a week ago. I feel for you guys but I think most normal people know it is just a TV show and does not really depict what your town is truly like. Ever hear of a show called The Wire? It was out of Baltimore and several politicians and citizens were up in arms about that show..... only this time the show was so close to the truth of corrupt politicians and high murder count I guess the complainers got their feelings hurt. If you want money for your town petition LA not the show..... sounds like you may have own version of corrupt politicians happening...lol How far are you guys from that town I saw on the news where all the officials were making bank? That was ridiculous! Especially given the state of CA's finances at the moment. Good luck!

First of all, I LOVE THE SHOW. Second, you want to talk about bad publicity. Ever heard of Hemet, CA. Watch the NEWS much??? Maybe heard about assassination attempts on Hemet P.D. officers??? REAL SH*T is happening here and in the I.E. I WISH SOA was settling in my city. It would drive the SH*T outa here. My family would be safer if that scenario was true here. You're jaw would drop if I told you what I do for a living!!! AND, I ride a H.D. too. LONG LIVE SOA. I hope for many seasons to come.

Sincerely,

1 Bad Smoke Eater
