Ridley-Thomas's John Lewis Moment

John Lewis made the loony charge that John McCain and Sarah Palin were comparable to former Alabama racist Governor George Wallace (who by the way became a Republican and repudiated his segregationist past in later years) for raising questions about Barack Obama's ties to radical self-admitted terrorist Bill Ayers.

Now State Senator Mark Ridley-Thomas is having an equally looney moment in making the bizarre charge that his opponent for LA County Supervisor, Council Member Bernard Parks, is a longtime member of Wallace's American Independent Party and is promoting a website smearing Barack Obama.

The truth is, according to an article at California Faultline, in the 90s, when Parks was serving as police chief he changed his voter registration from Democratic to American Independent, making the very common mistake of assuming the AIP was the equivalent of registering as "decline to state" that is, not belonging to any party.  According to Parks' son, Bernard Parks, Jr., at the time that the elder Parks became Chief of the LAPD he did not feel it appropriate to be affialiated with any political party.  According to AIP officials themselves, they believe that as much as 1/3 of voters who register with them have made the same mistake as Parks.

At the same time Mark Slimy-Thomas is saying that Parks is a member of the AIP, he's running TV commercials claimng Bernard Parks is a Republican.

Last I checked Parks is a centrist Democrat who is voting for Barack Obama.

We've had our issues with Bitter Bernie.  That being said, he's still the better choice by far over Looney-Thomas.
