Fire Update From The Foothills!

The fires have disrupted just about everyone's life over the past couple of days.
Between evacuating residents, horses, critters of all persuasions, and still trying to make it to work on a few hours sleep, the community has had it's hands full. My roommate, a former resident of Kagel Canyon, has spent the last two days, escorting horses to safety, not an easy task when they are running panicked through the wash.

Yesterday there was a call out to find a shelter for six goats, and when communications got messed up, the owner of the goats wound up loading them all into her car!
The car is now very chewed up!

I currently have a refugee of Kagel Canyon staying at my house, and I've never even met her before (she spent last night sleeping in her Mazda Miata). But that's what people do in times like this, strangers become friends, and helping hands are extended. I'm sure she would do the same if the situation was reversed.

Even in Los Angeles, we are all neighbors. Maybe it takes an event like this to remind us of that. Hopefully, the satisfaction of that realization will last for quite some time.

Joe - thanks for your leadership on this issue. I know you are doing a lot that you didn't post about here.

I too have Kagel Canyon refugees (four of them plus a cat) at my house.

I am so glad to be able to do this for them. Everyone, who is able, should reach out to these people.

I guess the Mayor's Tiger Teams are looking elsewhere for people wasting water. They can't blame the LAFD for "wasting" water on the wildfires... or can they?

I'm around a mile from one fire, on stand by for evacuation news.
Several people called to offer their help and home.

Many of these folks and I have not been in touch for quite some time. It's nothing personal; I guess we just get busy with our lives. It was so comforting to know that I could call upon them if need be.

I feel so blessed to know there is a community out there that can rise to an occasion and demonstrate that LA still has a heart.

Thanks for the uplifting post Joe.
